House of Cards - S1 on Netflix - Spacey & Fincher - *UNMARKED SPOILERS FOR ALL OF S1*

Watched 15 minutes. Looks interesting.

Really hope this does well.

It wouldn't show up on the Netflix app in Windows 8 so I had to start it in the browser and carry on from there for some reason.
 
Episode 1
I'm feeling hungry today! Loving this character though. He had that zoned out video game stare down pat. There's going to be some excellent gifs made out of this series. Some of his reactions were just priceless.

The opening scene drew me in and the ending scene had me wanting to start the next episode immediately. The 56 minutes went by quick and I found myself engrossed throughout the whole episode. Kevin Spacey is an excellent lead and no complaints about any of the rest of the cast. I definitely recommend the show to anyone waiting to jump on subbing for it.
 
I'm not too far into the first episode, but I liked how they handled Kevin Spacey getting a text..it was a neat little effect. I'm also enjoying the dark tone, and his monologues even if they catch me off guard sometime.

watched the first episode. oh my! great atmosphere (the music :o), spacey is amazing, hbo-esque pacing and full of loads of political intrigue and the relationship between politicians and the press (ala my beloved state of play) which are topics i looove. the direction was expert too, i could tell it was fincher, the use of night time lit by bright electric lights and very clean, modern designs in the set reminded me a lot of his girl with the dragon tattoo.

kinda want to spend all day drowning myself in it, though the atmosphere and the heavy style used for how underwood is written and acted seems like it'd be too rich for me to enjoy just binging on so i might take it slower than i expected.
 
So this is what an episode of TV looks like when it has final cut control from one of the best directors in the world. Someone on this page as already said it, but really there's no word more apt to describe Spacey's performance than magnetic. The double looks he gives the camera when he's discussing education with Vasquez are flawless.

Fucking love it. It allows the director to hold a shot instead of having to cut into a stupid close up of the phone screen, while still communicating the received message to the audience.

seriously. this. it's amazing.

if this is good all the way through and successful, i'm really excited to see the talent that can be lured into tv with this model as the carrot. tv is pretty fucking great already even with all the difficulties, giving such talented people the freedom to properly craft a ten hour story like this, good god.
 
Just finished the first episode, one helluva show. I was worried that a Netflix funded show would be aped or neutered in some ways, but this show could've been on HBO easily. You would expect a political show to be dry, but for this I'm thoroughly entertained and interested for every scene.

Spacey is incredible, as always, but this role fits his acting strengths perfectly. The rest of the characters were cast pretty well and all the characters have a very human element to them, Fincher and the writers realized that there are real breathing people in politics, and that's easily seen in this show.

is hilarious. Very exciting for Netflix that they got this and Arrested Development under it's wings, House of Cards is a fantastic start for Netflix's original programming. Watch this show if you've enjoyed the best dramas in the past decade.
 
Loving that the episodes end without major cliffhangers. They could easily have ended each episode before resolving the main story line, instead you actually get another 10m of content. Feels so satisfying to watch an episode that doesn't end abruptly. In fact, the biggest difference for me so far is that while I could watch the whole season in a single go, I actually don't need to. Unlike with regular tv shows, I'm not being denied the conclusion in order to tune in next week. Which to me seems like the man reason I would watch other shows in a go.

Hopefully this keeps up.
 
5 episodes watched...glorious. They really knocked it out of the park. It'll be hard not to plow through the rest of the show tomorrow, which I probably will anyways.
 
I recently watched the UK version, is this one still worth watching? It's 13 episodes instead of 4, so I assume it entails a lot more than the UK House of Cards, how closely does this follow the original? Anyone here that has seen both?

did sony sponsor the show for overall product placement then? there's a ps3 controller and killzone 3 shown in episode 1. which is notable given that most american gamers would have an xbox and call of duty.
 
Netflix is offering a free preview of the first episode to anyone and everyone this weekend at http://www.netflix.com/houseofcards

Also, Microsoft waived the Gold requirement to use their Netflix app. If you have a Netflix subscription but do not have an XBL Gold subscription, you should still be able to dig into House of Cards this weekend.
 
Just started episode 3 and I am loving this so far. I think Netflix has a sure thing on there hands and the show being this good, I'm glad they released every episode at once. The way frank pulls strings doesn't seem to over the top and outlandish and his presence is just amazing how he can play slow to appeal yet his confidence can even sway the crazy. This is probably my character of the year right here as far as television goes. Hopefully the rest of the season can match as this has my attention far more than lilyhammer did.
 
 
This will be watched tonight. Is this really adult? F bombs, nudity, lots of sex? Something compared to Showtime or HBO? Gauging the audience I should watch this with. :P

It's very adult, yes. Not a whole lot of cursing, nudity, or sex through the first two episodes, but all three are present (though tastefully done) and there are plenty of other dark moments. Definitely think HBO or Showtime. Show has been excellent so far, BTW.

I had time to watch the first 25 minutes before leaving for work this morning and so far there has been one F-bomb and two breasts (briefly). Make of that what you will. I'm getting a "Game of Thrones in Washington" vibe so far. Liking it.
 
Hearing that it's very Fincher is all I need to convince me to watch it. Also it seems like you can watch the premiere without having a Netflix account. Good move on their part.
