Annie Hall - My first time watching it and i thought it was great. I immediately realized after watching this, where a bunch of films took inspiration from.

I liked how the non linearity was used. Like Alvy complaining about la di da, then afterwards showing it as a quirk that made Annie attractive to him. Or at least that's how i saw it. I also loved the constant breaking of the fourth wall and the scene with subtitles, showing what they're really thinking.

It was a really charming film with fantastic performances and I suspect i'll be back to watch it before too long. This was my first Woody Allen film. I'm planning to watch Manhattan next, but after that what would you guys recommend?

That subtle foreshadowing and the way she delivers the line make it one of my favorite moments in film.

Definitely watch Hanna and Her Sisters and Crimes and Misdemeanor. I like Sleeper too.

To me Annie Hall became only better after a rewatch.

Crimes and Misdemeanors, The Purple Rose of Cairo, Radio Days, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Broadway Danny Rose, Husbands and Wives, Hannah and Her Sisters, Stardust Memories. Then the rest.

Rififi
Incredible film, probably the best heist movie I've seen. Some great imagery, especially in this one POV shot. The height itself was masterful, I love how the film just ceases to have dialogue for a half hour or so. Powerful, tragic ending. 9/10

Watched Harsh Times the other night, and I gotta say, it was pretty damn good. I really enjoyed David Ayer's other movies Training Day and End of Watch. Gonna see Warm Bodies this week sometime. Hope it is good.

I watched less than zero and I enjoyed how it completely missed the point of the book and turned the story into an anti-drugs PSA

Watched Dredd.

So...it's often in the same conversation with The Raid because of the similiarities in the premise, and nobody actually thinks those movies compare, right?

I can't remember the last time I was so deathly bored when watching a movie.

Well, at least Dredd was good fun.

My dad loves that movie, because it re-enforced all his over-protective habits about us. He gets nervous when he just go out of town to say, Beaumont to Houston. So we got this girl who just...IMMEDIATELY gets kidnapped once he relents to all the bitching and guilt tripping, I mean right off the damn plane! <om is distraught, that'll teach you to not listen to dad! Father just kicks everybody's ass unrelentingly.

You guys should watch FATHER'S DAY (2012).

The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford was underwhelming when I saw it. I'll try to rewatch it soon, to see if my perception has changed.

I was underwhelmed the first time I watched it. I tried 3 months later, and found it to be amazing. If you really study the characters, the performances are quit wonderful.

I watched In Bruges the other night, and that's it. Two for two, Martin McDonagh has not made a bad movie. In fact, he made two of my new favorite movies of all time.

I wonder does he have one of the worst post Oscar careers?

Ben Kingsley went from doing Ghandi and Schindler's List to working with Uwe Boll.

Of course he's come back in recent years with Scorsese fare, but he's also starring in Gavin Hood's sodomization of Ender's Game.

Life of Pi - The visuals alone made this movie a winner for me. Dat tiger, dat everything. I found the story interesting and engaging and i'm generally a sucker for these types of movie (Cast Away is a favourite of mine)

Probably my favourite movie that was released last year. Sorry, Django.

Detachment - Holy shit this movie is good. Adrien Brody is probably the most underrated actor working today.
I wonder does he have one of the worst post Oscar careers?
I didn't think his performance in The Pianist was that good. Or in the other stuff I've seen him in, either. Might have to check out Detachment and see if it changes my mind.

I watched Seven Psychopaths last night and liked it, I suppose. Both of his movies are a bit too dark, though, in my opinion.

I think if the movies have one big turnoff, it's that they both star extremely-non-PC, even bigoted characters. It's something I'm personally not sure what my thoughts are about it yet.

I think the quirky, offensive nature of his movies is not so much a problem as the overblown mental anguish Colin Farrell's characters go through. Personally, at least. I'm sure a lot of people would strongly dislike the films because of the complete lack of political correctness.

Somehow watching and thinking about Seven Psychopaths has been making me think about how fucking good Pulp Fiction is.

Well, I thought it was a bit over the top in SP, but in In Bruges, I thought it was very appropriate. One of my best friends is a marine who....has a similar problem. The way Farrell played it was pretty close to it.

Yeah, it's more how it is mixed with the comedic elements that feels a bit off to me. That said, I do think it's interesting and well done in In Bruges. I'm not personally close to anyone that's been affected by such traumatic events, and am not really sure what to say on the matter. Respect and best wishes, I suppose.

Same. The whole time I was watching Seven Psychopaths, I felt like I was watching a Pulp Fiction knock-off. Not a terrible one, but a tragically average one, in my opinion. I absolutely love In Bruges and the potential for Seven Psychopaths was enormous.

Battleship: It was good enough. That might sound like an insult, but it isn't at all. It was a perfectly acceptable and enjoyable dumb summer action movie. It was a movie that could and should have been the dumbest movie ever, but it was fun to watch and that's all I ask from a movie like this. Gambit was likeable, the effects were cool, Rhianna was hot. It's definitely by the numbers summer blockbuster, but that isn't always a bad thing. I feel like every movie has gone to the Michael Bay school of movies lately, though. A whole lot of movies even in non-action movies have that same saturated look with slow sweeping crane shots and/or 360s/and/or overhead shots over and over. Good enough for me. I liked it more than a lot of the movies I've watched lately (End of Days, Green Lantern, a rewatch of Prometheus which loses A LOT when on a TV and not in a theater, Five Year Engagement, Bridesmaids).

Your Sister's Sister: Fairly simple story, yet emotionally powerful with plenty of funny moments. Loved it. Mark Duplass is on such a ridiculous roll these last few years.

Saw Killer of Sheep. Peculiar looking film, unlike anything I've seen. There's something very raw and natural about it that I loved. I gotta say I found the ending a bit touching (with the music and all). 9/10

Lone Wolf McQuade

Easily the best Chuck Norris movie for me so far. A highly entertaining mash up of 80s action and spaghetti western, with Daniel Frishman aping Orson Welles.

So, I decided to do the Die Hard marathon at my local AMC theater, and I have to start by applauding just how terrific the management was for the event. They had caught a faulty projector on the screen they were planning to show them originally, so it was delayed an hour, so they went ahead and gave everyone in attendance coupons for free refreshments, all of the goodies from the event that we wanted (I wound up with 4 or 5 posters, which were reproductions of one of the original Die Hard posters, making me extremely happy), and to top it all off, everyone in attendance got a free IMAX upgrade for the new film. Absolutely superb customer service all around.

So, the original order of the rankings of the films (which would always be Die Hard>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Die Hard: With a Vengeance>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Die Hard 2>(there aren't enough goddamn greater-than signs in the universe to accurately explain the gulf here)Live Free or Die Hard still stands, but having seen A Good Day to Die Hard, I feel comfortable in saying that it's just under With a Vengeance, and it's certainly a much better film that I was expecting. It's a no-bullshit shoot-em-up with some great stunts (the highway sequence was fucking awesome because it stuck to real vehicles for all the carnage), a fun story, and Bruce and Jai Courtney played off each other quite well. This series was doomed by a first entry that is so deservedly deified, but that doesn't mean you can't do a fine film regardless.

Safety Not Guaranteed got added to Netflix today!

Ah nice! Thanks for the heads up, I've been wanting to watch it again.

That sounds awesome man, very excellent customer service there. Glad to hear on Die Hard 5, my roommate just got home from the marathon and said it was terrible, but what does she know? However, I do remember liking Die Hard 4.......hmmm.
