New Sonic game rumored to be unviled in February for almost every platform

I'd say Colors and Generations are above-average, but at this point we're probably better off with Sega not experimenting too much...

I agree.

Color felt the best, since it's the first of the duo that came out.

It felt like, you know, when you play one of the older Resident Evil and your health is at 'DANGER' since like fucking 10 hours and you finally find a First Aid Spray when you're sure everything is over.

It looks we may not be getting a new Sonic game announcement this weekend afterall.

Weekend Sonic Team Livestream Will “Relive Sonic History”
Wanted a New Sonic? Prepare for Disappointment.

A lot has been made of yesterday’s report that indicated key members of Sonic Team would sit in on a special 24 hour long Internet livestream Sega was producing for this weekend. TSSZ has now translated the exact contents of that stream as Sega has promoted it, and it may be much ado about nothing.

We asked our Japan correspondent Danny Russell to afford a proper translation of the Sonic Team session listing as shown here. The translation indicates the time will most likely be spent as a retrospective than anything else:

90 minutes devoted to indulging in Sonic. Relive Sonic history and classic SEGA hardware.

That doesn’t necessarily mean something major won’t be announced at the session–or that something major won’t be announced over the course of the weekend, with Saturday known to many fans as Hedgehog Day–but this may be nothing more than a playthrough of classic Sonic fare by the main team themselves, and we now have far less confidence today this will be the announcement fans have been waiting for. We’ll still keep watch of the livestream for you this weekend, but it may be best to hop off the hype train for now.

It's still possible (the day of the livestream is "Hedgehog Day") but it might be wise to lower expectations. We should still hear about the game at some point in February as the rumour indicated; but this weekend's Sonic Team livestream may not feature the announcement.

I hope they announce something; but we may be waiting until mid-February as the rumour stated. Hopefully the announcement comes sooner rather than later.

This is actually the best mash-up I could ever think of.

It's not going far enough.

Give me a Sonic game, in which Sonic visits a bunch of Sega franchises and help the characters through the stages.

Like for example Eggman travel interdimentional and was helping Golden Rhyno in Tokyo-To, Land Di in Shenmue world, and what ever the names of the villains in other popular All-star cast. Then Sonic goes helping everyone in different stages based of Sega franchises.

Sounds an awful lot like the Pokemon Direct retrospective, where Pokemon X and Y were revealed. It's not uncommon for retrospectives to showcase the next developments in series; "That's where we came from, now we're doing THIS!"

Oh man, this is totally what it should happen.

Okay.

0:08 onward. Dat synth.

Now this is a gentleman with taste, the invincibility remix of this is really good. When I first saw Modern Sonic in green hill, my first though was, " when the PC version comes out, I bet there's going to be a mode of Coral Cave". It never happened :(

Actually, Sonic Team's done this in the past! It's entirely possible they'll do it again.

The game they did it for was Shadow the Hedgehog. They showcased the Genesis games, a bit of the Adventures... and then cut to Shadow walking up to the screen and shooting at the camera. A bigger contrast between "what we've done" and "what we're doing" could not be possible.

no classic blood invited to talk about the history of Sonic. Should be interesting to see what Sonic Team says :)

Man, a Sweet Dreams remix for the ending of Generations would have been perfect.

Why was it wasted on 06 ; _ ;

Nah, Generations needed a Sonic 3 ending remix. Considering they left that game out and all...

And don't give me that 'S&K is Sonic 3' crap, you all know that isn't true.

That's why it's "not bad" and not "good".

But yeah, I guess it was just hearing the arrangement of the original melody that I liked.

Fun fact: Dreams Come True released that album BEFORE Sonic 2 released. They also made song versions of Green Hill Zone, Starlight Zone, and Labyrinth Zone.

That website has an awful track record with rumors, I wouldn't put any faith into it.

Would love the next Sonic OST to be directed by Naofumi Hataya (like Sonic CD). Im OK with Ohtani or Tokoi too, I just want Senoue to stay away.

