Microsoft making at least four new IPs

Some of you are either trying to twist the intent of my post or misunderstanding it completely. Of course I don't actually want them to fail, I clearly stated that I enjoyed their products and the basis of my feeling lies completely without logic. However, it'd be interesting to see the reaction that their fanclub here would take if their object of idolization were to collapse on itself, and I'd be lying if I said their misery wouldn't sustain me somewhat, even though I'd lose out on a metric ton of future quality games as well.

I remember feeling the same way around the time that the Dreamcast was dieing off , and Sega was going third party and Sony fans were pointing their fingers and laughing about it.

I'm not so sure now.

Senior Level Designer posting:

First person or third person? Or maybe a hybrid?

Senior Gameplay SDE

Action game is ambiguous to say the least.

Very intriguing, really looking forward to seeing what they come up with. Wonder if they are using UE4 or will they go with their own engine.

Sorry, I want to have a discussion about the topic and not quick responses to the headline. I don't think it's too much to ask here.

this. because of "funny" replies you have to scan through pages of garbage to read something interesting about the discussed topic.

Witcher 3 exclusive may be one of the surprise MS has in store.

what happened is people hating

and then people hating on the hating

That wouldn't be an exclusive as it would still be on PC and made for PCs first. Possibly at least, TW2 was pretty geared for consoles already.

Just hope they are aimed at the mature market instead of childish stuff. Need more dark and gritty.

Kinect tennis.
Kinect of war
Kinect Halo
Kinect we couldn't think of another name.

Probably this. What I would like to see is maybe something from Rare (if there is any life left to them) or something truly original and unique, but it will probably be just a ton of Kinect/casual games, or at the very best a bunch of dudebro mass market games that were focus tested to hell.

For me at least, before I jump on board with the next Xbox I need MS to make me a believer in the Xbox brand again, because for the last few years they have stifled creatively and rested on their laurels without seeking improvement in their 1st party offerings.

I'm hoping for a mix of both. There are so few family friendly "real" games out there that something like Kameo or Ratchet would be nice to see.

Leaked gameplay picture.

While not a new IP, another Banjo game would be awesome. Even if it's an improved Nuts and Bolts. Dark and gritty doesn't mean good especially MS' definition of it which is basically "bro shooter".

I wonder what next-gens Kameo is going to be.

Who gives a shit about Microsoft IPs. They've proven they don't care about anything other than Halo, Gears, Fable and Forza. Why this would matter to anyone is beyond me

I'd like to see at least one more Sakaguchi game for one of the next gen consoles, but that ain't gonna happen. :/

GAF leans towards Sony, that's perfectly fine, so don't expect miracles. Before this thread it was a 'MS has no 1st parties' shit fest (no wonder considering the current output) now apparently they have 'something' - and it's a 'dudebro kinect' shit fest.

Trolling in disguise becomes just a bit more obvious.

MS is damned if they do, damned if they don't.

That was last generation, though. Rumor is that MS is pushing new IP again.

What's wrong with games for all ages?

I'll even like something like a Conker sequel, but those games are kind of immature. Maybe for XBLA.

Don't worry! That's microsoft's thing. That's why I didn't buy a Nintendo lol, I didn't want to jump on turtles go down green tubes and eat shrooms as a plumber(and Zelda is squandered by a bright color palette and hope and justice always wins with no cost or sacrifice. It should be darker and more mature). These new IP's will likely be a good mix. Something for everyone(except the kiddies, that's for Nintendo). A third person shooter, a first person shooter, a fantasy RPG, and a racing game. That's what they did last time and I'm very confident they'll give the goods again.

I could definitely jive with their attempt at a full blown horror game, or an awesome story driven experience like heavy rain was.

Maybe all this last years they were secretly working on kickass new IPs for the 720, have a little faith!

why would MS be giving the benefit of the doubt? if anything they've proven they don't care about video games and are just going to provide whatever the hot new game is while getting more pointless apps no one cares about.

The best exclusive Microsoft has is hbo go. They'll all get Kameo'd anyway when they don't sell 3 million.

Halo Wars sold 2 million and they still refuse to make a sequel. None of these games will last unless they're boring generic FPS.

This post is brilliant.

