VGLeaks Durango specs: x64 8-core CPU @1.6GHz, 8GB DDR3 + 32MB ESRAM, 50GB 6x BD...

I would hope for more information on Durango. Orbis is not hitting final till this summer. Durango on the other hand is rumored to be finished, so whatever is going in, is going to be ready to dissect.

How close do you reckon is the January build to the final spec?

How about some fucking game leaks.
Spec leaks inherently have a lot less risk to the leakers because so many more people are privy to the info, especially with both platforms' devkits being in many developers hands. Leaks about game will make it really easy for ninjas to pinpoint where it originated.

Not sure if I want to hear more about the games. As exciting as it would be it would also kind of take away from the reveal. Maybe something vague like x dev is working a game in the y genre would be ok

I would actually rather hear more about the hardware/special sauces/controllers/features etc than games

Bull. If MS knew that they were going to put screens on controllers, smart glass won't have been such a big deal last E3.

Smart Glass could have been a more viable solution. It had been in the pipeline since before the Wii U in any case, what with the WP7 + Kinect Sports connectivity.

Are we really supposed to believe another Perfect Dark is in the works?

It's a series Microsoft hasn't had any push for.

They need another FPS in rotation and PD already has a following. Rare just need to make another good one.

I really hope they dust off the Japanese RPG IPs they invested money in next-gen.

But Perfect Dark is a strong brand with a devoted following. If Rare can deliver a new Perfect Dark on par with the first, I can see it being a system seller. I can say this with certainty because it would compel me to buy an Xbox for it. Perfect Dark is my all-time pound-for-pound favorite shooter. To replicate the magnificence of the original will be quite the feat, but if Rare pulls it off, I'm sold and I'm sure many others are too.

It's really not a strong brand. There's only been two games released in the series, each one being many years apart.

There's a lot of wishful thinking with Rare developing AAA core games again. I just don't see it as being practical. Microsoft radically changed that studio.

At this point more people own tablets than 360s or PS3, I think.

Things like localized rumble in sticks, triggers, buttons, and the handholds of the controller are a) battery murderers, and b) expensive. Add to that a screen? There's no way it's happening. They're not going to sell 90 dollar controllers.

Strong as in it resonates with a lot of fans of the original.

Is it wishful thinking? Of course, I can't deny that Rare of 2013 is not the same Rare from the N64 era. They have a lot to prove. Perfect Dark would be the perfect game to stage a comeback with.

Yeah I completely agree. Even the rumors about the Sony controller having a screen seem ridiculous. The only way I could see Sony do it is if they are taking the Vita's remote play to some other level and trying to offer a off-screen system but even then they would have to adapt the controls and that doesn't seem like something devs are going to jump into.

I don't know if it's been posted, but in the most recent Windows Weekly podcast, Paul Thurrott says that the new Xbox is definitely going to be announced before E3.

The conversation from the podcast: -

Leo: You do say this is gonna be - somebody...I won't name names - but somebody says in the show notes you sent me, this is going to be a huge year for Xbox, and you'll hear something before June. Before E3.

Paul: Yeah, I can't say anything, but, beyond that, other than that the Microsoft guys had posted a countdown clock for E3, and so a lot of people think that E3 will be the big.....

Leo: Larry Hyrb did, right....

Paul: Yeah, that's not it.

It starts around the 80 minute mark if you want to check it out. When I read back the conversation I've typed out, it does seem a bit vague, but when you actually watch/listen to it, he's definitely saying that it's going to be announced before E3.

The above conversation directly followed a conversation about rumours being posted up in the media without checking the facts and they specifically talk about the false rumours circulated on Pocket-Lint and other sites about the next Xbox, so I don't think he would have immediately followed that with this information if it wasn't from a sound source.

Ya by the time they add everything in the damn things would be more expensive than the systems themselves.

I just listen to the clip and they sort seemed mystified why Microsoft is still in the console business (comparing Xbox to iPhones). Paul called it the "black hole".

well it has been in a sense. billions dollars put into the xbox brand man.

that's the power of microsoft though haha. they just right off billions of dollars lost.

but, to be fair, a large amount of money is made from games and in Microsoft's case, also xbox live.

Sure, but if the rumours are true, and yields were low, wouldn't you consider dropping a CU, or some of the edram? The jaguar cores are relatively tiny compared to everything else, seems odd to focus on those as a yield improving exercise

Absolutely. If they have yield problems I have doubts as to whether they are going to be in the CPU cores or in other much larger parts of the chip.

On that basis I imagine both will have 8 fully functioning cores, as it will be other parts of the chip causing the problems. This is just my speculation.

I don't know whether we'll get a new PD soon (we'll definitely get it eventually, it's too well known a name to be completely abandoned), but saying they hadn't had any push for it is another one of your puzzling statements. It was at the forefront when they bought Rare, they launched their last console with it, they released an updated remake of the first game (which received a significant push for an XBLA title), and they let Rare experiment with a sequel through several iterations, none of which were judged sufficiently inspired to be elaborated into a full-blown product.

it's time for a reboot. zero suffered from being ported from the gamecube to xbox to 360.

series has great potential but only if they either reboot the series or do a direct follow up to perfect dark. none of this prequel garbage.

Has any of the insiders here actually seen any games in action? Cant they just say "yes they look awesome" vs "they kid of look the same but higher res"? I dont see how thats breaking NDA... :)

I think it's safe to say that games will look the same, but fidelity will be higher. Watch Dogs, 1313 etc.
