Yeah, that 250$ handheld that no one is buying. I'm pretty sure Iwata is still crying on his desk for not following Sony and release something like it.
If Vita had Animal Crosing and NSMB and Monster Hunter. I think the sales would be quite different brah.
But a it makes so much more sense for one giant widescreeen touchscreen.

The touch screen on 3DS is useless because using it as a primary game display is obviously never gonna happen. Old DS games could switch between the screens and it was fine, now you don't want to be looking away from the vastly superior top screen. The dual screens is a relic that serves no purpose. It's just another example of 3DS being a poorly thought out product.

It would sell better, but remember that price is important here too. Expensive dedicated handhelds era is over.

Sony has not release much at all for it or pushed it since it's launch. I'm guessing they are waiting for a tied relaunch with the PS4 this year. Holding back content before blowing their load. Have you seen Killzone on Vita??

Guy. The poster you responded to wanted Nintendo games on a Vita type hardware. One screen HD etc. You said "ohhh cause vita is selling soo good". Obviously it would be selling good with Mario Kart Vita, NSMB Vita, Animal Crossing Vita, etc. Well in Japan anyway.
Handhelds are probably on life support anywhere else.

Yeah, as far as being a portable that I would take on a train or a bus or otherwise just throw in my pockets, the Vanilla 3DS borders on too big, I couldn't imagine it any larger personally. If I need a bag to carry it around I'll just take my vita.

You'll be mocked for mentioning the Vita, but it would be great to see Nintendo go with powerful hardware. As Sony found out with the vita though, the market is dead to expensive gaming handhelds. Smartphones have driven down the price of mobile games and they provide an almost endless supply of entertaining enough games.
The DS audience that loved brain age and Nintendogs has move on to angry birds and words with friends on their phones.

He was saying something like Vita is what Nintendo should have done, implying there'd be some economic benefit to doing so. Oftentimes many gaffers look at things from a fanboy perspective of what'd be cool, but Nintendo is a corporation and there is a reason why their products are the way they are. It doesn't always pan out smoothly but if Iwata ran his company the way NeoGAF would like him to, Nintendo would be out of business or peddling out cheap iOS crap.

but if he's actually talking about the 3DS type of 3D then yeah I agree with him, that 3D is just a silly gimmick (which i like admittedly) and isn't really exciting for the market at all

Matter of fact is that vita does not have that games and the big hd (vita isnt hd btw) touchscreen did not help its sales like people indicating here

Not to mention nothing like the hardware in the Vita was available when the 3DS was being designed. Nintendo initially was working with Nvidia to get a version of the Tegra chipset running for the 3DS, but Nvidia couldn't deliver anything power efficient enough.

3DS was just as expensive as the Vita. Sony just hasn't dropped the price yet.
I would rather Nintendo have invested the money in a more powerful console with a better screen and better thought out controls then just a DS with 3D.

I think if they had it to do over again, the 3DS would just be the DS2. It would be a more powerful DS with a single analog nub. I think they realized shortly after release that 3D wasn't as big as they thought it was.

I agree. The 3DS as a design is terrible. It's been out long enough that it has good games and it validates it's existence, but whoever designed the hardware should feel shame, and I bet it was the assclown you mentioned who insisted on such a reductive, stale design.
If you hate Iwata and Nintendos policies so fucking much why not abandon them???
You obviously don't like anything they do as of late unless it involves 'wave race' 'starfox' and 'game controller'

I'd agree that design wise the 3DS is quite poor.
No 2nd stick, different screen ratios, broken clamshell that scratches screens, a 3D screen which is clearly a fad, weksauce CPU, etc...

Sony can't drop the price yet. They haven't sold enough to reach production levels that make it any cheaper to produce. The 3DS is currently sold at a profit despite the steep price drop. 3D and the lack of a second analog stick were probably not worth the required sacrifices, but hindsight is always 20/20.
I'm not gonna be bullied away! There are good people at Nintendo who want to make awesome games but are being railroaded by Miyamoto to make Pikmin and Wii Music. They'll get to their Yoshi's Island one day and I'll be there.

Sucks for Iwata but if Nintendo's having trouble it's good they're willing to take drastic consequences. It's not like Sony/Microsoft where their games division can hemorrhage money and they can just be like 'oh well, we'll get em next time'. They have to make a profit. Convince me to buy a Wii U Nintendo!
