Wizard had problem with Sundance and MLG not the actual smash community. When MLG parted ways from Smash, they could of came to EVO. They just never did... but then certain players from smash community started playing SF4, and MVC3 and that help bridge the two communities. What I was surprise by was why didn't the entire community present Smash to EVO. One side tournament of 200+ would of probably got them a spot the following year.

Brawl was a main event at EVO 2008. And it sucked because they completely disregarded the established rules of the time.

I mean, yeah, the rules for Brawl for the first year weren't all that great, but common sense would at least tell you to turn off Smash Balls. >_>

The relationship between the Smash community and EVO took a turn for the worse after that. Hopefully, they will have better judgment once Smash 4 comes around (if it will even be a main event).

I definitely think this would've made it, but the Salty Cupcakes stream started way too late.

All other game are played on default setting like SF4 = 2/3 round. Tekken is 3/5. SF4 is 99 seconds. SFxT allow gems. This all comes down to Smash creators not intending it to be competitive....

Oh I have nothing against Smash community I'm glad they donated it for charity. I just find it funny how much resources they had. They should have done this way earlier. For those that don't know Third Strike at one point didn't make EVO. So they gather and showed their unity and the following year Third Strike was back into EVO.

If Smash would have shown this in like 2008, 2009 by 2010 or 2011 they would have already been in the EVO lineup.

Same thing happened to the Guilty Gear community, but they didn't ban together and GG hasn't been in the EVO line up since.

It's GG that got kicked out of the lineup but fought their way back, not 3S. And there were a lot more incentives for the Smash community to split from the FGC than other games, mainly the consoles issue and also the fact that they were being disrespected despite being huge in numbers. The fundamental issue of respect still remains, if the EVO organizers don't respect the Smash community despite their hard work and treat them as second class citizens you can bet that this will be the last time the Smash community will reach out to EVO.
