EVO 2K13 Player's Choice: Donate money to breast cancer and get your favorite game in

Fuck this entire mentality, seriously. If a person or group of people wants to drop 30k for Breast Cancer Research then anyone's right to complain about it is null. I don't see arguments here saying it's "low" for people to be putting money into Guilty Gear or Melty Blood despite their standings, the bitching comes about because oh, darn, ST actually has a chance now.

Stop the presses! Your generosity has gone too far!

Refer to my comment when it comes to taking the entire charity as a competition, because that's what a very vocal base considers this to be. I wasn't talking about my view on this personally. If you didn't cherry pick that particular line you'd might have noticed that what I said was I don't see why I should feel bad for him donating to that particular game in this moment of time if it loses the race, assuming that was all he was in it for.

I'm glad it goes to charity, and that's what it should be considered. It's just a shame a lot of people don't, so this kind of instance was really inevitable.

There is a fundamental disconnect that just won't allow people to get their thoughts across without pissing off someone else here. Scenes like those in Smash and Skullgirls know this is the only way they'll ever get into EVO and spectators like those on GAF can sit back and enjoy the salt for what amounts to donations.

This drive was never about the donations to a certain number of people because this was their only avenue to get in EVO in the first place. Now whenever anyone has objections about anything in the drive they have to deal with being called monsters/whiners/babies despite the fact that they might have donated half their check last week towards charity. Of course... those accusations aren't completely without merit. Lots of shit has been flung between SG and Smash which made them look childish at times.

This is like a one way trip into a box that has no exits. Pressure is just gonna build up until it all explodes. Luckily I can talk like this because one of the most important things that could happen for Skullgirls and Lab Zero Games happened yesterday. Smashers got nothing besides the status quo waiting for them so you are going to see salt on levels that may poison our very atmosphere.

Hm...has this already been posted? Pretty shady if it's real. :\

Who cares how old the game is? People still play and watch baseball and that's been around for ice ages. Keep your butthurt rational pls

Comparing baseball with ever-changing rosters to a video game? Really?

Is a game truly old if a great deal of players still play it and it still has small and, at times, large movement in its tier list?

One could make a list of games that have been released post HDR (the latest release of ST) that are dead and in their grave. Imagine a list of games post arcade ST that are dead and in their grave.

I'm sorry that you don't enjoy the game, but calling it old really isn't going to get your point across.

What I meant by "old" is that it's gotten plenty of due over the years. It's been at nearly every EVO for goodness sakes. Let it rest and have another game get a ray of light for once. I'd rather have nearly any other game as the 8th slot than a Street Fighter II game.

Not to mention it's boring as hell to watch.

Glass houses etc.

Well, although Melee is my game of choice (thanks for asking), regardless, it isn't nearly a rusty staple to the FGC than ST is. Compared to ST, Melee seems refreshing.

Sure. If you like those games. I don't. I wouldn't care to watch Melee or Brawl. At all. I'd prefer Tecmo Bowl.

Let's go ST!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't Melee a game that has had plenty of due with big tournaments itself? It isn't a game that requires "a ray of light", it's a game that still gets plenty of game and has its own events.

A thing I don't understand about the Smash community is they seemed to be perfectly fine in their own community but now when it turns out that their chance to get into EVO isn't guaranteed after all, the bitching starts. The game might or might not get into EVO. The game will still have tournaments for it for years to come. Big deal.

Super Turbo winning would be boring as fuck, but more money towards charity is always a plus.

So you don't understand the game because you dont watch it because you find it boring. Got it. Maybe if you tried to pay attention you would see that it's a new game every year.

Why don't you base your opinion on the merits of Smash and not attempt to discredit a game you know nothing about.

I can't argue with someone who is being willingly ignorant, so I won't anymore.

"Declare me winner or I'll refute the charge as fraud" isn't sad at all?
Fake anyway

He can try to refute the charge as fraud, doesn't mean that he'll be able to get back the money. Who cares, the whole donation drive was a stupid idea in the first place due to reasons like this. So if you want to blame, don't blame the guy, blame Mr Wizard and co for thinking it's a good idea to encourage people to buy their way into the EVO lineup.

