Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

Yea, the demo won't be newcomer friendly. :(

It's interesting how this is kind of the flaw with demos. I remember a few posts in the Fire Emblem OT saying the demo wasn't satisfying, but the impressions made them buy the game, and they're enjoying it. I guess demos can hurt sales, but I think a demo should be made depending on the type of game. I think the MH demos should be like the beginning of the game, so it can ease the player in and they can get the hang of it. And it should carry progress over to the full game.

If they were smart, the demo would let you collect the coliseum quest coins since those quests have preset equipment anyway.

I like that idea, but at the same time it doesn't allow demo players to see the areas you get to visit. For me that's always been a pull of MH, and the Tri generation of games had absolutely lovely locations.

The training school/coliseum style quests weren't always coliseum only and 2 players max. That change happened in Tri and the game is worse for it.

Right at the PS4pocalypse. So why hasn't anyone made a gif of a hunter slaying the evil Kaz demon that has infested gaf? Nintendo fans never get the good gifs :(

Really?

Kaz is a businessman. He's neither good nor evil. I favor the Sony of today, more in 2013, than I did 2000-2006 era.

Nintendo is a fine company, but at least Sony has been more core gamer than MS has been. Sony offers good series' that contrast Nintendo's own development philosophies. They each have strengths and weaknesses. Try to find the good in each platform, as a limited gaming view narrows your exposure to different games you might like.

Example: Nintendo hasn't released an FZero since the brilliant GCN FZeroGX. Sony released Wipeout 2048 for the Vita, last year. While Nintendo has fantastic IPs, they can be slow to deliver or let inventive ones languish (Wave Race, 1080). It's when this happens, I'm glad there are meaty experiences like Uncharted or Gravity Rush to experience.

Anyhow, not to derail or go off topic - sorry -

Very excited for my first MonHun game. Getting together for 3DS multiplayer should be a blast, so long as the core experience is fun. There has been a lot of hype for this series, especially after Nintendo scored the exclusive in 2011. I hope if lives up to that, either way - this will be my 35th 3DS retail game ^_^

there are several Nintendo gifs: the giant bullet bill laying wake, Iwata and the explosion and the it prints $ ones

We get plenty of good ones. :P

Wait, when did a demo happen?

I think a Monster Hunter demo would best work if it had online. I'm not speaking for myself, but of my friends that have tried it out. One couldn't figure it out. Another got bored by the 1* quests. Yet another played splitscreen with me and is now awaiting this game.

An online demo would probably draw in experienced players, too. The newcomers could see how the game's supposed to go by looking at them.

3DS JP Demo:

- No coop
- No CPP support
- Can play 30 times
- Can hunt for 20 minutes
- Chacha and Kayamba
- 12 weapons
- Labombi (easy)
- Plesioth (hard)

We are probably getting the same demo.

Well hey, that's sufficient for me. Ample opportunity for me to convert from Wiimote to the standard ABXY configuration... and learn the "new" weapon classes.

Side note: do we know how many people will be allowed per city (in the NA/EU versions)? The gimped four was rather disappointing.

4 because it has adhoc play with the 3DS version.

It's gotta include CPP support. I mean, the Wii U version of the demo will surely include dual analog controls.

any word from Capcom on Wii U eShop day 1?

I have 3 games I want for Wii U in March the ones on discs get put off in favor of the ones I can download day 1

last I heard Ultimate was not guaranteed to be on eShop release day?

MH3U
NFSMW
LCU

all three seems like games that I would want to speed a lot of time on not sure about Lego City's world size and campaign size, but Need For Speed and Monster Hunter should provide 100+ hours for me, unless I will be stuck waiting weeks for an eShop version

Awesome that there will be a WiiU demo, keep forgetting about it's capability to do so after lacking downloadable demos for so long.

My only experience with MonHun was with Tri on the Wii, but I loved it enough to pour a few hundred hours into it.

