On Rebel FM a few weeks ago he said the (720) controler comes apart in the middle so each hand is holding half. These halves then can be used with the kinect for better motion tracking

Because they are not triggers. Those are GAS PEDALS. Every racing game on PS3 used R2/L2 for gas/brake and it was wayyyy better than X360 controller triggers with click near end

What industry standard? The PS3 and Vita place the sticks in the bottom middle, and the Wii U (tablet and pro) places both sticks at the outside top. MS is the only one that uses an asymmetrical layout.

Sony has no shame. Are they really going to try to sell screens on controllers having seen Nintendo innovate that approach with the WiiU? Ripping off rumble from the N64 controller, motion controls with the Sixaxis, and now SCREENS with this unnamed PS4 controller, I have never been more disappointed. Can they not come up with an innovative idea for once in their companies lives? At least with the Vita they at least tried to innovate with rear touch panel capabilities, but this is just getting ridiculous. Sony I sincerely hope you change your plans while you have the time. Maybe then will I consider dropping money on this travesty.

My prediction is the the touch-pad area is glass because it is transparent and uses the same technology as Leap Motion and can detect your fingers on the surface of the controller as well as hovering above the controller and tracks your finger in 3D space.

Well if you have used the PS3 XMB for the past few years or any other submenu on the Playstation OS, I can see many uses for the touchpad. Also don't forget laptops have been using the touch pad for well over a decade.

Imagine easily navigating webpages, scrolling up and down with touch gestures, double tap for back and forward page navigation etc. browsing Netflix, PS Store, etc. it may be better for media navigation than for games, but I am sure it could also be used for games.

There's definitely a good use for touchpad on a controller, but that all depends on how much and how easily is it implemented with what's on the big screen in front of you.

Let's not pretend using touchpad on the laptop wasn't some torturous experience for everyone and was exactly the reason mini-mouse was created.

I agree with him. The L2/R2 on PS3 made for better racing games. I bet the PS4 will change them up a bit, though.

I don't think it's the camera. That would be a very large stereo base... and I don't think it would be wise to have it included in the console, both for the developers and the gamer : you would want to be able to place it freely without having to face the main hardware.

Trust me sir, you're not the only one disgusted by these tactics.
Rising above the clear corporate machine is something we as gamers must do.
Onward we must push in order to secure a place where we as gamers are no longer taken advantage of.
Look, I know some of you fine folk are okay with blatant plagiarism in the industry.
Let us reject in this instance though the clear shenanigans and gimmickery this controller represents.
I know I won't be there day 1 for PS4's launch.
Nor will I be there for day 2 of PS4's launch.
Gone are the days where honor was a concept that pervaded the Japanese gaming industry.

This whole "symmetrical vs asymmetrical" argument makes no sense. The only reason I want the sticks moved is because it feels more natural to me. Yes, I have symmetrical hands, but I use them asymmetrically all day in almost everything I do.

It has more to do with just random comfort than it does with my hands being "the same".

There is no perfect controller basically.

People speaking to the contrary either haven't left their bubble or are rabid fanboys that should be put down(or at a minimum ignored).

Keyboard mouse conquers all in RTS and most FPS. I personally like the playstation controller for certain games over the 360. But probably overall find myself slightly enjoying the 360 controller more. The wiimote even had its strengths.

The funny thing about Microsoft haters though is that when they developed the Xbox Microsoft very meticulously test marketed their various controller designs and kept revising and revising. Even into the consoles life.

I remember the long article years back explaining in detail just how much effort they put into designing their controller. They tested out one that was basically like the n64, one almost like the dual shock, the dream cast - on and on. The response from consumers was that the majority liked the dream cast layout but hated the way it felt. So they went with a modified version of it.

People then complained it was too big(one of the initial complaints form their groups was that the dual shock was too small). So they sized it down. Then complaints arose of the black and white buttons so they changed that. What they ended up with was the 360 controller. Tested and revised until consumer satisfaction passed all other controllers in their test groups. Hate it all you want(and I certainly have my issues) but its not like it's some abomination that no one likes or never wanted.

They wouldn't be on the console itself in the final version. The functionality would be the same thing as Playstation Eye, Kinect. etc.

It's used in lots of games. In Dishonored it's how you get to the main in-game menu where you review your objectives, upgrade your powers, etc.

Now that all controllers are starting to change and differ from each other, how easy is it for developers to create multi platform games? I mean, the Wii U doesn't get some games, because of the unconventional controller. Even though this might not be the real reason, it is the reason they are giving us. Could this mean that third party exclusive games could make a big comeback next gen, since developers are apparently only willing to invest in one controller method?
