I feel weird for being probably the only person that felt a little let down when watching that scene. Don't get me wrong, flying away with a mech is pretty cool, but what I always loved the most about Xenoblade was that even when looking at screenshots I immediately got the urge to explore the world. In this scene, however, the ground looks pretty empty and boring. :S I hope that you'll still have a lot of interesting places to explore and that it won't end up in a step-into-a-mech-and-ride-to-the-next-big-monster procedure.
Really, my biggest wish for a Xenoblade successor was that they make exploration more relevant. The most annoying part of XB to me was that the game punished you for exploring its fields before you got certain quests. You found this giant boss monster? Well, if you defeat it now you'll have to wait an eternity for it to respawn once you got the quest to kill it. You've found the entrance to some ruins? Too bad you won't be able to enter it without some random NPC giving you the keys to it.
This is also why the big monsters shown in the trailer make feel skeptic. If you put too many huge monsters into the game, that special "holy fuck, what is this huge thing" feeling you get when you discover a boss won't be the same anymore.
For me, the "wow factor" came from the possibility that everything I saw was reachable without a loading screen. The ground seemed a little boring as well, but after poring over the trailer so many times, I can't wait to explore it.
On the contrary, I felt like Xenoblade handled exploration very well. You got Experience Points just for discovering Landmarks and Secret Locations. There were locations I hadn't found until my second play through the game.
I never had to wait long for an enemy to respawn at all. I'm not sure where the problem was there. The ruins only occurred once or twice in the game, if I recall. I loved going into Gaur Plains for the first time at maybe Level 14 and simply finding a Level 80 beast roaming the fields. It's empowering when you return with the skills to take it.
xenoblade looks incredible even if its 480p if thats what you are asking.
also why do graphics matter that much anyways? its the open world style gameplay that made xenoblade amazing not the graphics
Eh, I played Xenoblade one an HD television twice with absolutely no problem. People always complained about how Wii games looked terribly on an HD screen, but I was never bothered by it for years. I frequently visited the Dolphin thread, and while the screens looked great, I was never extremely impressed by it. They had comparison shots in a few instances, but I never recalled seeing the "Before" quality on my television.
Well, just a few days ago, I decided to fire up Dolphin and plug my computer to my television. I also booted up the game on my Wii, switched between inputs, and was absolutely floored. The difference is like night and day, and while I can easily go back to playing Xenoblade as intended, I will prefer HD visuals every time. It just looks better, and there's really no reason to
not want it to look like that.
My biggest hope for X is that the overall tone is more vibrant. It looks a bit washed out.
