Awesome drawing! Have there been any other Xeno sketches on Miiverse?

We just don't know for sure yet. I also have a feeling that we'll find out soon though.

"Monolith Soft is developing a game for Wii U, as well. Their title was not revealed during Nintendo Direct, but Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said Tetsuya Takahashi and the Xenoblade team are creating the game. This will be a new title not tied to an existing series."

Not Shulk.

I have a feeling that this game, along with Retro's offering, will be given a massive marketing push in the UK/US.

I mean, we all proved them wrong with Xenoblade. They know they have a series that's universally acclaimed which sold extremely well (was no.5 at release in the charts in the UK. Compare that to now when not a single Wii U game has been in the top FOURTY chart so far this year).

Nintendo know they are lacking the big games, the ones which can be called killer apps. Apart from the typical Mario and Zelda. X is really all they have right now and they need it to be a hit.

Anyone agree?

This is the quote I was looking for. Thanks man!

What is the source of that quote? Siliconera doesn't seem to cite anyone.

Nintendo is certainly targeting key markets with these announcements. X is certainly going to have a larger presence than Xenoblade ever did, and I think you are right to assume it will have a larger marketing push - in that it will actually be talked about and have a commercial. I hope it rekindles a japanese imaginary that goes beyond "JAps are BAaad at making mai Gamez"

I'm interested to see how well it does. Let us hope it is a phenomenal game.

So, what's the consensus here on the red X at the end of the trailer?

1. It's the title. X.

2. It is related to Xenoblade, and fits with the Xenoblade typeface. Xenoblade 2.

3. None of the above. Title will be Xeno????. Unrelated to blade. Spiritual sequel.

4. Other possibility (you decide)

Lets take bets and see who's right when its revealed! I say its gonna be option 2.

Code name/placeholder title

Sorry, not buying it. Showing that face at the end of the trailer, is clearly meant to evoke some kind of (emotional) reaction with the viewer (us). Which makes no sense if the character is new and unknown, because who cares for a character he doesn't know? It clearly insinuates it is Shulk, and even if it turns out to be not Shulk, that means it is related to Xenoblade. Look at the battle system. At the very least this ties into the Xenoblade universe. Possibly Shulk ends up not being your game character (the guy from the trailer in the gameplay footage is clearly NOT Shulk). Maybe an entire new roster of characters will be introduced, maybe they need to bail out Shulk, maybe Shulk is the bad guy, who knows, but both the battle system and the game world indicate this is tied to Xenoblade in one way or another, which makes the only logical conclusion that the face at the end IS Shulk, or at the very least one of his offspring.

Agreed. It's, at worst, as detached from Xenoblade as Prometheus was to Alien.

It doesn't need to be a new IP to build on Xenoblade without being Xenoblade 2. Just look at Final Fantasy. All sorts of stories with often similar combat systems, the same types of enemies, spells, and so on. These guys can use Xeno, sometimes for similar others less similar games. Though I'm not saying they're doing that, it could well be a sequel, with or without the 2.

but both the battle system and the game world indicate this is tied to Xenoblade in one way or another

I don't really agree with this. Building on Xenoblade's battle system doesn't mean the game has to be connected to Xenoblade somehow. Why reinvent the wheel when there are plenty of places you can just improve it.

Same goes for the environment designs. That was one thing that was clearly and widely lauded, so it makes sense for them to work off that in their next game.

The whole point in this trailer was to get people interested in the game, and what better way to get people who liked Xenoblade interested than show that game's influence. The Shulk-like figure is really the only thing that seems to connect the two, but it's been brought up plenty of times that alone isn't enough to say "okay, it's a Xenoblade sequel!"

There's a lot more that suggests it could be a Xenoblade sequel. Admittedly, none of its concrete, but it wouldn't be a far-fetched theory even without the Shulk-like figure.

Any of those things on its own may not be enough to tie this to Xenoblade, but adding them up, it certainly does, especially in combination with the dramatic showing of "Shulks" face. Otherwise it would be the same as saying that the next internally developed Nintendo adventure game directed by Aonuma, with a main character dressed in green, in a fantasy environment, playing like Zelda, has nothing to do with Zelda.

I don't really think that's quite the same thing, especially when the developer is even saying it's not related to a previous game/series, and has also mentioned that they are pulling not only from Xenoblade but the other Xeno games and Baten Kaitos.

I'd rather wait until we have more information before writing things off and calling the developers liars. We still have people who think this is going to be a MMO or Monster Hunter clone because it only showed gameplay, this teaser is clearly not indicative of the entire game.

I also made a Xenoblade drawing. ^^

I just realised, that the gaming community can push games like this with ease now. :D

Tell everyone at NeoGAF to post "Buy X" or something like that on a certain day and nearly everyone in the Miiverse (millions of people) should see this. ^^

Just noticed it, because some "Wind Waker HD" - drawings are the top-drawing in the Nintendo Land community, which is worldwide. :)

I'm sure this can create a nice boost in sales.

Right, because a vague answer has never been wrongfully interpreted, or a Japanese comment has never been translated faulty. Or a combination of the two. It really doesn't even matter what they said in that comment. Showing thàt face at the end of the trailer is clearly meant to make us believe it's Shulk, even if it isn't him. And either way, it indicates it has ties with Xenoblade. You don't introduce a new IP by trolling your fanbase into thinking it's an other game.

