No thanks on beta male pussy Clark Kent. Hearing he's gonna put on glasses at all is a bummer. I want him to stay a hairy chested Alaskan fisherman.

The glasses thing is going to be one of those "look, you either go with it or you don't." type deals. It has been ever since 1950. It's as silly and outdated a tradition as the undies-on-the-outside thing was. Honestly, at this point in the character's lifespan, there's absolutely zero reason for him to even HAVE a secret identity. Everyone should know that he's Clark Kent.

The number of superheroes who have secret identites where that identity's secrecy is actually USEFUL to the storytelling in some way is very small. At this point, Superman is not one of those Superheroes.

I don't know if acting like a complete goof will go well with the tone they're going for here. So I'm really interested to see how they're going to do this.

Reeve made the glasses disguise almost believable. Intellectually I knew there's no way Lois wouldn't know who he was, but on film I never questioned it or thought about it, he was just that good in both roles and it was written so well. I see that Cavill picture with the glasses, and I'm like, come on. The similarity will be even more glaring in a movie that's certainly going to play it more straight. I'll wait and see though.

We still don't know what type of glasses he's going to be wearing or even how his hair will be worn. Those glasses are photoshopped on and the pic was just taken for Empire mag, all the actors were dressed up for that shoot. We have seen footage/behind the scene pics of Clark riding a bike without glasses on and dressed very casual and his hair could be all wavy like unlike the way his hair is as Superman. For all we know he could have a southern midwestern accent :P That would be insane if he could pull off two different accents esp since he's British. Ive always wondered why he couldn't just sound different as well since he was raised on a farm in Kansas.

That would be cool to see, especially since Clark is supposed to throw his voice in his civilian identity.

As for the glasses, they've become so much a part of Superman for people that it would be a real bummer to lose them. Sure, it's silly, but it's a Superman movie. I think we can allow for a bit of silliness.

You think the Daily Planet would hire fisherman Clark? lol Clark Kent can't stay a fisherman the rest of his life, he would have no connection to Lois, Perry White, Metropolis, news etc

Bad ass beard Clark is awesome though.

There used to be a dude that wrote a fishing column in my local paper. I think his only qualification was that he was awesome at fishing. Imagine how awesome Clark would be at fishing with his X-ray vision and shit

Why would he want to work at the Daily Planet? Journalists are puny nerds.

To get insides the pants of Lois... duh!

"I would."

You would just stare at him.

Fun fact, Kansans don't have accents. We're boring as hell.

This might be the most depressing post today, even more than being overloaded by Cain pics.

Clark being a dufus is so much more interesting to me, I don't know why anyone would want him to be anything else. I love seeing how far an actor can go, if Cavill is just a normal guy as Clark it's going to be boring as fuck because Superman is a normal guy too personality-wise (well not exactly but in terms of being a 'guy' he has confidence, is outgoing etc.). There will be little difference except the suit and glasses and the point is that Clark should be the complete opposite of Superman.

And Amy Adams looks nothing like Lois should look, but I'll wait and see since I think she's a good actress. But that look in the trailer... all I see is damsel in distress and that's not Lois at all, but it's only one look so I can't judge yet.

yeah but only christopher reeves could pull that off, he was perfect at it, so funny. Ah well you dont have him, so do another version of clark i say, dont keep forcing that down peoples throats when that itself was a unique take on clark that only reeves could pull off anyway.

The handling of News reporter Clark will be interesting to see. Goofball Clark really isn't going to work with the tone they have set, nor would I want to see that.

Some of you are vocal about Routh in the suit, but I thought his Clark impersonation was terrific. There are some genuinely funny scenes in the Daily Planet. I think there is one scene, not sure if I remember right, where we're given a visual clue as to the relation between the kid and Clark as they both walk into a door

I'd like a mix of charcterizations from Birthright and Superman TAS for Clark Kent in MOS. That way he's not a total dufus but can also not been thought of as Superman.

I'm hoping for that, too. My dream scenario would be Lois knowing Clark is Superman and helping him get the job, but I know that's unlikely with what we've seen.

That suit that you chose to link was in one episode

But your right. 2006 Movie budget>1993 TV budget

I posted three different suits. All look hideous, and it's not simply because of budget. The aesthetic of that show was superbly goofy and ugly at times. It's dated in a way with the 1978 Superman isn't. You can't blame Cain on budget, otherwise you'd have as many people saying Welling, George Reeves, and the 90s show was garbage too.

