Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

So I have played MH3GHD for about 25 hours. I once tried to get into MonHan with MH2 on PS2 a couple of years ago, but quickly sold it again because it was an extreme grind right from the beginning, like doing the same mission 10 times to get used to the weapons and once that is done you do the first missions but have to do those several times over to unlock new ones.

MH3GHD does that a lot better, the sense of advancement is quite nice and I have just defeated Lagiakurusu and went on to to the next emergency quest against Doboruberuku.
And this quest was HARD! It actually shows how frustrating MH can be at times, so once the western release is out I fully expect the following posts by MH-beginners:

- Why does it take so long to take a damn potion? How often will this thing run me over while I have my arms high up in the air even though I went to the other end of the area? RAGE!!!
- Why can't I cancel my input before the action occurs? Like the second big swing of the great sword???
- Cats! Those fucking cats!!!
- Why does this damn paint ball wear off just before the monster flys/digs away???
- Why doesn't the L button automatically turn my character as well, instead of just the camera?
- My food-buff disappears after I get KOed once?? WHY???
- Why is there a time limit??? Not dying is hard enough so I don't need a time out when I have this thing sweating and breathing in front of me...

That being said, this is a huge-ass game. I also got the official guide, which is a danger to small kids and animals because it is a HUGE BRICK of 1200 pages.

Do you play online at all? johntv, spr0sk and a bunch of us are all playing online from the time to time, feel free to add me (I'm HR40 right now but I don't mind helping you level up), NNID is itsumobasho

I keep hearing round abouts that 3G was hit with the nerf hammer pretty decently over 3, is this true? I'm getting a little agitated with the series getting easier and easier and easier, I know they have to hit a mass market but I still kind of miss the ol' days of yore in MH1 when items and gathering sessions and legitimate planning was actually a part of the core gameplay.

It's harder than portable 3rd. It's got g rank over Tri.

What do you mean recommendations?

And as for your question, the 3DS version is actually the original version of the game, the Wii U version being a port/upscale. The 3DS version itself is really good, it just doesn't have online multiplayer (it does have local wireless and the ability to cross play with the Wii U though). You can also transfer your character back and forth from this version to the Wii U version.

In short, it's pretty rad. It's a great entry point for newcomers too since the gameplay has been polished from previous gens.

Does it have any performance issues? Framerate drops?

Thanks by the way, that's what I wanted to know.

Hn, I should get started on the OT for this.

Any subtitle suggestions?

I would so totally get that... if it were for a 3DSXL.

Glad to see Capcom doing this. I know it's a fairly insignificant thing really (a snap-on case for a handheld unit) but at least it's something.
There will be one for the xl according to the site

Question I have:

Say a friend brings his 3DS version over to play with me on my Wii U, effectively being 2 people connected locally to my Wii U (1 on 3DS and 1 on Wii U).

Can the two of us play online with my other (third) friend on his Wii U?

Fixed that for you.

I don't think you can.

I have a Q. If you do local play with the 3DS version, but the 3DS player doesn't actually join your quests, do you esentially have online play without having to use the servers? So in X years, even if the official servers shut down, you can always do those online only quests.

I don't understand how companies like capcom can afford to keep a series like monster hunter exclusive to one company... If it would be released on ps3 and 360, these games would most likely sell another 1-2 million games.

What kind of deals do they have with Nintendo?? What do Capcom get out of it?

The PS2 has two MH Games.
The PC has a MH Game. (Getting an expansion update in April)
The X360 has a MH Game. (Getting an expansion update in April)
The PSP has several MH Games, and the best selling ones.
The PS3 has a MH Game.
The Wii has an MH Game.
The Wii U has an MH Game.
The 3DS has 2 MH Games.

It's kind of weird how MH is exclusive but not at all at the same time :-/

EDIT: Oh yeah, forogt.

Is the max players for a lobby 8 this time? I don't want randoms taking up spots like the Wii one. There's no Wii Speak anymore so they can put 8 player lobbies again right?

4 ;_;

Maybe one day, one magical day, they will patch it to 8 players. BTW, there is voice chat in the game, but I doubt it will bog down the lobbies to only support 4 players like Wii Speak did for the Wii.

The game is just over a month away, has there been any special additions announced at all? Or a pack in like with MHTri?

In terms of additions it has USB keyboard support and voice chat, which the Japanese version didn't have. No word yet on Miiverse support.
