Then why no official credit? You got a source on that? :) I assume it's a contractual agreement of some kind, it's not unheard of.

Yeah probably union shit. It was a big deal at the time, I always heard it was a million.

I saw Side Effects, was totally with it until the last 15 minutes or so...really rubbed me the wrong way and kinda unraveled it for me. I'd give it a B- or so, worth seeing for the greatness leading up to it.

Also, I'm hearing Identity Thief is absolutely atrocious. Yikes.

Hey expendable, what's wrong with the last 15 minutes? Overall story and pay off,or just general direction it takes to get there?

Without going into spoilers, it felt rushed, misdirected, poorly acted and not cohesive with what came before it. There's a great number of twists in the film and I was with every one and intrigued at what they may lead to, until this certain point where it just kind of loses all its steam in a short amount of time. But yeah, better to save this for spoiler talk after everyone has seen it.

Still, quite glad I saw the film but was just overall disappointed, especially considering how Soderbergh has been on such an incredible streak for me (as in, pretty much loving his last five narrative films).

I saw Side by Side. It was good but there were so many more people to be interviewed that would be more relevant in that discussion

Saw Lost in Translation again. Was my girlfriend's first time seeing it; she didn't like it so much. I sort of feel like that's a very "growing up around that time" kind of movie. Always had a bit of nostalgia associated with that film.

even if that wasnt your experience the movie tricks you into getting nostalgic over stuff. It has a very slow, hazy and sort of "longing" feel about it. Its easy to see through it but its still a great film. I love it.

I don't think its appeal is at all tied to when it was released/set.

Green Lantern : People say the Amazing Spiderman was aggressively mediocre, but Green Lantern was offensively mediocre. It felt like a shitty mid 90s super hero movie. In Wrasslegaf, I said it reminded me of The Mask. It also reminds me of Steel and Pearl Harbor.

There is for real nothing memorable about it. I can't even remember the plot points other than I know it escalated so quickly that it felt like a good 40 minutes were cut out of the movie. And it is a 2 hour movie. Hal went from getting the ring (and discovering that not only are humans not alone, but there is a universal police force made up of millions of different life forms that are powered by magical green rings) to saving the planet it about 2 days max. No one seemed to react very much when he used his powers for the first time and his girl got over it right away. But I guess we weren't really shown any reactions from the news or his family, so maybe they did react. No one seemed to think it was weird that Hector's head was getting to Barry Bonds level by the day.

Why was Sinestro such a dick to Hal? If the ring only chooses those who are worthy, then why did he think Hal was such a piece of shit? Dude should have had faith in the ring to have faith in Hal. The CGI was so blatant and bad. It was like Star Wars prequel levels. Distractingly bad and obvious the entire movie. I don't think there was a single CGI shot that didn't stand out like a sore thumb. You look at the CGI in a movie like Iron Man, which had a ton of CGI and smaller budget, and came out coming up on 5 years ago. Compare that to anything in Green Lantern. The dialog was so...I don't know the word I'm looking for. Generic? It's for real one of the least memorable major motion pictures I've ever seen. This is something you'd expect to have been playing on HBO all the time in 1997.

Green Lantern was a disaster. The CG. The plot. The suit. The villains. Most forgettable comic book movie - even more so than Cap, which at least had some charm...until they got to the base.

Watched The Miracle of Morgan's Creek tonight– wow! So she was r...and then she had...but they were all...That movie is subversive as hell, and I love it for it. The whole thing is certainly charmingly madcap throughout, some great slapstick and especially sharp remarks between Emmy and her dad, but the finale takes it to another level. Could not stop laughing. So this was my first Sturges, where do I go next? Library has every feature he directed outside of The French, just burn through those? Or are some of the films he wrote but didn't direct particularly worth a viewing?

Dredd

I cannot believe I decided it wasn't going to be good enough to see in theaters.

What is wrong with me?

I mean, I saw looper instead (which was still great) but I think this movie may have been better in theaters even if I prefer Looper overall.

Still the best straight up action movie I've seen in ages. 9/10

I saw Looper and Dredd on the theatre back to back same day

t'was a great day

Saw The Wind (1928).As someone who lives in a very windy and dusty place, I can understand the obsession a bit. Interesting relationship between some of the characters, the girl and her cousin in particular, as well as with Lile (her husband). That girl was beautiful and expressive. A bit conformist at the end, but still great silent film.

106) Flight 2012

I liked how it ended, manning up is honorable.

