Rayman Legends coming to Xbox 360/PS3, all versions releasing in September

Wonder how that dumb Murphy stuff will work on controllers then.

Oh well, I'm happy I can buy the game now!

I'm teasing someone who thinks their one lost sale should weigh on Ubisoft in any way when Ubisoft now can sell their game to an install base orders of magnitude greater. You say every bit helps. Well no shit, that's why they're releasing to the huge install base of 360/PS3 rather than fretting over alienated WiiU owners.

It's a discussion board. I doubt any of us think our lone voices will have any effect upon Ubisoft but we're allowed to say that our disappointment at this treatment has dampened any enthusiasm to show Ubisoft any support.

I'll be picking it up in a bargain bin too. Could not care less if Ubisoft read that or not.

Holy shit at the delay. So much for Ubisoft having a good relationship with Nintendo as well.

It shows you how much the game selection is hurting on Wii U. Ubi was a staunch supporter of the Wii, they released like a hundred games for that thing (from Stump's post elsewhere) and were there for both Wii and Wii U launches...

... but this has clearly soured the very faithful. I sort of don't blame them. But at the same time I don't understand the people who are just going to completely write off the game in September – it still looks good.

I don't think GTA V will affect it much though. No one goes out to buy a cute 2D cartoon platformer and decides to buy a more realistic open world 3D crime drama instead. At least, I think...

Executive 1: "We probably won't make any money if we release a new, high-quality Rayman game on the Wii U during both a dry period of the year and weak console release lineup. How would people possibly get excited?"

Executive 2: "Right. I know! Let's release it later in the year, on multiple platforms! There's no way it will be ignored!"

Executive 1: "But doesn't GTAV come out around that time? Alongside new consoles and new big releases from Nintendo themselves?"

Executive 2: "Well, yeah. That's the point. Rayman's a piece of a shit and he'll die like one."

I'm all for more people playing Rayman Legends, but in terms of scheduling, this seems like a horrible decision. I wish the best for the game's sales, but I'm not confident.
-Have lack of faith in sales of Wii U version
-Announce multiplatform versions
-Blame Wii U version when all versions bomb

You are only thinking about yourself and not factoring in increased total sales for a multiplatform release.

Obviously, I don't know if one outweighs the other, but clearly Ubisoft believes the multiplat all at once option will yield better sales.

And I'm not arguing against that. I'm saying the time frame for releasing this game isn't very smart, but hey they can do what they want. I'd really like to see their sales expectations for this game.

I was really looking forward to buying Rayman in a few weeks, and in all honesty I don't know if I'll have time for it in the fall.

Ubi, port all you want. Put every game on every conceivable piece of hardware for all I care. Just please don't send games like this out to die.

Ubisoft didn't screw Nintendo, Nintendo screwed Nintendo.

As I mentioned to someone else, Nintendo has to take a lot of blame but the WAY Ubisoft handled this was very poor. They knew they would be porting it a long time ago it seems, yet they waited until 2.5 weeks before release to delay and announce the other releases?

Ubisoft screwed gamers looking forward to one of their products in less than a month.

That's an extremely narrow viewpoint of the situation. You could also say Ubisoft, to the joy of millions upon millions of console owners who don't own a Wii U, will now get to play and enjoy their game.

I guess the upside for Wii U only owners is this is basically confirmation that watch dogs will hit the system day and date as the other versions. I mean, if they listen to the fans like they are saying they do. Right? Riiiiight.

Ubisoft is not only screwing gamers that were looking forward to the game in a month, they are also sending the game to die by releasing it close to GTAV.
They are not competing.

One is a family game, another is an 18+ adult game.

Families will buy Rayman, teens will buy GTA and most adults have enough money to buy both if they want to.

You. Don't. Know. This.

Realistically, at what point do you think the Rayman Legends development team realized they needed seven months to work on the Wii U version?

If it was before the last few days, either the game was complete or they lied. Neither one is particularly good.

Yet another example of Nintendo's 3rd party incompetence. Do they even want the Wii U to succeed?

Please stop this bullshit! It's a goddamn resposibility of 3rd party's to help establish a bigger install-base as well, rather than just sit there and wait until something happens, especially during harware-launches, when all new consoles struggle!

People buy consoles to play GAMES! It's Ubisofts fucking resposibility as one of the early "supporters" of the Wii to be a part of those who PROVIDE those fucking games, so that people have an incentive to buy consoles. If you agree to being a early developer for a new console, then fucking stick with it!

You can do both you know.

It will sell more copies multiplat than it will just on WiiU. Sorry this bothers you!

You're pretty good at thinking the wrong thing. Never said I was bothered at the game being multiplatform, or the potential for higher sales with a wider audience.

I can see GTA V getting a cross-gen release for MS and Sony next-gen but can this be another title?

Assuming there's going to be a next-gen console in, let's say November 2013. Because I don't get these titles being pushed so far.

More like thousands and thousands.

Mainstream won't even notice this news.

15 pages and nobody has brought up the possibility that the design team wants to use the porting time to improve and expand the game.

Maybe, but who says Ubisoft wants to spend that much more money on the game? Besides, the game was practically finished already. Considering Origins was pretty technically polished and content-rich, I'd wager Legends was in a similar position. It'd be great if they did continue to work on the game for all platforms, but this may just be a port-job and the Wii U version won't be touched again.

Y'know this was pretty much my driving force in getting a WiiU early, and now not only is it coming much later but I didn't even need a WiiU to play it anyways.

Feels bad man. :(

Love Origins on PS3 in 1080p and this does not seem more demanding, or any other technical reason it NEEDS to be on the WiiU lol
PS3 and 360 can run this juuust fine so let them. Why are people mad/sad over this?

Im happy.

Because until this announcement, Rayman Legends was supposed to come out on Wii U this month. They're literally delaying a finished product until September.

That's an extremely narrow viewpoint of the situation. You could also say Ubisoft, to the joy of millions upon millions of console owners who don't own a Wii U, will now get to play and enjoy their game.

Sure. I have no illusions that Ubisoft was never going to port the game. Hell, I have said as much if you want to look in to older Rayman threads.

That does not excuse the delay for the Wii U version. What you call narrow, I call realistic.

Realistically, at what point do you think the Rayman Legends development team realized they needed seven months to work on the Wii U version?

If it was before the last few days, either the game was complete or they lied. Neither one is particularly good.

Or, completely plausible option 3:

The development team is given more time to work on all versions of the game, including the Wii U version, in concert with the internal decision to port to all platforms.

Every game has bugs. Every developer wants more time to work on their product.

Nothing wrong with porting the game. Delaying a (supposedly finished version) for several months is.

“It’s a different kind of experience if you have the Wii U,” Poix said. “Obviously there will be cooperation on the PS3 and 360, but on the Wii U there is still this magic of having one player that can play on one system with a new experience and the other on the usual game pad. That stays a Wii U exclusive for sure, by definition.”

Bwahahaha, holy shit.

Except that the game was slated for release very soon on the WiiU, and now it's being pushed back for a port that won't even likely include Murphy sections. It could be released on the WiiU, then released 7 months later on the 360 and PS3 just fine.

So fuck Ubisoft.

This needs to be quoted a few times for the sheer idiocy of the situation.

So, basically, it was content complete and would have come out this month but we should be grateful for the delay because bugs that may or may not exist might get ironed out alongside the porting of other versions?

Well I'm totally placated, then.

It makes me think that they have very little faith in rayman selling well on any platform.I don't think Ubisoft is that stupid to release this game the same month as GTAV.I'm expecting another delay.
