With a 5850/5970 Crossfire, i5-2500K @ 4.9GHz, 16GB DDR 3 @ 1080P and max settings, it wasn't even hitting 60fps while stationary at a quiet corner (not a lot of geometry or movement). But here's my Fraps bench (I couldn't find an official benchmark mode) anyway, from just sitting at the following corner (literally not moving, except bumping the camera so it wouldn't go into sleep mode):

Only way I can get anything close to a stable 60 is if I turn everything down to medium (this is with driving around a bit):

But thanks for your input though. I wish I'd known earlier that if it ran fine on your PC, then it must run fine on everyone's. Would've saved me the effort of this post.

Anyway, apologies for the derail, guys. I hope Criterion doesn't overhype this port like they did the PC one, seriously. The remote play thing sounds nuts.
 
I would love the traffic option for the 360 too. It would help me right now while I have to drive the 200 miles in each of the five DLC cars.

Why would anyone buy this? They can put all the effort they want into this version, it's still being sent to die. The pricing model is pathetic.

Yea, this is the thing. I can see all the right reasons why they had to wait(deliver online, insufficient docs, etc) but it's still a late port.

Considering none of the console versions can hold steady 30fps particularly well, I wouldn't necessarily blame PC specific work for this - the game just may have been a bit over ambitious, across all releases (WiiU video doesn't look to have stable framerate either).

Owing to the 1GB of RAM available to developers - compared to the 512MB on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 - the Wii U version features the enhanced textures currently found only on the PC version. It sounds like an ambitious addition, but it proved to be no issue for the team.

"There's a switch in our build pipeline that says 'use PC textures' and we flipped that and that was all," Hamadi laughs. "I can take no credit for that, it was literally ten minutes' work... we are using PS3/360 geometry. It's just the textures we upgraded."

It's pathetic the price drops so much in 4 months. Is that the price for a brand new copy? How can something at retail drop that much in price unless it's a bomba to begin with?

As far as I know it includes all the DLC so still a bit overpriced but not in the rip-off ballpark. Anyway, that's Amazon. It will be around 40 pounds (maybe even lower) by the time it's released.
 
I already have the PS3 version and wouldn't mind getting the PC version for 60FPS for the right price if it wasn't for Origin, but I gotta support non-lazy devs. Wii U version instabuy.

But seriously when I hear about shit like Criterion just flipping a switch to add in PC textures it definitely perpetuates the "lazy devs" meme when you look at other games. Drives me nuts.

I think a lot of people have been premature about it in a lot of ways because while it is a lower clock-speed, it punches above its weight in a lot of other areas," he explains.

"So, I think you've got one group of people who walked away, you've got some other people who just dived in and tried and thought, 'Ah... it's not kind of there,' but not many people have done what we've done, which is to sit down and look at where it's weaker and why, but also see where it's stronger and leverage that. It's a different kind of chip and it's not fair to look at its clock-speed and other consoles' clock-speed and compare them as numbers that are relevant. It's not a relevant comparison to make when you have processors that are so divergent. It's apples and oranges."

I really hope Best Buy or Target runs a buy 2 get 1 free sale the week of the 17th: LEGO City Undercover, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and now Need for Speed Most Wanted would be quite nice!
 
Yep. I'm really pleasantly surprised by the amount of effort they've put into the Wii U version. Day 1 buy for me.

I especially liked this part of the interview:

"The Wii U has had a bit of a bad rap - people have said it's not as powerful as 360, this, that and the other. That, by and large, has been based on apples to oranges comparisons that don't really hold water. Hopefully we'll go some way to proving that wrong," he says.

"Nintendo don't speak about that, it's not their core focus at all but they did their 'Iwata Asks' about the hardware and it talks consistently about how they got to keep it quiet with low power consumption, and they totally did that... but what they haven't really championed is how they delivered something that could do this as well [he points to the 50-inch Panasonic playing host to Most Wanted U]... Yea I understand. Saying the article fits right in this thread is pretty stupid. Only people who want or interested in a most wanted port for Wii U will look at this thread. The article is about more than just this game.
 
Criterion basically called everyone else lazy liars about Wii U power but who will care when the big news next week is PS4?

Still I am happy enough to get a disc version of this game and eShop version, because I like to see someone who takes pride in their work

Real power? I don't know... he seems pretty level headed here. Saying it is a nice system, better in some ways, worse in others isn't exactly isn't praising the capabilities of the machine to heaven. It seems pretty in line with what most people already believed. Well, at least I hope that's what most people thought.

That said, it's good to see Criterion make the system shine. Those guys always deliver on the tech side, and make great games to boot! Let's hope future Wii U ports also show the same level of care. If the games are performing better than 360/PS3 versions, sales of multiplatform titles should pick up.

High-res PC textures are the headline addition, but Criterion has also improved night-time lighting after employing new staff who previously worked in the motion picture business. In contrast to the other versions, the game begins at night perhaps to highlight the difference.

Does not matter who cares. Wii U will be "stronger" than ps3 when ps4 news come out for sure. Besides this is great news for fans of Wii U. We can only expect greatness from retro and everybody.

I am not sure what is so special about the night time but I'm sure the DF comparison when it comes will shed some light into the differences

when the game has gone gold in a week or two I guess

This was SIMPLY the whole problem with the Wii U. Third-Party devs just not taking any effort, it was just THAT simple. Its a shame, case closed...Well done Criterion.

There you have it, folks. Third-Party devs just aren't trying.
 
I said this many times. The CPU isn't weak it is just different. So straight porting from the current gen hardware isn't going to show results. The good thing is that the Durango and ps4 have similar CPUs so at least down ports won't be completely out of the question.
 
I don't see what's the big deal. A good port, that's fine and dandy but that's all. Gamepad again having a minor use that is geared more towards inexperienced users (same as Rayman Legends gamepad player) so it's retreading the Wii with its accessible motion control for all players.

And there's nothing preventing Criterion patching in this official 'trainer' on PC to be used through hotkeys.
