I recall a discussion earlier about how Sakurai should have delivered KI at launch and Nintendo gives him too much time and money for his games that take years.
Though that may have been another thread, it's hard to tell today.
What Galaxy did was new and really interesting but it didn't capture me as much as Sunshine and 64 did. I think I prefer less linear stuff and want to wander around bigger areas exploring.
Imagine if Skyward Sword had been moved to Wii U and wasn't based around MotionPlus but instead was a good game.
You're right. It would be a good game instead of an excellent game like it is.
its always been about money, people acting sad to see iwata go? Psh please.
Yeah man, superior controls and superior graphics = worse game.
Opinions on SS aside, I think in retrospect releasing it for Wii was a mistake, and it pushing it on to Wii U would have made way more sense.
WiiU should've launched with a major Zelda or even Mario. Not that tired NSMB that is always the same.
Iwata's weakness to me is mainly when it comes to dealing with marketing, it's abysmal, from product naming WiiU/3DS to console design and branding, he knows the business from a developers viewpoint but he can't deal with the marketing side of things. I'm not saying he does it all but I imagine he ultimately has the last word on these things.
Plus all the damn plastic accessories, he clearly can't say no to Miyamoto.
No, if anything, Twilight Princess (cross-system) style of release would have been best.
but NSMB is bigger than 3D Mario and Zelda combined...
Wow, looking at that table, you begin to understand why Nintendo has made a lot of the stupid choices they've made. It used to work. No, but it did sell a lot
When it's all said and done it will be probably outsold by it.
Why would that be "best"? How did the GameCube release of TP benefit anybody other than poor Nintendo fans?

That was me. I want Sakurai's head!
No, seriously I only question why the 3D Mario and Mario Kart 8 teams are under such intense pressure to produce in a timely fashion when Sakurai's titles are seemingly granted as much time as necessary.
I anticipate another Mario Kart title with modest enhancements. Meanwhile, after the glory that was Galaxy, there are certainly high expectations for the follow up. I would love to see these games get more time in order to add more of everything, as Sakurai gets to do with his projects.
And 3DS did need a killer app at launch. KI would have fit the bill nicely, but for whatever reason, it was not ready - or the pressure was not on to get it ready. Perhaps the initial plan was to let 3rd parties flourish and when things got scary, it was felt KI would not suffice. They needed surefire hits at that point. Who knows? But I mean no disrespect in my armchair analysis. Should we rather be calling out individual programmers and such? Haha
? By releasing it on GC also, they had more sales potential. I don't know how much the GC version sold, but I would bet it was over a million. The Wii version had motion controls, so it had a selling point over the GC version.

My problem is that I have yet to see any great suggestion on what Nintendo can do to fix everything from the peanut gallery.
Giving Wii U a strong exclusive and taking advantage of it's power seems more beneficial than the extra sales you could get releasing two versions. Alas Nintendo don't have my vision.
No, I seemingly just misunderstood, my apologies.
I mean, all they have to do is stop trying to feel the low-end hardware spec and uber-casual market.
That's all. Who wouldn't be hype as fuck about a Metroid Prime game with PS4/Xbox720 visuals? I want old Nintendo that wasn't afraid to compete on specs back. The Nintendo that understood the value of the 3rd party. If Iwata has to go, then send his ass packing.
It's obvious where the blame should go.
Gunpei Yokoi.
He planted the seed of "good enough"
and yet he's responsible for some of the best that Nintendo offered. He fucked with the VB but he was the real heart and soul of Nintendo.
I wouldn't be surprised if Miyamoto set him up to fail with the VB.
It's no mystery that Metroid has been absolutely raped under Miyamoto's stewardship!

I like Iwata. I don't know if he has the know how to dig Nintendo out of their current position without doing the things they most definitely do not want to do, but I'm not sure many/anybody does. But I like him. I like listening to him speak. I am convinced he comes from an honest, software quality first place. And I think he has a good head on his shoulders for keeping the games fun at Nintendo.
If he were to resign, it would be nice if he stayed on, at the very least to host Nintendo Direct. I like him as a face of Nintendo.
Bloody hell. You can't be serious.
Super Metroid. One of the greatest games ever made.
Since then we had nothing for nearly 10 years and then the series got absolutely raped senseless with 2 GBA games that lacked the great level design and 3 cookie cutter western FPS games in quick succession. Completely ruining the special aura that Metroid had.
They can never take Super Metroid from me but they've really tarnished the Series, much like Square has with Final Fantasy!
The less said with farming it out to Team Ninja the better!
Shameful treatment of a legendary series.

He's not going anywhere... I expect a few bombs to be dropped shortly that will help boost the "broken" image the industry like to stamp on them every chance they get.
Time to bring Yamauchi's mighty pimp hand back out of retirement I guess...

But really I think Iwata may be a little to premature on contemplating leaving. The guy needs to stop apologizing year after year and figure out what it takes to recapture some of the Western market they have been loosing. Personally I think they need to give NOA and NOE more control over their respective regions. Maybe get some more Westren studios to develop as second party.

Nintendo would have even less 3rd Party support if Yamauchi came back , that guy is the reason Nintendo is in this mess.
It's called trolling.i said wat
So I was browsing wikipedia and one of the first things to show up was Iwata resigning. Haha.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satoru_Iwata
Man, now I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Do I want to see Wii U sell like shit so Iwata can finally leave Nintendo? But that would mean I would have to put up with x100 Nintendo trolling on Neogaf.
Decisions, decisions.
