Microsoft making at least four new IPs

Actually no... blame the self-defense mechanism of Sony enthusiasts for that.

Sony enthusiasts who should be spending their time buying and supporting the great Vita handheld instead of drilling "Kinect, casual, ads, charging for XBL" into the minds of people at GAF who have largely already made up their minds on each subject.

lol jesus. chill dude. you seem nervous.

Trolls will exist no matter what but the number of people unhappy is a result of their decisions. Would these threads be filled with the posts people are whining about if MS didn't charge for online, put ads on a pay service or focus on kinect stuff? Nope.

Yes, trolls would find something else. That's how trolling works. Especially when the company in question decimated Sony's marketshare this gen. Using those same exact things you just listed.

Even Sony enthusiasts crap on the lack of content on the Vita

I wish playstation fans would buy the games in large numbers instead of bashing ms all day. Btw I love both consoles.

Sony GAF doesn't equal the entire world.

If all forum warriors bought all the games they hype this industry would be better off.

Also I don't know if you've heard of it but there's this game H-Hour being developed by SoF studios. There isn't much info on it other than I think a few of the guys were part of the Socom 1 and 2 teams.

Holy shit. From what I'm reading right now, this sounds exactly like Socom. I'll look more into it. Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, of course.

That would be strange since they'd be complaining about things that didn't exist.

Your problem is lumping everyone who has a legit complaint about the way MS does things as a troll.

not to backseat mod, but the level of base trolling in almost every micrsoft thread makes it very hard to have a normal and fruitful discussion.

it's always kinect this, ads that, gold this, casuals that. it's tiring.

So it's the same talking points as Microsoft's Xbox related press conferences then. What's your problem?

The same studio made Crackdown 2.

That said, Crackdown 2 deserved a larger budget. Most disappointing game this gen.
I didn't realize that Realtime Worlds became Ruffian Games despite still releasing APB the same week as Crackdown 2 under the name Realtime Worlds.

Hiring a few Realtime Worlds staffers onto a developer headed up by other people to turn out a sequel isn't exactly a commitment.

Maybe MS should have followed Sony's lead, where they greenlighted InFamous 2 and purchased Sucker Punch after the success of the first, resulting in an all around superior sequel with true first party commitment behind it.

Many of us have been saying they'd be doing this for launch for ages now.

But no, only Sony apparently worries about new IPs and exclusives.

Yep, the next gen consoles wars have started.

As OP shows, it's ONE product manager overseeing four new IPs. That doesn't mean there aren't other product managers overseeing other new IPs.

Last of Us, Tearaway, Beyond: Two Souls, just to name a few..all new IPs..

Those where announced last year, for all we know this new 4 ips could launch before the end of december.

It's been hammered to death into people's skulls that Microsoft only stopped with offering a diversified IP lineup at retail because they didn't need to in Years 6-8 because the dividing lines had already been set and they were riding Kinect momentum at that point. They already HAD the hardcore market locked down. They didn't need to blow a bunch of money on a bunch of new IPs that were then failed to be marketed properly like Sony. It was a conscious decision.

So we should all be enthusiastic about another MS system knowing that as soon as they've got us locked down as their consumer they'll stop trying to cater to us at all?

That's some serious fucking Stockholm Syndrome you've got going on man. I don't give a shit about their bottom line, I give a shit about how many good games I'll get to play throughout the life of the console. 3rd party games are everywhere, first party is where you differentiate the options.

So reading between the lines here what you're really saying is "I talked out of my ass, got that pointed out to me, and now instead of admitting it I'm gonna make a thinly veiled fanboy claim."

Yeah, it is real clear that the next gen cycle is starting when people can't handle facts being point out to their dumb asses.

The worst thing about it all is the almost PR filled replies, like they are outright trying to sell you things. I mean, look at how they position their stories, none of it sounds balanced or take in account the good and bad things from all perspectives. It's more disturbing actually.

Yeah. MS should stick to throwing out IPs nobody cares about like:

Kakuto Chojin, Blinx, Brute Force, and Quantum Redshift!

YEAH!

