Could an actor playing the White Rabbit be racist?

Disneyland is being sued by Jason and Annelia Black, who say their African-American children were treated differently than white kids who approached the “Alice in Wonderland” character for hugs and pictures at the Anaheim, Calif., amusement park.

According to Fox5SanDiego.com, 6-year-old Jason Black Jr. approached his favorite character at the park, but was rebuffed. Jason told the station, “I went to hug him, but he turned his back. It’s made me feel sad because I wanted to really hug him.”

Older brother Elijah reportedly then tried to hold the rabbit’s hand, but was pushed away. At first, Jason Black Sr. thought perhaps a new “no touch” policy had been implemented in the park, until he observed the same character hugging the white children who approached him around the same time.

Black told local news station CBS2 Los Angeles that the White Rabbit had behaved warmly with the white children: “The rabbit ... hugged them, kissed them, posed with them and took pictures. Meanwhile, that made my kids feel horrible."
The family immediately complained to the park and were offered VIP passes, which they reportedly refused. CBS2 also reports that the family was offered $500 to sign a confidentiality agreement, which they declined to do. Instead, the Blacks are asking Disney for a public apology and to fire the actor portraying the White Rabbit.

In a statement to Yahoo News, Suzi Brown, director, media relations and external communications at Disneyland Resort, said, "It would be inappropriate to comment on something that we have not seen. We carefully review all guest claims."

I always knew there was something sinister about that rabbit.

Okay, so if the actor did what they said, what's the issue? Why assume they're after money?

Seen the video to know they're lying?

Was Larry David in the suit? I'm sure they can reach an understanding.

The 6 year olds favorite character is the white rabbit from Alice in wonderland, really? That alone makes the news story sound bs.

A whole $500? Like a five with two zeroes after it? They must have had to really think about that offer seeing as how DisneyLand gave them such a sweet deal. :/

I'd have taken the VIP passes, went back to the guy and see if it happens again and build a real case (with video) then make a stink about it.

$500 to stay quiet, and they choose to go public. I don't think they'd get a cent from court, so I'm going to assume that they really did get hurt and are sticking to their guns. Good on them.

thank god they never went near donald duck

I've heard that he's an antisemite.

One of your mascots (apparently) refused to hug my children (apparently) because they're black, so now I'm going to sue you? I mean, Disney trying to keep the family from taking legal action is kind of stupid in it's own right because they make themselves look guilty, but come on.

Yeah, this one won't be difficult for the Disney lawyers.

They're not asking for money

I know. A cynic would say that they're hoping for an even bigger payout by embarrassing Disney, but I'm saying that someone like that would probably have just taken the $500 to begin with. By not taking that money, their claim seems legitimate to me.

I can't imagine someone in those costumes refusing to hug a kid though. They get tourists from all over the world. I don't know how you'd avoid hugging people of all races and creeds, even if you were an enormous racist.

Well, that's one side if the story.

One of the members of the family wanted the white rabbit to sit on their lap. That's not allowed.

Apparently, turning down that request was racist.

There's a second family claiming the same now. Oddly enough, they are being represented by the same attorney.

I think they were apologized to personally when they offered the passes and money. They were probably affronted by the confidentiality agreement. But unless a higher up saw something, I don't think the guy should be fired unless there are more complaints.

Nooo I believed in them.
