Tomb Raider has gone gold! Hits nearly 800 fan art submissions.

Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics has announced that its new game has gone gold. Square Enix will be publishing the title on March 5.

Studio head Darrell Gallagher left a message for Tomb Raider fans on the game’s official Facebook page. You can find it below.

It’s been a long journey, and it feels like we’ve been on this one together. Thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support since we first revealed our new vision for Tomb Raider to the world. I am very happy to let you know that we are into the final stretch of what has been an exciting and challenging adventure for the last few years. Tomb Raider has ‘gone gold’ and is now en route to manufacturing ahead of the game’s official release on March 5th, so there isn’t too long before it will be in your hands.

Back in 2010 when we announced Tomb Raider we promised to break new ground for the franchise – to create an origins story that forges Lara Croft into a hero, and takes her on a journey like no other. I’m very happy that I can stand by those words today.

We’ve put everything into this game, and I’m certain we’ve created something that explores Tomb Raider’s history while pushing the limits in interactive storytelling and design. Development has spanned two studios, a pair of E3 stage demos, 50-plus magazine covers, 150 award nominations, nearly 800 fan art submissions, almost 2,000 blog posts, and over 50,000 replies from you on our forums.

And now it’s time to get the game into your hands. We sincerely hope you enjoy it. We think you will, We are immensely proud of this game.

28 days to go.
Darrell

Aww yeaaa. Who's hyped?

I was hyped like crazy last year when I thought it would release during the holiday. I've lost some of that excitement but still want to play it.

Tried searching that message for the word "protect" and came up with nothing. Does that mean we don't have to protect Lara anymore?

I was hoping to hear this for Rayman Legends....

Nah....I'm hyped guys, honest. I'm hyped.....woo Tomb Raider, and all that.

I've not looked much into it apart from the trailers and dev diarys but yea I'll be getting it.

Hopefully it'll be quick and painless.
And maybe in Tomb Raider 2(10) we'll be able to get over the "origin story" thing, when Lara was apparently the psycho killer, and get back to raiding tombs.

Also looking forward to more Twitter battles with the press. "entitled gaffers destroy Tomb Raider franchise" and so on.

It sure has!

I was afraid that after finishing the Single Player I would go ask my friends if there's more and they would be like "Noooo! There no DLC?!" but I'm glad this is getting Multiplayer!

Either way, I'm interested to play this game!

Kind of excited for reviews. Wonder if it'll end up being the highest rated game in the series like DmC (actually don't quote me on that, don't know what the OG DMC got in terms of reviews).

As for me, I'll play it at some point down the road.

I still don't know why they rebooted it in the first place. They already did a soft-reboot with Legend, and all the games since then have been great.

Well, for what it's worth, I'm looking forward to this.

And it's a fucking shame that so many games are greeted with hostility and anger. What the hell happened to Gaf that negativity has become the only acceptable response around here?

1. Wait for either tons of praise or polarizing reviews.
2. Watch longtime fans backlash, some will be won over.
3. Watch moviegame fans enjoy the experience.
4. Wait for it all to blow over.
5. Gauge reactions from people no longer in the heat of the moment.
6. Profit.

Used to be "DAY 1," but I refuse to be burned by another game in the last year of this generation.

They weren't satisfied with the Underworld sales I guess. Even though I'm excited for this game, I just don't care for the origins of Lara story... I don't care about all the turmoil she went through. I just want another awesome exploration, adventure and action game with a story about her trying to find some epic and lost treassure with dinosaurs and her being badass.

Only acceptable response? You're in a thread where three quarters of it so far are excited to play this piece of shit.