107) Trouble with the Curve 2012

Bob Gentry character really annoyed me. Glad he flopped

108) The Watch 2012

I thought this was a simple neighborhood watch movie, got much more I suppose lol. ok movie with its moments, want that weapon though :D

109) The Fog 1980

I had mentioned earlier in this page about the lack of carpenter, well they go this one. enjoyed it though

110) Butter 2011

I watched this just because the title and what it supposed to be about was so lol and corny + jennifer garner. It wasnt that bad really, also olivia wilde+ashley greene kissing was pretty nice :P

111) A bag of hammers 2011

Decent movie, but honestly who would fucking believe there would be valet service at a fucking funeral? lol. Also the ending felted rushed.

112) Scrooged 1988

rewatch. still good

113) Being John Malkovich 1999l

rewatch. That'd be awesome if something like this happened IRL :P

Argo

Better than "The Town", worse than "Gone Baby Gone".

Overhyped as fuck.

You're looking at your best picture, gents.

J/K it's Les Miserables

The Player - Man, that was awesome, from the very opening scene I was completely enthralled from beginning to end. This film probably has the best use of "references to other films" I've seen, simply because of how so in context it was with the actual setting of the film. The ending was also genius from a meta level as far I'm concerned, even if it's very much something I expected from the start.:p

Even if you didn't guessed from the beginning, the main character (Griffin) at some point (second third?) told someone (and us spectators) how the story would end.

Just watched Cabin in the Woods.

I went in completely blind, I didn't even know what the fucking genre was. It was pretty damn good.

spoiler:
For something so relentlessly violent and sometimes terrifying, it sure was funny as hell. I fucking lost it at the unicorn, holy shit lololol

The terms in your spoiler aren't mutually exclusive.

It's just so half assed. It felt like a movie that no one making it gave the slightest shit about, from the writers to the directors to the actors to the CGI studio to PAs to parking attendants on the lot.

watched Berberian Sound Studio last night

really enjoyed it, though I do recommend that you watch it with a decent 5.1 system

Just watched Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Liked it quite a bit. Had some pretty good performances. Didn't follow a lot of the typical romance tropes. At first I hated the narration, but it grew on me. Gave the movie this romantic novel feeling. It didn't always hold my interest, and some of the plot came across as corny definitely. Definitely made me want to visit Barcelona.

Haven't seen Midnight in Paris, but which do you guys prefer?

Midnight in Paris is much better. I liked VCB too.

Watched the first 2 films for the Coursera Film Course I posted about a few pages back. Street Angel and The Docks of New York; Both from 1928, both silent, both melodramatic romance movies but they couldn't be more different in terms of the world that is created on screen by the directors. I'm not at all familiar with silent movies from Hollywood so this was quite an interesting introduction.

The things talked about in the lectures provided extra insight into certain scenes and themes which was nice and informative.

Take Shelter - I thought this was a really good take on the nature of mental illness. Rather then using it as a cheap device to utilize for cliche suspenseful moments, it shows quite realistically how it directly impacts on your well-being, your relationship with family, co-workers etc. The repetitive nature of the film did start to bother me after a while, but the ending really makes the whole thing pay-off, and of course it's puts the nature of his illness in a interesting new context, which I thought was brilliant.
The third time around I noticed it even starts with a dream. One of my favorite story structured dramas, and of course, dat Michael Shannon.

Cabin Fever
Stands above so many imitations in such a weird but endearing way. Probably the inclusion of Dennis.

Finally saw Thats my Boy. It was a lot more twisted than i expected. Also watched Hanna. The movie was hands down just delightful and aesthetically pleasing.

The Palm Beach Story and Sullivan's Travels are the only other two I've seen. Feel like swoon and possibly a few others know their Sturges.

Man. I remember seeing this, and enjoying it. I can't remember anything about it now. It's so forgettable.

A View to a Kill

I still have about three movies left in the Bond series, but this definitely is my least favorite. Nothing about it is spectacular or very interesting. For being psychotic, Max Zorin's plan seems no more insane than Hugo Drax's plan in Moonraker or any of Blofeld's schemes in the past. Aside from the great theme song and title sequence, the only other thing I liked was Grace Jones and Christopher Walken's characters. Grace Jones as May Day is, in my opinion, very lovely in this movie and her character's relationship with Zorin was delightful in their scenes together. Regardless, neither element was strong enough to redeem this rather weak entry in the series.
