Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

think I may also cancel my Wii U pre-order. I have no plans to go online till I have put some serious time into single player mode.

No point on having the Wii U version collect dust.

Indeed. All it took it was a small argument I had with the girlfriend lol. She goes "Why don't you just get it on 3DS first?". I was so mad I didn't consider that option first.

That's a smart way to save money.

*has the 3DS and Wii U versions preordered*

>_>

This was me like 2 weeks ago!

Two things:

IGN Videos

I feel like a better way of doing this video series is to actually start with the first video showing Charles (the better guy) taking on some higher rank monsters and showing those uninitiated with Monster Hunter what an experienced hunter can do and hunt. THEN start showing this newbie's chronicle from starting from scratch. Because right now, like others have mentioned, while it's a good idea, this isn't exactly making Monster Hunter look attractive to those that are possibly considering to buy as their first entry in the series.

3 U Wii U & 3DS

Monster Hunter bring my favorite franchise, I have in my head that I need to support the franchise in the West... so I have both the Wii U & 3DS versions pre-ordered (since those @ Capcom have stated that's a good way to show support? I guess?) even though I'll most likely cancel after it's released and nab the digital versions. Yeah it's a lot of money... but they've given me adequate time to save up and be able to afford it. Guess I'm lucky in that respect.

I was going to buy a Wii U for this game, but seeing as how I'm going to play a shit ton of the single player first I figured I can save a little bit by getting the 3DS version first.
Wise, some friends of mine are doing the same.

I'm getting both, already have $40 on the 3DS eShop. Take my money! *-*

Do we know yet if/when it will be on the eshop? It's not published by Nintendo so won't necessarily be day one, right?

They said something about the digital release being around launch, but without committing to launch day. I hope it's day 1, because we're buying all our copies (2 3DS, 1 Wii U) versions digital.

Looks like I finally got my brother to tag along with me. Gonna upgrade to a 3DS XL and give him my current 3DS. Paying for half his copy too. It'll be his first MH game, but he has a good mentor :}

The more I play with my new Wii U the more I realize that I never want to buy a game without off tv play. I'll probably buy this since I'm interested to get into the series but I won't like it :(

Curse you capcom ::shakes fist::

IGN has posted a good starter guide for Mon Hun 3 Ultimate, for anyone interested and that hasn't played the series. =)

So it's My Fair Hunter.... but worse

I want to upgrade to an XL as well but they don't have any colors I like :(. Dang it!!!!!

As someone who has never played the series, but has always been curious as to what all the fuss is about: is it worth picking up the 3DS version if I don't anticipate ever owning the Wii U version? Is there enough of an enjoyable experience in the single player handheld game, or is it mostly focused on the online component of the Wii U?

Yep.

I've answered this question many times in this thread but I don't want anyone to not be given the chance to experience what I experienced with this series.

Truth be told their experiences will probably be better. As I imagine some of the older players experiences include slamming a PSP into the wall as Plesioth puts us on the Kitty Express from halfway across the field.

The lack off tv play really has me conflicted. This is something I'd really like to play while watching something else. I've found myself playing NSMBU this way the majority of the time. Now that I'm done with Assassin's Creed 3 chances are I'm going to be playing it like that more when I'm just messing around in the Frontier (not during Naval battles though). Been playing Ninja Gaiden like that a little as well.

I'm almost tempted now to get the 3DS version along side the Wii U version now instead of waiting or just the 3DS version first. I would then have an option on which way I could play. However that's an expensive option. I shouldn't have to pay $40+ or well $30+ if I cash in some of my points at GameStop. I would be getting the game on top of the Wii U version and Lego City as they come out at the same time.

No man, I couldn't even do that. My hand was so deformed by the 'claw' that when I tried to swing it at the wall my fingers had it in a vice grip.

I'm just getting the 3DS version for now, but I'll think about the WiiU version later. I've realized that somehow I play for an absurd amount of time on handhelds but when I got Tri, it didn't last so long.

Ugh, maybe I'm not a sit down and play kind of person.

are there full camera controls mapped to the right stick on the wii u version?

I couldnt stand having to do the claw on the psp version and its a big issue of why I gave up after only an hour or two

Id like the 3ds version but Im not going to deal with a lack of camera controls

Why do you think they didn't include the feature? ;)

^ I'm kind of the same. No matter how many luxuries the console version offers will hold I'll always 'main' the handheld version. Lucky me the Japanese feel the same way and Capc finally decided to add in everything for 4.