Add to that the same battle system, the same open world, same-ish large monsters... By the same studio, the same director, as the first console game after the game that it shares all these things with. I could understand the sceptisism if this were a decade long forgotten IP. But this is their previously released, and critically acclaimed game. Edit: not to forget, it has an avid fanbase while the commercial potential of the first game was clearly underestimated and left uninvested.

And the rest of your XB spoilers.

Shulk wasn't even holding Fiora's hand in the end on the beach. Now they have a kid? You should be a fan fiction writer.

The colour of Fiora's eyes is a spoiler?

Also, I never said that the blonde guy at the end of the trailer was their kid, no idea where you got that from. And no, I probably wouldn't be very good at it, but thanks all the same :)

I know it's too soon, but I think we know how the OT must be titled

I dunno, I can see reasons they'd want to distance this game from the original (IF it's a sequel) when it comes to marketing. The first game didn't exactly set the world on fire when it came to sales and Xenoblade's ending truly does
completely end the game's conflict, effectively creating an entirely new world/universe
.

That said, I think it's Shulk. Every shot in that trailer was chosen to show a vista, combat, a game mechanic or a monster. Why end it with a 'reveal' of a face (the only human/homs face you see in the trailer) which happens to look exactly like the protagonist of their last game?

That wasn't really a vague comment though. Iwata called it an "all new game," in a way that would be translated as something unrelated to previous games, unless multiple people interpreted that wrong. That came up during that ND when the comment was made, since some people had made the interpretation that Iwata just meant it wasn't a remake, and others chimed in and made the correction it should be that it's not related to a previous game. I don't know Japanese, so maybe nobody has any idea what they're talking about.

I'm not trying to argue that it's absolutely, 100% not related to Xenoblade in any way whatsoever, but I don't think what we see in that trailer is enough to say it's obviously a sequel. And I'm more inclined to trust the developers/Nintendo than I am fan speculation on the Internet, because I don't think they would troll people and say it's not a sequel when it actually is. But crazier things have happened.

Xenoblade, or Monado: Beginning of the World, itself was a new title not tied to an existing series at first. But then they eventually made it part of the "Xeno franchise". And even then it's a matter of opinion whether it can be considered as tied to it or not, since it's a "franchise" with mostly no story connections, like Final Fantasy.

So this new game could be anything. That quote isn't absolute.

Doing a google search, i can not come up with an exact source for that quote. The news was posted multiple times on september 13th 2012, but always copy/pasted in its entirety.

And who exactly made the translation? Seems the original quote was already ambiguous to begin with. So i don't see how you can say the comment wasn't vague, when you go on stating there was confusion.

There was a Nintendo Direct that day, and Iwata made that comment. Siliconera seems to have been the one to write that specific comment that has been quoted, but there was also some brief discussion here on GAF about it.

Can't seem to find that though, but I distinctly remember someone thinking Iwata saying "new game" referred to "not a remake" and not "is a new IP." Edit: All I've found is StreetsAhead mentioning Siliconera was wrong (which wouldn't be surprising), so maybe I have it backwards.

And whether or not is the case it also depends on whether people consider Xeno- to be an IP or multiple IPs. Because this game will almost certainly be Xenosomething even if it is entirely unrelated to Xenoblade.

I think the guy is clearly Shulk, or at least related to him.
They showed his face for a reason, but they didn't bother showing the main character seen through out most of the trailer (who isn't Shulk. Blonde hair, especially Shulk's which is bordering on white, doesn't look that black in any lighting, especially broad daylight, even more so when there's a another blonde character standing next to him in a few scenes)? It was obviously supposed to be impactful and trigger something for the viewer.

So, turns out my point wasn't that farfetched after all.

I would consider Xenoblade as much a different IP from Xenosaga as Baten Kaitos is, so yes. The question is, is it step sideways (spin-off or other) from Xenoblade or a step forward, and would you consider the former a part of that same IP? Regardless of the name.

Exactly, the point i've been trying to make.

Bringing up Xenoblade's VA again, I just found this said over at GameFaqs in a topic about Xenoblade's VA.

"No, that's not the case at all. British accents are excellent, but many of Xenoblade's voices sound very forced. While I did think Dunban, Reyn's, and Riki's actors definitely got the job done Shulk, Sharla, Fiora, and Alvis's voices aren't very good IMO. Melia is just an annoying character in general, so I can't tell if its her voice or just her.

And its also clear why. If you look at the game's voice cast, its a whole bunch of inexperience nobodies. And all that inexperience really shows."

Could not disagree more. That comment frustrates on so many levels. I really do not understand how someone could say Shulk and Alvis's VA's sound forced, Blake Ritson is damn fine actor here in the UK and Shulk's Adam Howden has just voiced Tin Tin in his recent film and also voiced Anders from DA I & II so the 'inexperienced nobodies' is a bunch of bullshit. Oh well.

They were wrong. If I recall correctly, he said 完全新作 which is "brand new game", not brand new franchise or IP. Pokemon Black and White were described as 完全新作 numerous times during pre-release, for example.

does red blood matter to you guys?

I was watching the video again I've seen blue and purple blood but none of the animals it comes from look like they have blue or purple blood from look at the skins they have... I know it may be silly but going through so much trouble for a lower Rating maybe?

Does Monster Hunter have red blood?

Couldn't imagine them adopting a more gritty/realistic look only to then remove blood. Though Xenoblade had blood...