Can I ask how you guys came to the conclusion that this is fake? I know that the guy who posted this is a troll so it being fake is extremely likely.

I don't want ST to win. Anything but ST. Didn't they have a tournament of legends last year already? Please move on already.

I'm assuming that their reasoning was that they wouldn't be able to sort out a way for people to honestly vote for games. So they were like fuck it, doesn't matter what takes 8th, everyone should be happy to donate to charity in the end. Not to mention that they already have 7 fighting games for people to play, in case they aren't satisfied with the final choice.

In which case, doesn't bother me one bit. Giving to charity is mad dope.

But ST isnt good so who cares. It's worth noting that the game was never *popular*. it always got low turnouts relative to other games, even at earlier evo's and the B series

Yes? Explain to me how the comparison doesn't work.

Baseball, while the core game remains mostly the same, sees new players, weather conditions, the occasional new team and rule change, etc. ST, on the other hand, is a static game with the same characters, rules, and stages it has seen for almost two decades. A player might discover new technology but that's about it. The game isn't going to be radically changed, especially at this point in time.

The deciding factor here is human variability. The way a player swings the bat and the current weather conditions during a game changes constantly and the baseball's trajectory is different. You input a combo in ST, and it's always going to be that combo. Or you screw up the input, and you just don't do the combo.

This is not to say that fighting games are boring to watch, but the level of variability in most real-life sports is so much greater than any given fighting game that it's laughable that they could be compared in such a way.

Well, you know. Opinions, so on and so forth.

I don't think ST and Melee are comparable in terms of how much exposure and support each has received. =/

And I wouldn't consider myself a representative of the Melee community. It's just a game I'd rather watch over a 19 year old 16-bit game.
And no, that's not a dig on 16-bit games, just 16-bit games that have been seen a bit too much.

lol @ move on. A great game is a great game, regardless of the year it came out. ST is the best SF and deserves to be at every EVO.

Hope it wins!

The salt is finally settling in.

Whatever wins clearly deserves the spot the most (though at this point, I'd say the top 3 games all clearly deserve a spot). The fact that people are going so nuts over this money for charity is kinda crazy, but it is what it is I guess.

If Smash or Skullgirls or ST wants to win, then they'll do it tonight, simple enough.

Why? If a game is good, why stop playing it?

But the game is damn hype! Just think of all the killers from all around the world coming for ST! So much potential upsets and blowups, I really hope ST wins.

I'm sick of watching it?

Never cared for the game much.

I'd rather watch another game--CV2, Skullgirls.

I'd take ST over Melee. It seems more appropriate for the EVO crowd and given their love for Capcom.

You kind of just told me exactly why the comparison does work. Both games have rules that are old as dirt, but are still breathing life because of new players playing the games in new ways. The tier lists are always changing, there's new technology all the time. This is my point - it doesn't matter that the games are old, because the players make it new.

I don't know who this is but it'd be nice if you did your research and actually looked at the image before claiming it's real in a tweet. The service fee is ridiculously low. The service fee goes up depending on how much you donate. On top of that, the $7000.50 in question is completely unaligned. The person originally donated $70 or something and then shopped the image. $7000 was never raised by one person. The only money donated by one person for SSBM was $4000 and he did not post that screenshot.

As I said before, the image is shopped and was used to troll people. Getting salty over something fake doesn't help anyone out.

No one is taking 7,000 dollars away from anything. The only money that's been lost was $300 from ST the other day, which was either disputed or the money wasn't accepted.

It'd be nice if people didn't take things at face value. With all the faked screenshots from the first couple of days, you'd think people wouldn't flip over something like this right away and actually investigate it.

So don't watch?

Doesn't seem hard. I would love to enter an ST tourney at EVO. :D

I would just like to say that I would be interested in seeing a list of unique donors for each game, just to see who between Melee and Skullgirls had more people supporting them.
