As long as I dont wake up to this

In all seriousness, I guess an air detonation is better than a direct impact.

Depends, Tunguska was an air detonation too afaik.

Im pretty sure air explosions are worse than ground hits.

I mean, they make nukes explode above ground to do the most damage, otherwise alot of the energy just goes down into the soil.

Video of it coming in is crazy shit. Just think 30 years ago people would be shitting their pants thinking the US had lost it and were sending in Nukes at Russia

Armageddon out of here! But seriously, this is nothing right? Regular occurrence?
Not exactly. The object itself was probably of a size which enters our atmosphere every year. Just a guess there. But the combination of it happening over a populated area and exploding make this a pretty rare event.

this would scare me shitless. The whole area lighting up like that, fucking crazy

Anyone watch Seeking a Friend for the End of the World? I liked it, it totally bombed in theaters though

That is how I feel the entire government should warn us.

That we only have a few more weeks to live and that they can not do anything about it. Let people live the way they always wanted to do, and let them find their last happiness by doing something they would have normally never done in his or her everyday life.

Are there any estimates of how big this thing was? The large smoketrails and explosion effect makes it seem like it was fairly large.

Doesn't look there is an actual impact, I doubt anything will actually be found on the ground. From the videos it seems to have exploded high up due to atmospheric friction. Awesome to have so many videos documenting it and the blast wave.

Will be interesting to hear the estimated size of the blast.

Phil Plait said on twitter that it was maybe a meter or so across. I think that's just a very early rough guess on his part though.

Does everyone in Russia have a dash mounted camera?

Some folks in here already told you why there are so many dash cams in russia but in case you (or anyone else) want to read more about it, Geek.com covered this just a month ago:

On topic: While I feel sorry for all the people affected by the explosion, I'd love to witness something like this with my own eyes. The most beautiful cosmical(?) spectacle I was able to witness were polar lights in Finland (Kakslauttanen).