Too bad Sasaki is not in Sega anymore (Hataya+Sasaki like in Nights: into dreams =best Sonic OST ever)

Forgive them God for they know not what they are doing.

It's time for Sega to make a Sonic game as good as a Mario game as it was in the past...sticking with this same formula that results in average titles sickens me.

God forbid they stick and try to polish aa formula which has been decently recieved.

Sonic music eh? I've always been of the opinion that in a perfect game, a lot of the stage music from Sonic 06 would have been rather phenomenal.

I hate bringing that game up but it's got some underrated gems in it I don't ever see mentioned. Odd example but most evident for me would be Aquatic Base, it has a gorgeous piano and I like how it goes for a "mellow" approach instead of a more intense one considering it's one of the final levels in the game.

The second part is also rather cool. In any other game that would have a level with a huge build-up for some sort of pre-twist final stretch (like a Persona 4 dungeon or something) I can imagine this being really good.

I agree. Thats what I like about the current composers (Ohtani, Hataya, Tokoi..). Lots of different genres, with catchy melodies and well produced, without shitty meow-synths.

Sonic 2006 ost was awesome and really well done, if maybe a little too serious for Sonic (although the game was too serious for the franchise). They followed the same formula but more in tone with Sonic in Unleashed and Colors.

It looks like there will be a 3rd Party Nintendo direct in a few weeks. I could see a Sonic game getting shown at that given Nintendo and Sega's relationship now.

http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/5a5inj/annoyed-gamer-scary-business

Towards the end he talks about comments from the last show. Apparently someone accused him of praising the U because he got a free (review) system. He goes on to say that "Nintendo direct was great last week, new games coming, another Nintendo Direct in a couple of weeks talking about the third parties"

This may be the wrong place to post this but I am not a member so I cant make topics so perhaps one of you can.

the stream is over,

no new announcement, it was amusing to watch though, Especially when the Sonic fans started going crazy and the Japanese mod on Nico video was trying to tell them there was no new Sonic announcement. Sonic fans are going wild right now, wild with anger.

Anyways, SEGA West posted this today, a red herring

Didn't Jun already state on Twitter that there would be no announcement? Sure glad I don't dive as deep into that fan base as I once used to. I bet the speculation and bickering amongst users is at a high on SSMB right now.

Sorry! I just got home so I couldn't watch the interview or translate what Iizuka said! :(

I hope it's archived somewhere cuz it should be fun considering this is the guy we're talking about!

I still think something's due for mid-late Feb or March. It usually happens that way and we're due for something.

Now that I think about it, Nintendo consoles will probably see two Sonic games. I mean, this year it should be time for Mario & Sonic at Winter Olympic Games 2014, no?

Probably late in the year, yes. I think they still have the license, and those games sell rather decently.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's Wii U/3DS given that Nintendo platforms are typically Sonic's best platforms. When they're all separated by platform, apparently Sonic Generations 3DS sold more than the other versions (ie: via legs, but it was a slow burn).

"Rather decently" is an understatement - the last two have been in the platform top three for the best part of a year each in the UK! :)

God I hope they make a Wii U-exclusive, we got a load of Wii-exclusive, I'd kill to see what Sega can pull off with Sonic when they focus on one HD platform.

Haven't most games been good when they've been focused on one platform anyway? One platform helps maintain polish and focus, they can focus on making it, you know, good when they don't have to worry about bringing it to a dozen platforms (exaggeration I know).

Still shocked we didn't see Gens on Wii U for the holidays, I mean if EA is content with a late ME3 port (as was everyone else at launch), why not Sega with a game that'd actually make some sense?

It wouldn't have competed with ASRT since that's a spin-off, plus competitive pricing would've helped.

The main Sonic game? Naaaah, it'll be for everything. IIRC, these rumours are usually pretty accurate. Even if this Sonic would rival FIFA for the number of SKUs.
PS3, 360, Wii U, PS4, 720, 3DS, Vita and PC. Woah.
