• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Hades II is releasing September 25.

I found the first one neat and well done, but also incredibly repetitive, even by roguelite standards. Hoping this one is better.

I don't expect this to top part 1, but we'll see. Megaera is the GOAT.

Definitely will buy this once on other platforms.

Hades 1 was really fun for a couple of hours ... but than just like all rogue likes (for me) it becomes boring and repetitive real fast.

Anyway Ill buy this at a discount sometime in the future .. for sure is going to be fun like the first

They are charging $20 more. We'll see how many people will go for that.

Plus Nintendo is actually the publisher for the physical version.

I personally prefer paying $20 Dollars more as a Video Game Collector when the Video Game is completely on the Game Card!

I support this every Day :)

Same here. I only wish it were coming out physically the same day (though I can wait, since I already own the game on Steam but will definitely double dip for the physical release).

It doesn't get super incredible until you
beat the game 5 or 10 times. Basically when you beat Hades the first time he lets you out of hell and you climb your way out into the real world. After the first ending you find Zagreus's mother Persephone in a garden near the exit on the human side(she did not stray far after her escape). He has a long talk with her but starts to fade and gets teleported back to Hades. You climb your way out a few more times and each time spend that time progressing the storyline with Persephone until you eventually convince her to come back with you. You bring her back and she joins you in Hades where the story continues. It's literally the best shit ever made. She has a fucking song she sings that you can't hear until this point and it is fucking legend. She restarts her garden in Hades once you bring her back.

Then it becomes one of the best games of all time.

Not even joking.

The bad part of the game is the early learning, so you only played the worst part! Once you start downing bosses and making progress the game really shines! The illusion is that each death doesn't improve your character. It actually does. The boss mechanics are also impossible seeming on first play but after a few runs they are basically like boxing Glass Joe. It's really cool how it all works. Can't believe this is a Switch 2 console exclusive.

The game is really fun and well made .. and I did beat hades a couple of times... but just like Returnal the concept of doing the same thing over and over dosent appeal to me for long ... it feels like Im doing the same thing because well i am .. and then in the meantime I start a new game that catches my attention and I just never bother anymore, because in my mind I just beated the game (I know I didnt) so there's nothing new only the same gameplay loop to open more story beats.

I get it, I really do. My bro hates roguelites.

Hades is my personal favorite one but the genre is not for everyone. That said, for those that do like this genre, this one is great imho. Gameplay, production values, power ups are legendary. No other roguelite balances them perfectly but Hades did. It kept me coming back and I loved the gameplay, story, characters, music, ect.

Roguelites do have extra fomo from other games for me.

When I play a new game I feel like I'm trying something new. With Hades after the first completion it was more like I was doing an enjoyable fun activity but not necessary breaking new ground which is why the fomo hits, but in my case I was between big games at the time and it worked out well.

Dude I can't wait. I'm hoping I can wrap up the final boss of Silksong tonight...

The big solution I expect the genre to reach is to reduce the expected attempt rate.

A lot of these games are built to be played 100+ times as they slowly dole out meta progression to the player. This makes it so the first % of runs feel exceptionally grindy.

There will be a roguelite that has an expected attempt rate near 10 or 20, which will help solve one of its most common complaints (too repetitive).

Just saw the review thread for Hades 2. I'm beyond hyped now. Can't wait for this!

why not release it on PS5? gotta wait a shit load of time it seems...
They did the exact same thing for part 1. Probably got paid by Nintendo, and probably want to finish all updates first.

1. PC
2. Switch
3. PS5 / Xbox

I ended up buying it twice last time, so this time I'll just wait. It'll hit everything eventually. Part 1 just dropped on Gamepass again.