I got plenty of 1st party and third party exclusives on my 360. Maybe return yours to the store, there might be something wrong with it.

PR guy from MS responded, no new news it seems.

I can only speak for myself, but between Fez, Dust, Halo 4, Minecraft and Trials, I felt well catered for last year. I also plan to pick up Forza Horizon when my backlog is down to an acceptable level.

Microsoft seems to be in a reactionary phase...which is not looking good because it means they don't have a plan.

Polygon article said they were prepared for Sony to announce first and they will just go with their plan and announce in a couple of months.

i find it amusing how giddy some people on this forum get over the words "new IP" when we know precisely jack shit about the games in question. but it's new so it must be good, right guys?

What exactly do you mean by "us"? I have had plenty to play on my 360 last year. And "Stockholm syndrome" ? Is that a fucking joke or what? Maybe it's hard to believe but some people DO prefer the games on the 360, just as there are those that prefer the games on the 360. Here is something that will really blow your mind, some people don't really care about whether or not a game is third party or first. They just like good games! Wild, huh?

So seeing as between first and third party games, both in retail and XBLA has kept me with plenty of games to play over the last few years, i'd say they are very much catering to me.

Is that really any different from shitting on it without knowing anything? But it's MS so it must be a Dudebro Kinect dance shooter, right guys?

Okay my bad I may have overreacted when I first saw that tweet. My question to that tweet is why would MS be busy in the last 24 hours after Sony's annoucement? It sounded like MS was scrambling to do something to respond to Sony's announcement.

1. FYI, I was responding to a post trying to rationalize a lack of core gamer focused retail releases over the last several years, why not try to keep shit in context?

2. How many great retail exclusives have you gotten in the last three years? Because if you aren't a fan of Kinect all MS has published in that time frame has been Gears of War 3, Halo 4, and two Forza games.

Yeah. MS should stick to throwing out IPs nobody cares about like:

Kakuto Chojin, Blinx, Brute Force, and Quantum Redshift!

How about Crackdown, MechAssault, actually making use of the MechWarrior franchise instead of giving it away, doing something worthwhile with Shadowrun instead of giving it away, making a console follow up to Freelancer, maybe try to fix the Perfect Dark franchise, a Killer Instinct game, etc. etc..

MS has or had worthwhile IPs. They let two good ones go when they dropped FASA and generally ignore the rest. They aren't committed to growing that library and servicing their core fans, their actions have repeatedly shown that to be true. Why wouldn't people feel jaded after seeing the difference in exclusives over the last several years put out by Sony and MS respectively?

It's not that, the lack of new original ips is something that people bash Microsoft for. Even though it's very risky to do in the end of a platform circle. And makes little sense.

I'm pretty sure we will see a bunch of new ips this new gen.

Do you have a hard time understanding the written word? Is context something you fail to grasp the meaning of?

I quoted a person who was trying to defend MS walking away from delivering new retail IPs for over three years of the Xbox 360's lifespan simply based on it not being a good financial move for them. In short rationalizing that MS' profits really should matter more than us having good games to play, that once MS has a consumer locked up they have no need to cater to them ever again.

A slavish devotion and defense of the entity who has you in their metaphorical clutches. Sounds like a solid analogy for Stockholm Syndrome to me.

The tweet was nothing more than speculation by Andy, who works for GI, not for MS.

Wow. hahaha

I don't care about new IPs if they're not good.

Usually though, Ms' (either first party or third party exclusive) new IPs are good.

This gen we've had: Kameo, Viva Pinata, Alan Wake, Gears, Crackdown, Nuts and Bolts (it's Banjo, but in a new form), Horizon (same as Nuts and Bolts, you can consider it a new game or not). Maybe even Halo Wars can be put in this list.

And some really good XBLA: Shadow Complex, Fez and many, many more.

Even Kinect exclusives are good. Kinect Sports and Dance Central are polished and fun party games, no one can deny that.

Let's hope these new IPs are traditional games. I'm pretty sure they are, since I don't think they're that stupid. But given Ms' recent track record, it's better to remain at least a bit skeptic.
