Sorry I don't really know TV actor names I just know her as Pam from The Office.

Lol that's not Pam from the office. That's the movie actress Amy Adams.

The actress who plays Pam is Jenna Fischer.

Although oddly enough, Amy Adams was on three eps of The Office.

lol true and one episode of Smallville. Never thought she would end up being Lois Lane in a huge movie.

She's become one heck of an actress.

Nope. Dean Cain was. Teri Hatcher too.

Teri Hatcher was great on Smalliville (even though it was an old recording to Lois), Dean Cain can go f himself :)

"Ah yes, Amy played the girl that ate other girls.

She ate more than just girls. Man that sounds sexual O_o

YES.

The glasses thing is going to be one of those "look, you either go with it or you don't." type deals. It has been ever since 1950. It's as silly and outdated a tradition as the undies-on-the-outside thing was. Honestly, at this point in the character's lifespan, there's absolutely zero reason for him to even HAVE a secret identity. Everyone should know that he's Clark Kent. The number of superheroes who have secret identites where that identity's secrecy is actually USEFUL to the storytelling in some way is very small. At this point, Superman is not one of those Superheroes.

1. since 1938. since the character's inception.
2. explain why his identity is useless now, how and why would people know he's Clark kent?

We still don't know what type of glasses he's going to be wearing or even how his hair will be worn. Those glasses are photoshopped on and the pic was just taken for Empire mag, all the actors were dressed up for that shoot. We have seen footage/behind the scene pics of Clark riding a bike without glasses on and dressed very casual and his hair could be all wavy like unlike the way his hair is as Superman. For all we know he could have a southern midwestern accent :P That would be insane if he could pull off two different accents esp since he's British. Ive always wondered why he couldn't just sound different as well since he was raised on a farm in Kansas.

that'd be so cool if he had a midwest twang (if there is one) but a lot of people are known to take speech classes to get rid of accents.

I liked how Clark was in Birthright: shy and non-social and kind of a bore in his co-workers' eyes. He didn't act like a bumbling fool, but instead chose to just be out of the way and draw as little attention to himself as possible

I liked John Byrne version.

There trying too hard to make superman dark and gritty and its gonna flop. Compare the trailer for MOS to any of the Iron man trailers especially Iron Man 3. Superman should be bright and fun with crazy action like the marvel movies not a Linkin Park special.

1. You're misunderstanding me. I'm not saying the glasses didn't show up until the 1950s. I'm saying they became too fucking ridiculous for their own good in the 50s. That's about the point where suspension of disbelief became so heavy that even Superman couldn't lift it. It's only gotten worse since, especially when you translate him to the realm of live-action, where people who look like, and act like, functioning human beings are easily fooled by such a non-disguise. It worked in the comics of the 40s, because the comics of the 40s were fucking dumb more often than not. But it's a premise that only works if you consciously decide to give it a pass at this point.

2. Because the drama added by him protecting the Clark Kent identity is small, and the amount of stories enhanced by that drama are even smaller. There's almost no point in mining that particular dichotomy anymore, so far as the comics, or the cartoons go. Donner did away with it in the second movie (and then botched his ending trying to put that genie back in the box - which wasn't worth it) If you're doing an origin? Yeah. Sure. But at this point, the concept of the secret identity is kept around in comics moreso because of tradition than for any actual storytelling advantage it gives the people writing those stories.

It's always made little to no sense that a man as upstanding and honest as he is would persist in lying to the people he's protecting about who he is. At some point Superman would admit his real name is Clark Kent, and he came here from Krypton, where he was named Kal-El.

What trailer are you watching? smh a Linkin Park special

You're so off with this movie it's odd.

I disagree.

Clark wants to live to his fullest potential, which is what Superman allows him to do. Making Clark Kent the disguise allows him to have a normal life and not always be the world's biggest celebrity. It also lets him have a normal, everyday life- something we take for granted. Also, if people knew who Superman's family and friends were they'd go after them when they wanted to hurt Superman. He can't be everywhere at once and having Clark Kent maintain his normal life makes the most sense.