Weird. People seem to care a lot more about that episode than whichever one Cain was in ( :',

There's a shot in the comic-con footage of Clark entering the Daily Planet and putting on his glasses.

You don't think I know that? Heh.

So you really think it ends with a shot of him getting into the elevator at the Daily Planet putting on the glasses for the the first time like in the comic-con trailer? can't picture the movie ending like that.

I think we will see some of the reporter side, but not much.

I think so too. There seems to be a great deal of material for this movie to cover in under 2 1/2 hours, so I'm assuming that shot is near the end of the movie or going to be a simple nod/in-joke where Clark wants to walk into the Daily Planet at some point. It's unlikely he'll be a Metropolis Reporter for any significant portion of the film.

I agree. Routh was fine. Not the best, but he definitely didn't do a bad job.

all of the above ( related to Cain mostly)

"It's unlikely he'll be a Metropolis Reporter for any significant portion of the film. "

I'm not saying it's gonna be significant, I just don't think it's gonna be a 1 min or less clip/ or nod/in joke.

Maybe we'll have one scene where he's a man-about-town, whichever includes the bike. I don't see Nolan & Snyder making Lois blind to Clark Kent being Superman with the route they're apparently going, so that's another reason I wouldn't imagine we'll see much of him reporting in Metropolis.

I'm the guy in the back reading the paper.

Stareman.

Truthfully I have no clue where they're taking it and I like that. Finally a Superman movie where in the long run I have hints, but not the big overall picture of how this all will go and I'm fucking pleased about that.

I liked how Clark was in Birthright: shy and non-social and kind of a bore in his co-workers' eyes. He didn't act like a bumbling fool, but instead chose to just be out of the way and draw as little attention to himself as possible

The way they handle it now in the New52 comics sphere, Clark is just a normal reporter (now blogger) and Superman is godlike. No one would ever even suspect. Seriously if you actually saw a Superman, you never think the guy you ride up in the elevator is him.

No more Nerd Clark.

Birthright is the way to go. Hints from Smallville and Earth One could work, or even modern Action Comics.

I know Dean Cain's Superman was light compared to all the other incarnations. I also know they played his Superman totally different as well. Budget does play a major roll as well as the talent that they hired. It's not like Dean Cain made the suit himself.

I stick up for Dean Cain the same way people stick up for Routh. Dean Cain's Clark was genuinely good. He was played smart, funny and not a total bubbling buffoon) and although he may have been on the whiny side, that was just another quirk that set him apart from Superman.

And lets not pretend Smallville was all good. It started strong and ended stronger. Thats it.
A lot of Bullshit in the middle.

Clearly this episode was the pinnacle of Tom Welling's acting as Clark Kent. ( :',

FYI I'm totally digging the new style and I'm only having fun with Dean Cain haters here. As much as I back him up my favorites are Reeve and TAS.

I'll see what Synder and Nolan bring to the realistic table, but I hope by the end of the movie they inspire me to do community service and help my fellow man

It definetly fits with him being a alien even at work he's a outsider among his human co-workers.

You don't say lol

Campy douche has to pose for Lois...

Yeah, we're both basically on the same page on everything aside from L&C. Smallville is far from perfect, but like you said- "started strong, ended stronger" with lots of crap in between. I'll disagree on budget affecting the suit on the show, though, as they clearly wanted to 90s Superman up in a stylistic sense. The cape length, the shoulder placement, the felt-looking S, etc... he just looked silly, even when compared to the 80s Superboy show.

Cain was harmless as Clark, but a lot of the depth you speak of with him was done with Welling, Routh, Reeve, Daily, etc. Welling honestly was given a lot of opportunities to basically take bits and pieces from the best of L&C and rework them in a less silly fashion, which was kind of cool.

yeah was the main reason I stuck with the show.

I feel like Cain's version of Clark (Not Superman) was the reason we saw more of a confident less clumsy Clark in the TAS, and Smallville. In the movies Clark was just this character Superman was before he went to save people. In The tv series they focused on Clark being a regular guy and finding it in himself to become a Superman, just like they are doing in Man of Steel. (see how I kept it semi on topic ;) )

Fuck his Superman, but his Clark was alright
(ok I'm tired of defending him lol dont bring him up and well be straight unless you want the discussion to continue)
