Persona 4 Arena is coming to US PSN

...but will it be region free?!

Probably not since the MG Rising demo has taught us that downloads from the PS Store can be region locked, but I think we'd all like it to be.

Anyone willing to front the cash to try this one out on a PAL console? If I had more money, I would...

just come to Europe

See guys? All that bitching about region-lock for nothing.
We'll
possibly
get the European release soon after the US
PSN
release!

I would almost consider buying it off the store so I dont have to switch discs for it, but I imagine that Itll be a 20GB file or something ridiculous.

Say even if it is, DLC will be region locked.

Well, if you've managed to buy a PSN game from the US store, you have the means to also buy DLC from the US store. Region locked DLC is only really an issue on Vita and PSP, where you can't easily switch accounts.

if by soon after you mean more than a month still then sure.

It's pretty much guaranteed to be region locked too if they're gonna try to charge full price for the european version

Depending on the price and size of the game, I may actually get it through this. Always been a bit interested in getting it but the sad thing was its price point for me annnnnd it being on the disc (I'm lazy with switching discs all the time).

Yup that's how I figure it is as well; if you have the US ver. of a game from PSN, only its dlc from US PSN will work with it.

If it is, I would urge Euro people not to buy it anyway because fuck Atlus for this.

...bu...but...EPIC BRO FISTS AND STEEL CHAIRS! ;.;

The retail game installed to the harddrive is 3GB, so that gives you an idea of the size.

Meanwhile in Europe....

Great, I finally forgot about this game and moved on with my life - now another twist with the Atlus-knife in my European heart :O

Good to see that it goes PSN in US, though, maybe raises attention and draws in some people who did not get it, ehh... last year or something. (would be clever to release the PSN-version at the same time the European version releases, though - more new players at the same time. Then again, I understand the decision not to wait for that event, it is probably quite difficult to promote a PS3-PSN release when the second wave of PS4 games is already behind the corner after E3 2014 *thats how optimistic I am about when this will hit Europe*)

Not ever buying as long as it's region locked.

Same here. Honestly the fact that people were okay with this just because it was Atlus boggles my mind. If it were EA or Activision who had done it I really doubt those people would have been okay with it.

Who is okay with it? Maybe I missed initial reactions, but since then it has been a near universal damning of the event.

You act like there wasn't a huge crapfest over it... :p

And it's still inexcusable that Atlus did it, I don't think anyone denies that.

Me too! :( And from a technological point of view I would be interested what would happen if I log in with a US account, buy the game and reroute my EU PS3 though a US VPN...

PSN isn't IP restricted, you can buy stuff from the US store to your heart's content. It's the console/software that has region locks.

It probably isn't going to make a difference, but it's maybe worth noting that PSone games are region-free on PSN, but region-locked on disk.

Nothing, if the game is region locked it would look for a hardware identifier to determine if you're locked out, not an ip address. The VPN is pointless.

Oh yeah I'm aware that it's usually the software itself that checks out and that PSN isn't region restricted I just wondered if since it's a digital release now it would rather check back with a server than like some betas on PSN.
