GAF is growing

I only use it for FAQs and for the weekly Bleach OT threads because the butthurt in them is hilarious when Kubo trolls during a chapter.

Starks is that you? Anyways, you think OT's bleach meltdowns are good, you'll love Gafs meltdowns. head on over the manga discussion thread. Every week is rage.

I just said the other day in another thread that it's crazy how much GAF has grown. Threads you thought were the biggest thing ever ever at the time like FFXIII going multiplatform or Stand and Be Counted are relatively small compared to your average big announcement nowadays or even the Playstation Meeting anticipation thread for instance.

I started to lurk/read NeoGAF recently, just a bit before 2012 E3. Read games forums never was something appealing to me until I got here. I was approved pretty fast it took around one month.

Nope, my username here is the same over there.

(And I really need to check out the GAF meltdown thread here then, guessing that's in the Off-Topic Community section?)

Maybe the people you hang with are more easy-going than the ones I hang with, but if you were here with me I'd say you might want to try and break that habit unless you enjoy people talking about you behind your back. Then again we may even be talking about different sorts of "tension-breaking" joking, which range from silly to insulting. I added the "that belittles" qualifier for a reason.

Some people are so uptight that they find any harmless joke as belitteling when they are having a, in their eyes, serious discussion.

Most of my friends and co-workers are pretty easy going luckily, we joke about more or less everything. If you were here with me I'd say you might try and relax unless you enjoy people thinking you have a stick up your ass. ;)

Hey man, it's all about contexts and social queues. Two people don't control a whole room of others, and the same principle goes in a thread. I'm just saying it's unwise to use an oh-so-unique attitude to interject with nothing worthwhile. People in the discussion won't appreciate it, so if it gets any response it will only be from outsiders to derail the discussion with a sideline of mockers. That isn't diffusing any conflict and won't lighten anyone's mood. One can blame it on personality, but sometimes we need to improve our personality to be more sensitive and constructive.

I haven't been a member that long, but in all honesty Neogaf provides me with more entertainment than any other outlet in my life.

Neogaf makes gaming fun for me. I barely actually play games anymore though.

This place is probably the best forum I've ever been on. Well and truly glad I found a place with this level of relative civility and lack of rampant assholishness, though the elitism shows sometimes.

I am one of those GAF lurkers that decided to create an account earlier this year. The quality of the discussion on Neogaf holds up a very high standard, and is (imho) a combination of the good moderation/approval time frame and a collective of individuals that like to discuss what we enjoy. The majority of the users is moving towards the same goal: meaningful discussions. Add to this, the language level is very high in general.

Long story short: There are many factors that co-work to make NeoGAF what it is.

I just started posting the other day because I checked my email and had my gaf confirmation from October of 11 in there.

If they make the documentary a DVD, this should be on the box.

It's odd, I've noticed that the junior influxes have become more frequent and larger but it mostly just recedes into the background after a little while. The laws of GAF-tural Selection mean that many of them self-select for extinction day one, and it's usually only a matter of time. Also I think a lot of people come from smaller communities and try to get noticed here then either get banned or realise that nobody cares about their shtick and give up.

Imagine this but instead of Iwata, it's EviLore and instead of a 3DS it's the new GAFBox.

I've been on GAF since 2003, in the old gaming-age days. I remember talking about Sony's Halo killer "project kin." Hah, old memories. Crazy how long it's been. I mostly lurk but I've checked it probably almost everyday since then. It's pretty cool to see how big Neogaf has become. It also feels weird to see so many junior members all the time now. But GAF has become a pretty big name in the industry, almost all the major gaming sites and game developers come here to lurk or post. It's great.

Even cooler is that I have 3 friends in real life who barely play video games and they only post over in off topic in sports threads and stuff. Neogaf is a cultural icon!

Well while a select group of us were hype-jerking in the X&Y reveal thread for about 3 weeks, I saw about a dozen juniors crop up. Some where old members that didn't post much, others joined to the discussion. But it was actually really nice having some new people bright eyed about game discussion. Those juniors know who they are and they are awesome. We even got a few legends of the poke community joining our humble corner.

Gaf has been a constant in my life since about 2001. I dont post much, mostly lurk, but I really enjoy the gaming news, thread meltdowns, funny pics, bannings, and the overall lulz that this place gives me. I mention Gaf around my wife and kid a lot. Sometimes my son will say "I saw on GAF last night...." and it is usually something that makes no sense. Dont worry, he has never seen Gaf or has no real idea of what it is. He even told me that gaf is going away soon, lol:)

I made an account for VitaGAF, Dead Space 3, and the awesome FG tournament threads. Took me 3 or 4 days to get approved.

I love the GAF community, was lurking during most of 2008 then finally registered in late 2009... I'm still a junior member after 4 years because I don't post that often, but I just love reading all the threads, expert opinions and most of the time I usually get my breaking news on gaming here.

GAF is also great to help the work day go a little bit quicker - I'm sure a fair few others would agree with me, so glad it's not a banned site here otherwise I'd probably go insane. Also as another poster mentioned, it's great knowing all the little injokes and GAF-centred memes that have popped up here.

Also, the gentleman that came up with the mobile optimised site - you are an absolute gem!

This place has news far faster than any other place I used to visit. It's spoilt me to the point where I can't visit places like Kotaku without getting annoyed by days old stories that are seemingly lifted wholesale from here.

Wait, Pachter is making a documentary about GAF? Hell did I miss this? Guy is incorrigible.

No, Pachter just took credit for it. The filmmaker who produces the GameTrailers Shift documentary series is making it, and Pachter is just being interviewed as part of it so that he can insert some troll comments.

Even worse than I imagined. Sheesh. The level of doucebaggery of Pachter climbs.

Yeah this is true, I think it's nice that the process of moderation filtration tends to eliminate the problem juniors pretty fast. If you encounter any creepy fanboy stuff it's often from someone who has been here for a really long time and been banned several times for it already.

Join twitter and sub the neogaf new post account. You'll see exactly when new threads pop up which I find is the best way to get breaking news

I've been here since summer 2010 and I've made 25 posts :(

I view this site everyday at least twice as day as I desperately want to be in the industry and the centralization of news is awesome. Up until recently I never thought I had anything to add so I just didn't post.

I'm over that though. If you don't contribute you're not helping (or learning). Plus I feel bad that I have an account and there are people dying for one.

GAF is basically my portal to the internet at this point. Been here since 2006, and I've learned an embarrassing amount in PoliGAF... to the point that I'm using knowledge gained there in my classes.

Truth is, I only browse GAF. I hate gaming news websites and couldn't care less for them, but GAF members filter out the good stuff and bring em here. Not to mention you can sctually resd something interesting in the comments that follow.

Also, last summer the account removal had shrank to 24 hrs, at the most.

Found out about GAF from the hilarious Bayonetta 2 thread.

Lurked every now and then, didn't decide to make an account until January and that got approved quite fast.

I like the forum, I might not post elaborated posts myself, but I enjoy reading the discussions here.
