Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will probably replace Revelations as the best looking 3DS game to date.
I love Capcom, their games are fun and good looking. What more can I ask for?

They actually bothered making an engine for the 3DS so its not too surprising.
Nintendo and Capcom put others to shame - its why I laugh at SE claiming Heroes of Ruin sold badly because of the platform.
Fact is Nintendo and Capcom have engines that are basically already utilising the 3DS to a great degree and the games look great. Its the perfect fit of power and resolution; nothing goes under utilised.
Can't wait to see if Nintendo can push 3D Land 2 even further.

Capcom's using MT Framework their inhouse engine which can be scaled, thus the Wii U HD version, whilst the 3DS version uses the mobile MT Framework, so yeah they thought ahead and deserves praise. And anyone could tell from the very first reveal of Heroes of Ruin that it was generic as hell, no idea why Square-Enix didn't discuss it with N-Space =/

Not if it's basically a straight port of a 3DS game and they need the GamePad screen to act as the 3DS's bottom screen.
Yeah, I think a lot of people forget (or don't even know) the Wii U version is a port of the 3DS game, not the other way around. This was not a game built from the ground up for the Wii U.

The game supports the Pro Controller and the Classic Controller Pro. They could add Off-TV play and probably should add it, but hey...
That's not really a major design alteration...

I don't get why the ported version gets online play and the supposed "lead" platform (3DS) doesn't. Reeks of laziness.
Or, if I were cynical, a way to get people to drop the funds for both.

I do blame them, especially if you've played mohun extensively enough to know that bottom screen shit is not fundamental at all. They could have easily removed it for off screen play. They deliberately chose not to for more sales. Which, I understand this is a business, but still. That and not adding online play to the US 3DS version, just further illustrates some of the companies philosophies. Capcom gets a bad wrap for a legitimate reason sometimes.
Because the Japanese 3DS version doesn't have it either. There really isn't more to it.

I've reversed my decision, regardless - will get Wii U one so can least play online with mates, now I found out the bf has no interest in even playing it with me anyway
The point was about the feasibility of Off-TV play in the context of a 3DS port, i.e. Capcom could have included it but decided not to due to greed. That's why there is a second sentence after the one you quoted.

I can't hate cause they did add online and they are localizing it and it is in 1080p and you can play local multiplayer with 3DS players and you can transfer saves between the versions.

It makes me glad that they've included online off the bat for MH4 though, less complaints all round cept those lol 3DS textures people =/
Ultimate might have had a better online if not for the local multiplayer with 3DS players since that feature keeps getting mentioned as the reason why we're stuck with 4 player rooms.
With any luck, the online version of a U port of 4 will not be completely gimped by connection to 3DS player considerations. It's probably too much to ask for, given that the Wii U is something like the red-headed step sister to the 3DS at this point.
You can customize it like with the 3DS. Of course it's really useful for the 3DS, not so much for the HD large screen version.
Touch screen quick combos should be useful though.
OT: Anyone got iphone/ipodtouch 5 Monster Hunter wallpapers? Preferably in the stylized artstyle of the loading screens / menu / monster icons / some artwork.

My guess is that the limited amount of RAM on the 3DS makes it non-trivial to add online functionality, and the MH team was busy trying to get MH4 shipped.

Never got around to playing any of the earlier games in the series, but feel like now is just as good a time as any to get into them. Are there any major differences between the Wii U/3DS versions which would justify getting both for the connectivity features?