Absolutely can't wait for this (and I'm probably going to double dip) but I have a bit of a sinking feeling that I'm going to end up just using the Greatsword right the way through the game again. I was briefly cycled through the weapons when I first started Tri and quickly settled on the GS. After a hundred hours or so I tried everything else again but immediately came back to the GS again. Don't get me wrong, I love using that weapon (and I'm surgical with it to boot) but part of me feels like I'm missing out on about 90% of the game by sticking to it.

I thknk that Nintendo got some of the most funny/popular videogames Gifs of all time ;p

Btw, I'm still focused on the 3DS version, despite it being the "poor" one, because of the lack of Offtv...I'm really happy that I'll be allowed to share save data later on when I'll buy also the WiiU version.

I'd love a combo pack btw...please Capcom!!!

Just preordered the 3DS version, hopefully i'll get this t-shirt, the greek Nintendo representative (Nortek) has some of them, but they are limited.

Same here. I have pre-ordered long before the announcement of the bonus T-Shirt so I'll be definitely getting one of these.

I made myself learn a new weapon in Tri. I was a big hammer user (with some LS and bow mixed in) in MHF1 + F2 + FU and told myself that I wouldn't use those weapons unless I absolutely had to.

Settled on trying to lance and now I'm big into lancing.

I'd stick with it. The more versatile you are with your weaponry, the better of a hunting asset you'll be.

Already decided to really try to be a competent hunting horn player in 3 U, so we'll see how that goes!

My weapon history was a bit weird. I beat the demo with the Long Sword and loved it, then had to switch to Great Sword grudgingly since LS isn't available from the start in Tri. Then I got really accustomed to it and even kept using it after I could have gotten a LS. Then I switched to LS but I can go between pretty well.

I'm really looking forward to using Dual Swords in Ultimate though. I've always thought they looked really cool.

I small bit I played of MHFU I used Dual Swords. In Tri, I started with S&S, but moved on to hammers and eventually Great Axe as well. I still ending up crafting most of the S&S weapons because they look pretty awesome. Looking forward to trying more of the ranged weapons in Ultimate.

My history was...

Playthrough 1:
SnS => Switch Axe => Switch Axe => Switch Axe

.... Switch Axe => LS/Hammer/Lance

Playthrough 2:
Gunner all the way +LS for some tail cutting.

Stupid Switch Axe almost ruined the game for me. But I used it so much back then.

What's wrong with SA?

Man watching vids of Dual Swords is hyping me up. They look so dancey and graceful and quick. Can't wait. :(

My only experience with MH is playing about 20 hours in one the first PSP games, and I always used the Hammer. So I have no idea what I'll main, I'll try them all in the demo and decide. Watching videos the ones I like most are the lance and sword/shield, but I'll have to try them. I can't wait.

Have you heard about how 3 U locks you into a charm table for drops?

German Monster Hunter YouTuber MHVuze has a fairly long & extensive video about it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIIJ9PkXRik

Basically, in P3 (and just regular Tri I believe) charm drops depended on the charm table you were on. This was randomly assigned whenever you booted up the game. But in Tri G (3 U), when you create your character you are locked into one charm table.

I know it's known but recently saw updated discussions about it... and thought I'd ask here.

Personally - while I'll certainly invest many, many hours into the games (both 3DS and Wii U) - I'm not too concerned about this. It kind of sucks, in that I won't be able to obtain a certain charm based on what table I've been placed at when I first created my character, but it's not something I'm super upset about.

What's wrong with SA?

I didn't know that different weapons had different damage allocations. I always focused on upgrading my SA because it was the strongest line, and when it felt like I was getting any stronger I concluded that all the other weapons would be to weak to help. Turns out the SA doesn't use the Attack stat as much as other weapons, not to mention I didn't take into account how many hits I was getting off per opportunity.

Huh? That seems like moving backwards. It's like IVs in Pokemon but worse, at least you can breed out the IVs you want eventually.

I was a Switch Axe user throughout all of Tri but now my faith is wavering... how's the Hunting Horn?
That's what I'd like to know...it interests me as we'll.

Edit: I'm determined to learn a couple new classes.

That's crazy, I had no idea... So this means certain charms will be unattainable on a given play through?? What's the purpose for this,
just replayabillity??