Shit she looks perfect. lol iPad

ok, you must be watching the trailer for Superman : Red Son or something else because none of those clips are 'Dark n Grim!"

I did not.

he protects humanity but he needs to keep the people closest to him safe. if every enemy of his knew who he was and where he lived and where he worked, and where his parents lived and where his girlfriend lived and where his dry cleaner lived it would be a warzone EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
of course he needs the identity. plus even a Superman needs to decompress. some people see him as some messiah and they'd just be coming up to him every second asking or begging for all kinds of favors/requests that would not let him get his real work done.

Those two trailers are pretty uplifting. The "Linkin Park" aspect you're talking about is hot-garbage manufactured in your head in order to poo-poo what looks like a well made, kickass movie that isn't as one-dimensional as your average comic book flick.

Loosen up.

Henry in EMPIRE:
"I am never a fan of using the adjective 'darker'. It is not a dark movie by any means. Past representations of the character have been quite light...This is a more realistic view on the character, while still maintaining the very unrealistic, or potentially unrealistic, features of an alien with superpowers."

His mother would be at the center of the biggest media circus in history. I doubt an old widowed woman would enjoy that. Also she'd probably get blown up or skinned alive.

In Henry I trust.

This is all rote, though. it's bad reasoning, repeated over and over through the decades to bolster an out-of-date/archaic storytelling conceit. Besides which, all his coworkers/parents/friends are constantly targeted ANYWAY. His rogues gallery always figures out who they need to hit to REALLY rile up Superman.

The above is basically just empty justification to adhere to superhero convention for the sake of it. It's easier to do it this way because its always been done this way. just like his goddamned underwear.

Imagine solving the (meaningless) conundrums his secret identity creates with a solution that doesn't involve lying to the people he cares about. imagine how much more creative the storytelling might become if you made writers come up with new ways to solve those problems.

I think people are just starting to make shit up with this whole "dark and gritty" thing with super-hero movies.

The Amazing Spider-Man tried to do it, and that Daredevil movie from 2004, but aside from the Nolan's Batman films...I can't think of a ton of super-hero movies that tried to be "dark and gritty" without calling for it. I mean, Watchmen absolutely needed to be, so did the Batman films. I'm not seeing anything remotely dark or gritty about Man of Steel. Yeah, it's taking itself seriously, but who cares? Plenty of Superman stories have done that, it's absolutely not new. If it's not as goofy and quippy as a Marvel movie it's automatically trying to be dark and gritty? Huh?

Superman just can't win on the internet. Everyone thinks he's a lame boy scout and "the worst character in comics" (often said by people who have never actually read a Superman comic), so when they actually try to make him interesting people just bitch about it and say that DC is "trying too hard lolz".

Some people are just dicks.

I understand the necessity of a secret identity.

I think it stems from the origins - what will everyone think of this super powered alien? Will they accept him, or will they want to experiment on him? And if its the latter, it means that Ma and Pa Kent lose their only child and in either case they will have a huge media circus around them.

Having a secret identity allows Clark to live two lives - one as a mild manner reporter and another as a messiah-like figure. And it's understandable if he needs a break from being some god-like figure and just be a normal, every day person. It also allows him to connect with humanity, which has always been one of his strongest characteristics.

Now, you can say these are archaic tropes or whatever, but that doesn't mean it's not true. He is not a human who also happens to be a hero - he's an alien who wants to be a human. The only way for this to be true is for him to assume the identity of Clark Kent.

If they had any balls they would base it on the Grant Morrison, aka TRUE, version of the charecter. Yall need to read Superman and the Men of Steel to truely understand the character:

smh I can't tell if you're a troll, but it's starting to feel that way.

lol @ truly understand the character... yep none of us get Superman here at all. And you pick Grant's weaker work on the character.

"Much better then what we're getting. "
