Oculus Rift requires 60 FPS V synced + 3D.
Obviously it all depends on how good you want your game to look, but yeah...it requires a pretty decent machine.
Aren't the panels in the Rift fairly low-res?

Added functionality on top of a service that is pretty much ESSENTIAL to everyday life. and the fact that Apple'smarketing is/was the best in the world especially when it comes to trying to make other products look inferior to their own.Steve Jobs
Now I have a question for you what person buys a $90 phone then buys a $600 game console that's like buying a used Pinto and putting 24 inch rims on it.
Aren't the panels in the Rift fairly low-res?
I disagree.
What's even funnier is when you read the posts in this thread when people was saying that we will be lucky if we even get 2GB of Ram in Next Gen Consoles
I proposed this 6 months ago here, and got slaughtered!
According to GAF this was doable in about 10 years.

I rather enjoyed bluray.Ok...

The problem this time is that the consoles barely match the specs of a mid range PC a year BEFORE launch.
This will leave a huge gap at the high end side, and is a free ticket for someone like Samsung if they would want to enter the console space. I`m afraid the PS4 will be so mediocre that it will just fade away like Vita. It wont do anything special, will just be same shit, a little prettier...not sure that will go so well with building hype create "the next big thing".
I`m afraid for Sony at this point, everything is just mediocre. At a good pricepoint maybe, but that wont matter if people just dont care for it or other competition comes along and blows it away.
As Steve Jobs said, you`ve got to give the customers what they dont know they want. What Sony does here (IF the specs are right) is just trying to play it safe, and try to listen to everybody and comes up with something in the middle of everything. Mediocre. Never works in business.
As for Microsoft; they making this mistake shouldnt surprise anyone. Remember when the Iphone was revealed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eywi0h_Y5_U
This clown doesnt know anything.
Hahaha, I can imagine.
I like physical media a lot, but man, I think they could push the hardware enough to make it worth it. I know it would be a risky decision, but obviously we would need bandwith caps to go away and digital prices to be cheaper.
I proposed they could make a base SKU digital only, with the possibility to buy a slot in drive add on. That way they could pack it with rendering centric tech only and sell it for 499.
That would be a 5GFlops machine.
Except that's what they did with the Vita, and look. People still don't know they want it.
Now a new Playstation, there is a market for that, don't worry (except in Japan!)
Actually the 90$ phone gave me MORE features than the Iphone at the time. You dont make sense at all.
It wouldnt need to sell to those buying 90 dollar phones...it could sell to those 90 millions buying Iphones.
I see, so your problem is you think the Oculus requires some super powered behemoth 5flops to pull off? It doesn't, a lot of what the Oculus is is just the right pairing of visual equipment and accelerometers. For a jury-rigged offering on the same page but without that field of view, cast your eyes over this offering:

Thats with the PS3, current gen tech. The PS4 looking to go 6x-8x beyond, and you dont think it wouldnt be able to support the Rift? No, what Sony is rightfully hesitant about is the theoretical "Buy this $450 console, now buy this $300 headset" market.
Youre getting very confused with GAF tech thread posters and CES tech show aficionados with the rest of the population of Earth. One set is a very slim minority!

A Blu-ray drive is neither expensive nor terrible power hungry. It's not 2006 any more.

There may not be a home console market in Japan anymore going by how poorly the WiiU is selling there.
but it won't, not at 600 because most of them won't be able to see the value in a 600 game console because the vast majority of people buying consoles can give 2 shits about graphics I sure as hell don't. Now can I please get the name of this magical $90 super phone?
HAHA thats *NOT what they did with the Vita. They build something customers DIDNT want, that wont work![]()
It was the biggest cost driving factor in PS3 in 2009. At around 100$...the GPU/RSX was about 30/40$.
In PS4 the drive will most certainly be faster, and more expensive.

It's not 2009 any more too. It may be still expensive but I'm sure it isn't more than $100 anymore since 12x BD is about $80.
I was being facetious, the information you're asking for is very difficult to obtain at this moment, there has been some vague info regarding de SIMD operations but not sure about latencies yet.
It won't be more expensive, but it will surely use up a lot of space.
Could almost get a second GPU at that price....Cell was 30$ too I think
Not really because you need media support for console (DVD is way too low and very slow). 6x BD is more like $40 or less.
It will be more expensive than in PS3, because it will be faster.

Ok....link?
We talked about digital only/download.
Consumers want Vita, its just consumers can't afford Vita.

Quite hard to find 6X but there is 10X for $50

I don't see anything to do with BluRay rom. Please stay on topic.
I stand corrected
Anyways, it would be as much as Cell then.
It doesn't work like that.

You look more more fool every posts tho.
DVD is also $40ish too. So no point to replace them because you need them.

It wouldnt have DVD either.

No. Most Bluray players and drives are faster than the 2x one in the ps3. It's highly possible or even probable that it costs Sony more to make that drive. How does it work, slower more expensive?![]()
