EVO 2K13 Player's Choice: Donate money to breast cancer and get your favorite game in

it's just funny and weird to me that there is a really large group of players that would rather cobble together some bizarre frankenstein ruleset instead of playing a better game

Well, if you ask me, the ruleset was created because people genuinely liked Brawl and wanted to play it at a competitive level. They saw the value in playing the game in tournaments and didn't want to abandon it when they found it so much fun to play. I mean, there's a reason why there are many players playing this game at a competitive level: they find the game fun.

Well, there goes another $50 from me.

I still doubt Skullgirls will make it.
It will probably need another $15k to $20k to win, in less than 50 minutes.

Well, there's still that wobbling rule...

Anyways, Melee has my total support for getting into EVO despite the fact that I prefer Brawl over it.

Sorry about the salt, just still hadn't gotten over that whole most disappointing game of my life thing. It's cool though, now I know there is no reason to ever have faith in Nintendo. :)

There wasn't any. I just found it amusing. =P
I wonder how many different characters could be top tier if rules were adjusted to remove their weaknesses.

To be honest, this isn't the first time something like this has happened in a fighting game. Wasn't there some sort of roll thing in CvS2 that got banned?
I gotta admit that was never my series. I do know advancement in fighting game tech has shaken tier lists to their cores many times.

So would I, dude. So would I...
You should check out Project M, it's the best of both worlds.

I applaud their work on that, but I don't like what they did to the Brawl-exclusive characters.

As somebody who got sick of Brawl before I got good with any of the characters the fact that I essentially have half a roster of new characters is one of my favorite parts.

I never expected to love Diddy so much but he is amazing!
They actually gave them new moves and stuff not just change universal stuff.

I thought they did that in a few cases?

*edit*

Oh wait you acknowledged that and thought it was a negative. I'll just say I strongly disagree.

What else could they have done? It's not like they could have just left them as is, they'd get destroyed by the Melee characters.

I'm not talking about leaving them alone, haha. They took characters like Wolf and Pit and turned them into completely different characters. I think they could've benefited more from a Brawl+ route and adjusted their move properties a bit instead of trying to make them into something else entirely.

Uh...wouldn't the Melee/Smash community benefit the most from having this at EVO?

Skullgirls can have their little side tournament, I've had enough of that game being shoved in my face....and ST already had their tournament of legends last EVO.

Considering that Smash 4 is being co-developed with Namco, I have a lot of faith in how that game will turn out.

That was... not what I was referring to. Also, I prefer Brawl's overall gameplay to Melee's, so Project M never appealed to me. If I were to play with hacks, I'd just have the tripping turned off.

I thought Pit was fine considering they were trying to nerf the incredible recovery he has.
Lucario's new gameplay is so....what. It's fun but I felt it was pretty unnecessary.

Balanced Brawl maybe? That was pretty fun.

Yeah I liked the Lucario changes a lot, but at the same time I was asking myself if it was completely necessary.

Besides the change to his side-B, I mean. That was begging to be fixed from the start.

Somebody who enjoyed Brawl would have no reason to feel pessimistic about the next Smash.

I'll buy the new Smash game. I'll play through the campaign and prolly do some online play. I have absolutely zero faith that the game will be one I'll touch a year after release, much less a decade+. Here's hoping my expectations turn out to be wrong. It happened last time. =/

Fair enough. I can't help it, I can't resist pimping Project M at every chance I get. I've never played a hack before but good lord that is a solid one.

*Shrug*

To each their own.
I really like the new stuff. Especially what they did with Lucario and Wario.

Oh, fair enough, I misunderstood. I even like some of the changes to Melee characters, DK's new roll feels like it should have always been this way.

As far as I can tell Lucario was a bit of an experiment for the Project M team. I'd say it's interesting to say the least and gives him a unique mechanic (I didn't/don't really play him, though). He's pretty powerful with his new tools.

For their other characters, I am 100% behind the changes. The Pokemon especially... having that new move in the down+B slot is just awesome.

I get what they were trying to do with the Aura mechanic (being rewarded for failure isn't cool, kids) but maybe the rest of the changes were a little strange.

Well in Smash's case, it'd be rewarding good DI, so I never had a problem with the Aura mechanic in the first place.

All the other changes are awesome though. Wario's shoulder bash and the Pokemon trio are infinitely more fun than default Brawl to me.

this would be a great discussion for the weekly fighting games thread

I was more referring to not having to resort to hacks to turn it off. I'd much rather have it either taken away from Nintendo or have an option to turn it off in game. Hacks are cool and all, but I'd never take them seriously.

FUN FACT! Tripping is actually officially called "pratfalling" in Brawl.
