Education, rebuilding neighborhoods by hiring government employess, it is all spending money to increase the quality of life through programs that could never be profitable. It just means more deficit.

It's like you don't believe in capitalism. Those are investments that will be repaid in increased economic growth, leading to higher tax revenues. That's pretty much how governments work. The biggest problem with all the terrible household analogies is that they have apparently made all kinds of people forget basic civics.

Can we please get a fucking high speed rail system in this crumbling country?

PLEASE!!!!!

Hell, it got proposed state-wide in Ohio in recent years, and the government at the state level here was pretty much "lol no". I was pretty disappointed.

And that was just an exagerrated example. You took it too literal. But actually yeah, you could round up to $11 per employee at 9 an hour... insurance and other things do pile up.

Here's a tip for you: if you want to make an example that sounds like you know any semblance about the topic of which you speak, don't exaggerate. Labor isn't even the most expensive part of running a business, FYI

Barack HUSSEIN Obama, duh.

He's a secret Muslim.

I forgot.

And just like that you shutdown a number of start ups, be it restaurant or stores. Potential better paying jobs in the future. How to manage this? I'll just fire an employee and make up for the increased cost. That's how many small/medium businesses will see this.

A lot of business fail because that's just their nature. It depends on a lot of variables. Wages are a huge portion of their budgets but that's not why they fail.

As if decreasing the minimum wage or leaving it as is would encourage them to create more jobs? Why hire more employees when you can pocket more profits? Did we NOT just go through all of this with the bank bailouts? This argument just doesn't hold any water. Sometimes businesses will fail. And then others won't by finding a better business model, by making sustainable income WITHOUT being a detriment to the livelihoods of their employees. Not every business is some sacred cow that deserves to be coddled. THAT'S free market capitalism.

Damn, calling out the republican voter suppression tactics.

A commission?

Fuck Obama, make it an executive order.

1 vote machine for every 1,000 residents.

Voting 6am-10pm.

Kids who go to pre-school are more likely to succeed later in life, I'd say it's a sound investment.

I would argue better middle/high school is far more important since that is when kids are most impressionable. Preschool is glorified daycare from what I remember.

Interesting to observe that Boehner has to clap for women and immigration, but steadfastly doesn't clap for at least as popular gay marriage.

Man, everyone in that room either looks like they are about to keel over or wishes they were already dead. I'm starting to see something to this whole reptillian thing, these people barely seem human.

Oh shit, Bams being reasonable. Can't have that.

Serious? that's like the best policy proposal in his speech. pre-k education is hugely important and will save families money as well on daycare

I don't want to sound like a luddite, but I don't buy all the supposed benefits of pre-school. Plus, I want a choo-choo train that blazes from New York to Chicago to Denver to Las Vegas to Los Angeles.

The point is, investing in pre-k education will make middle/high school's better just because we will have better students by investing in pre-k education
