EVO 2K13 Player's Choice: Donate money to breast cancer and get your favorite game in

It can be rough having one of your game's most prominent players being unable to properly deal with social situations well.

You don't say?

Ah, I didn't listen too long, since it's what some were saying from the start.

They haven't done a Smash tournament in six years. He said himself that the idea scares him, as it should. The logistics to do a proper one are going to have them grinding throughout the whole weekend, likely.

I just called it a really good point because I think if they didn't approach running it with a hint of fear of messing it up, it would definitely be a crappy tournament for the Smash heads.

As long as TO from the smash scene step up, I'm sure they will delegate them power to run it.

EVO always run on worst case scenario anyways... so I wouldn't be worried too much.

Does anyone know if Smash is going to be one of the Sunday final games? It'd be a shame to a Saturday finals game with so much money already put in.

Really hard to tell. And quite frankly we won't know until July.

Chris G really digging a hole for himself.

Calling the donation drive a "gimmick" and that donators didn't even care about breast cancer.

ohhhh, a game they like? A good cause? Half of them care less about cancer, which is sad. It took a gimmick like evo to care now?

Fanatiq need to tell him to nog it off.

Good shit for Melee. I hope this opportunity gets utilized the best way possible. My hope is that word of this will get to the higher ups at Nintendo, and change Sakurai's mind about competitive play.

Triforce has been tweeting Nintendo all night long. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing for the Smash scene.

Wouldn't be surprised if this was the case for a lot of people to be honest.

Funny, I've made the same argument and no one got in my face about it. I can agree with what I'm seeing him say, though he shouldn't be too upset about it if he is.

Don't forget Harada/Namco is involved in the new Smash.

ChrisG is a total fuckhead.

Don't worry Smash & SG communities he just a greedy fucker that would rather the money go to him.

EAD ChrisG.

Well Chris should know better since he's a top player and you're you.

It's pretty obvious that this may have the been the case with a lot of people. But the point is, they found a way to donate a ton of money to a good cause. That's what the focus should be instead of the bitching that Chris G is doing right now which is really making him look like a asshole. Over 150k was just donated to breast cancer research and all he can do is bitch about how most of these guys aren't really apart of the community?

An unlikable player from New York. He started off in Smash and now plays Marvel.

He is also a total dick to his own scene won't go to casual meets and the like.

Pay no mind to him.

That's simply untrue. He supports Next Level's weeklies in a large capacity.

Absolutely.

To be honest it probably is the case, but that doesn't mean you should bring it up. Somethings are just better off not being said. Like if you're at a funeral of a guy who's an asshole, and you have nothing nice to say about him. Just don't say anything....

Rice-Eater hit it on the money. The most important thing out of all of this was the money raised for breast cancer awareness/research. That's the big picture.

It will be a real shame if the $80k SG raised doesn't convince the Evo folks that it deserves to get in as well.

Smash and SG both deserve it, and the SG comm would be so helped out by an Evo spot.

Skullgirls totally had the better drives and incentives.

It is super impressive they raised so much money, as the pool of players was probably a lot smaller. Great effort.

Well said.

Amazing night. Hopefully there are no donation dramas to follow.

He has absolutely no incentive to give people the opportunity to practice against him. He has more to lose than to gain.

It's also not a stretch in the slightest to suggest that the donation cause is secondary to getting the game of choice into Evo.

This much is true.

Congrats to Melee - you guys put up a hell of a fight.

And, really, we had a really good time with this - the team's already talking about doing this fundraiser again next year, Evo or not.
Battle well-fought sir. Good luck to Skullgirls going forward. I hadn't heard of it much until this drive to be honest. I don't really play fighting games much but might pick it up next time I turn on my 360. Got some points lying around and I might as well see what all this hype was about :)

Probably? It is certainly the case for anyone with any strong attachment to the games. The amount of money raised wasn't a measurement of the FGC's generosity, but rather the result of having two or three games that really wanted to get in. Had two of the other serious contenders dropped out early, then we would have seen a much smaller number from the winner.

EDIT: Don't forget the incentives popping up as the donation drives heated up.
