And this points out another huge problem with Te'o's story that I keep forgetting about. He was telling stories like this and other weird embellishments way before he was supposed to know that Lennay didn't exist. Why was he never concerned that either a member of Lennay's family or a friend would hear these stories and expose them as bullshit if he actually believed at the time that she was a real person with a life of her own?

Because he's not very bright. I honestly don't think he expected to story to blow up the way it did.

I don't think that he did either but once the story did blow he continued to tell inconsistent stories about her life and how involved they were. I thought in the beginning that he was just retelling the lies that RT fed to him but if you look at the different stories that he told diferent reporters over time it was almost like he was making stuff up on the spot.

I do agree with you now that he's not as smart as I thought he was. I thought that ND's tradition was not to recruit idiots to bolster their program but now I don't know what to believe.

This stuff happened after she was supposedly dead. Any crazy stuff he was saying about her before the media picked up on the story wouldn't have ever made it back to her if she had been real.
 
I had a guy do this to me once.. I didnt get in as deep as this at all obviously. The guy made up a fake aol screen name and would send me messages, acting like a girl, trying to get me to send pictures and all that. I never went through with it all because the person was very sketchy even through IM's.

I remembered the screen name because it was an odd one. so fast forward like a year or so and the person still trying to talk to me online and keep a casual convo . I go up to hang out with my boy and some of his friends that he knew. while at the house everyone is hanging out, and I go to check my email while everyone is getting ready, so I go to sign in to AOL and i see the friends normal AOL sign in name, but i had to click the guest sign so it showed all of his other screen names, and there it was, the screen name that was always hitting me up trying to talk and get naked pics from me. I damn near fell out the chair and didnt know what to do or say for what seemed like a lifetime.

I didn't hear anything about the story until after his grandma and "girlfriend" died and I usually follow college football pretty closely. Were there already media stories about her when she was supposed to be just sick?

Eh, your friend took things pretty far but it's not all that unusual. If I cut off every friend who made a drunk advance towards me over the years I wouldn't have too many friends left. Either human sexuality is a lot more complicated than just gay or straight or maybe I'm just that hot. I prefer to believe the latter ;)

nah I know Malleymal is a big dude. I've had a couple (straight) white friends who have tried to get dick picks from me in very awkward, weird ways - often while drunk or in passing jest - and I know some other guys who have had the same experience.

Jeez, I didn't mean to make it sound like two things were the same but re-reading what I posted it definitely came across that way. I meant that dudes harboring secret man-crushes on their close friends isn't unusual and it seems like a lot of people think that's what at the root of the Te'o/RT situation. What Malleymal's friend did to him is pretty insane and I'm not sure what I would have done in that situation.

My older brother told me once that he discovered that one of his close buddies stole one of his private sex tapes. Since the friend had no way of knowing which girls were on the tape he concluded that the friend wanted to see him. That also would have been a friendship breaker I think.

Yeah, I'm a 6'6" Jamaican and I've definitely experienced curiosity like that but it seems to come from a lot of different groups, my white friends just seem a little less uptight about it.

I can't remember how we got on the subject but one of my white co-worker friends once told me that if we were in prison that he'd want to be my prison bitch. I just kind of laughed but that was pretty awkward lol.

I never encountered this type of thing, but to be fair I'm pretty oblivious when woman show sexual interest so maybe I missed it. If a friend stole a sextape of me and my gf, that would be grounds to end the friendship in my mind. Regardless of who in the tape he wax actually interested in

Well I hope that I'm not the only one that this has happened to because then I'm going to assume that I've been the one sending out mixed signals all these years.

One of my close friends in high school told me point blank that he had feelings for me and I never spoke to him again. I still feel guilty about that to this day, I just hope that I didn't scar him for life.

Yeah, I kinda agree with this.

When you put it like that, I get the feeling that he may have tried to kill two birds with one stone: cover-up his embarrassment (which means he has to perpetuate the lie) and take advantage of the opportunities (publicity) afforded to him because of the hoax.

But....to do that (continue to exploit the story for personal gain) is absolutely insane. SOMEWHERE along the line, someone's gonna find out, especially if he's blabbing about it on national TV.

I officially don't know what to think anymore, lol

I immediately thought he was at that point, and didnt want to make a scene about it with all of our friends there, so I put it in the back of my mind and went about the night. and actually went on a couple weeks not saying anything, since he didnt write me back. I even told myself that it was one of his family members that logged in on his computers to make me feel better about the whole thing. that was until i got another message about a month later and thats when i basically wrote him back and let him know that I know who this is...

I know it caught him off guard because i could see the "user is typing" prompt going crazy and he wasnt sending anything. then it was a simple "can i call you" he called me and let me know what happened apologized and said that he was having issues with himself. He was at a low point and I think that is what made me more understanding about everything. Its crazy how I suppressed the whole thing deep down in my subconscious for the last couple years, and just remembered it after all this.

Manti Te'o is either an extremely dumb pathological liar or an extremely gay liar desperately trying to protect his image. I think it's the former given what we've seen, I would think more would be uncovered if he actually was gay.

This story gets stupider and stupider. So now the man behind it was doing a woman's voice the whole time and that other woman who claimed to be the voice before was just lying? And now the man behind it has admitted to being gay? Took long enough for homosexuality to enter the "official story" but I think there might be one step left to go.
 
So he admits to being gay and said that it was his voice despite reports saying that it was his female cousin and other relatives confirming that. I'm thinking RT is being cornered into taking the blame by the Te'o family.

Why didnt Teo go visit to love of his life when she was dying of cancer and only a few hours away, why does Teo claim they met in 2009 but he sent her a tweet saying nice to meet you in 2011, why would RT's cousin lie about being the voice on the phone and her family back her up, why not release the real phone records. There is so much still unanswered about this mess.

Teo is gay. Unfortunately if it got, it would probably end his career, so this is a cover up of a cover up... or something.

Way back I thought you guys on the "Te'o is gay?" angle were way off, but now I'm 50/50 and was probably wrong the whole time.

It's pretty sad, the lengths they're going to just to keep it a secret. Unfortunately for Te'o this dude won't come off of being the one on the phone. Makes me wonder if he's trying to pressure Te'o into a public admission.

Because he's a gay man from a conservative background, and his family thought that that lie might be enough to spare them the embarrassment from him being outed. That'd be my guess, anyways.
 
curious why he would do the voice if they are both gay? was it a cover for other people on the off chance that they would hear the messages or something?