For people joking about all shooters, read this:
Microsoft Studios is looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced Design Director (also called Creative Director in many companies) with proven creative and leadership ability to work with external developers on Microsoft’s core titles (including shooters, RPGs, action/adventure, etc.). The Design Director’s mission is to support our experienced development partner’s creative vision and to ensure that the product’s ultimate quality is “first-party” -a wonderful experience only possible via the partnership between Microsoft and the developer. The Design Director has access and influence on platform hardware (e.g. consoles, peripherals, etc.) and system shell & back-end technology unlike anywhere else in the industry, and it’s the creative use of these tools that enable partners to create their best games ever.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create compelling, innovative experiences from scratch.
- Collaborate and work closely with the MS leads and external partners to ensure AAA, “first-party” quality.
- Provide concrete and actionable feedback to external developers/teams.
- Advocate for, pitch, and drive a game’s vision internally and externally.
- Own the design relationship between Microsoft and the external partner.
- Use feedback from personal play-throughs, usability, and gameplay studies to improve the game in a meaningful way.
- Inspire, motivate, and mentor other designers in best practices, processes, and creative techniques.
- Help to develop level layouts, game flow, overall balance and general “first-party” experiences which fit the game.
- Be prepared and comfortable working directly in the tool suite to prototype ideas, lay out levels, or tune systems

QUALIFICATIONS:
- 12 + years minimum industry experience.
- Minimum of 3 Shipped AAA titles.
- AA/BA/BS preferred.
- Familiarity with engines and common designer tools: Unreal, Unity, CryENGINE, etc.
- Passion for the industry and an understanding of market trends and styles.
- Have a proactive work ethic, capable and creative problem solver who is not afraid of big challenges.
- Have a strong ability to multitask, following through on a wide variety and number of tasks from inception to completion.
That position is already filled.

Halo Wars didn't get a sequel because the studio that made it didn't exist to make one for it.

I hope one of those IP's is a hardcore third person shooter. MS does need their own flagship TPS game. A direct competitor to SOCOM.

Are you seriously this upset over users pointing out their disillusion with MS as of late? I think you need to relax and maybe take a break from NeoGAF/the Internet for some time.

I know you're trying to write in acceptable english and everything but do you honestly think this post helps? First you as someone if they are upset (U MAD?), bring up "disillusion with MS" (which is part of the point of contention in the first place), then tell him to relax (on the internet no less). Has this ever worked for you in any argument/conflict situation? Posts like this stoke the fire, deliberately or not, and that's what gets tiring after a few pages.

Anyways, it looks like MS is getting back into launch worthy shape. Their first parties have been quiet for a long time so I'm sure they have something but isn't Black Tusk brand new (started Nov 2012)? I doubt they'll have a game ready for launch in a year. Also I don't think Kinect 2 being integrated with core games is a bad thing... maybe a little risky.

hai guise cud it be a kinetic shootbang gaem ???

It's probably:
Black Tusk Studios project
Lionhead project
Something from Rare

So let me get this straight.

Your problem with MS is that all they make are a bunch of sequels to successful franchises.

And your problem with MS is that they won't make a bunch of sequels to these new franchises.

And your problem with MS is that they failed to make a sequel to a successful franchise.

Lots of thin skin in here. I like the instant assumption that anyone making a joke must be a Sony fanboy and not a Nintendo or PC one. Haha.

I'm hoping for a mix of both. There are so few family friendly "real" games out there that something like Kameo or Ratchet would be nice to see.

Very much agreed here. I'm generally not interested in anything extremely gritty/mature like God/Gears of War, but I'm also not interested in strictly casual titles either. Franchises like R&C and Kameo or Banjo are generally more appealing to me. Not enough of those to go around these days.

Could be some of these :

More next-gen speculation to throw your way. Microsoft has registered a set of names for game software, leading many to believe these could be next-gen new IPs.

Marlow Briggs, Fusion: Sentient and Gunpowder are three names registered all within days of each other.

Each of the trademarks describe the trademarks only as "game software", while Fusion: Sentient and Gunpowder both have the additional description of "Entertainment services, namely, providing an on-line computer game".

Gunpowder could be a sequel to decent Kinect game (apparently they do exist) Gunslinger.

Because this says 4 NEW IPs. That would mean 4 new games that aren't Halo, Gears, Fable and Forza....

which is why I said I wonder what next gens Kameo is going to be. Or did you just conveniently skip that part?

Maybe all this last years they were secretly working on kickass new IPs for the 720, have a little faith!

Hard to have faith when they've ignored games that I actually liked just to shove more shitty Fable games in our face.

Halo Wars didn't get a sequel because the studio that made it didn't exist to make one for it.

Robot Entertainment has a lot of ex-Ensemble guys and were willing to work on a sequel. Microsoft even had them support Halo Wars for awhile until they decided to drop support entirely on it.

Not to mention they could always just get a new developer.

Microsoft clearly set their mind on not making a sequel, why would they create a entire studio to make one?