Well you don't have to claw anyway with a d-pad on the screen right hand side (and the camera in MH is digitally controlled anyway) and the Monster aim. Of course you could buy the 2nd stick add-on for the dual analogue.

Any word yet on preorder bonuses? I'm picking up Wiiu versions x 2 and 3ds x 4 so the more goodies I can squeeze outta this the better :)

Also, really dig your photoshopping talents. Think you could do something with mine :)

I have a question about those of you who have used off-TV play. Can you do that while your in the middle of playing a game online?

Going to just pick this up on 3DS, lack of online is a bummer but I'm not going to buy a Wii U just to play online.

You're not alone

IMHO, Capcom really fucked up their goodwill with US MoHun fans... well Capcom Japan really.
I've almost written off the series entirely due to their stingy-ass attitude towards releasing shit, or when they do, it's seemingly at the coldest of times. Not to mention, I've just become put off by them nickel n' diming their fan base by just repeatedly releasing the same, PS2-era assets in some form or another.

I understand this is just my opinion, but I really don't think Ultimate is gonna do that great here. I think most waiting for ANYTHING mohun have since moved on.
Didn't a similar situation happen with say, Freedom Unite? Cats were playing the native version for months n' months (by nefarious means of course) before the american localization dropped. Then when it did and had marginal sales, Capcom was seemingly surprised.

I keep watching vids of both HD Wii U and 3DS versions of Tri G, trying to get excited, but man is it hard =(

Well, it seems like negative news of Wii U finally hit MonHun 3 U. A shame. :/
Hopefully, I still got a bunch of gaffers to play with.

Whats the negative news?

It being on the Wii U has nothing ....well scratch that, it does actually a little bit

For me, I am a litte bothered that of all the franchises Nintendo had to go and money hat, it was this one.
Can't be to hard on someone not wanting to drop $350 to just play one game ...that's a HD upressed Wii game to boot

I'm actually honestly fascinated to see just how long Capcom can pull this off. You know, the whole last-gen assets approach to this franchise.
Don't drop MoHun4 because frankly, at this point, I think it looks like shit outside of some great animation

Sorry for the slightly off-topic question. But did Nintendo ever announce a new circle pad pro for the 3DS XL? If so, when is it coming to the states?

This is a pretty silly stance to me.

Yeah we waited a long time for this game but it's understandable that Capcom wanted a different hook to the Western release and finding a space for it in the HD sphere as well, so they waited for the launch of the Wii U.

We were begging for the game and when we got it, it was also online (on the WiiU), and they listened to complaints about voice chat, keyboard, adding features not in the Japanese version.

There's really not that much to complain about, excruciating as it was to be among the users desperately waiting for news in various MH threads here on Neogaf.

For the 4th game they right some of the wrongs that still linger, like no online for portable versions. And it's hard to argue them making this a handheld first franchise considering the main market they simply have to cater to.

It's out in Japan. Don't know the West. Can be bought via play-asia for about 20 bucks.

Don't think so and honestly don't think they're going to. They seem ashamed of it's existence

You can actually buy the japanese one off of Amazon though lol

sensible post is sensible

Anyone know what armour this is or is it a Monster Hunter 4 one? Looks almost like the boxart one but ain't, in fact anyone got a site that shows off all the 3 Ultimate's armour sets?
Edit: Reuploaded image; apparently the Jinouga Blade armour in MH3U
j0tsUd1gjvqpW.jpg

Are the two versions of each armour different in any way (stats, etc) or just aesthetics?
There is gunner armor and melee armor. Gunner armor tends to have less defense, but better elemental resistance (but you're probably doing something wrong if elemental resists matter). Armor skills are usually slightly different (more skills useful for gunners on gunner armor).

If you make a melee armor set and then decide you want to go with something like a bow, the only thing you will be able to wear from the set is the hat/helmet, which IIRC never have restrictions on melee vs gunner.

One set for gunners (bowguns, guns etc), one for blademasters (swords, hammer etc). Stats are different, mainly the gunner armor has way less defense.

Thanks, I had no idea that ranged weapons used different armours.
