Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

Silent Hill 2 is completely overrated. Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 3 are much better games. Silent Hill 2 does have the best soundtrack, though.

Silent Hill 3 was rushed. It shows in the ending.

Number 2 has the most "realistic" story out of them all, which makes the whole experience.

FFVII isn't overrated, that honor goes to FFVI.

Got a questions about this! Not about VII's relation to VI, but just VII itself. I can remember on forums a decade ago, there were plenty of people still saying that VII was 'the best game ever'. The number of people saying this over the years seems to have decreased dramatically, but I can understand a few older people still holding the opinion.

Are there still people under 15 that say this? Someone who would vehemently argue that no game produced by our species has ever matched its quality? If not (and I imagine it's mostly not), then it certainly is an interesting case from a historical perspective. How tastes, expectations, markets, and memories change over time.

Two years from now, WiiU's total sales will exceed those of PS4 or X720. Three years from now too, if Nintendo pulls their act together. Beyond that, anything is possible, unlike what all the doomsayers would like (you) to believe.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is my favorite Zelda game.
Super Mario Bros. II is my favorite Mario game.
I like the Vita.
I can't stand cutesy games like Yoshi's Island or Pokemon.
Mass Effect is the most overrated series in video game history.
WRPG writing in general is overrated.
Puzzle platformers are awful.

Sony is partly to blame for JRPG makers leaving consoles to go to handhelds. PS1/PS2 was the home for so many and I'm sure many of them (devs) were looking forward to continuing to dev for PS3.
Out it comes, way out of the normal gamer's price range and incredibly to dev for. I honestly believe if the PS3 Slim had been what we saw at PS3 launch console JRPGs would be completely fucking different.

Also, Spec Ops the Line has an incredibly lame, illogical and predictive story. I don't buy into the critique of the industry either. Felt like someone with a bit of influence started putting forth this idea of it being more than it really is and everyone just kind of jumped aboard with the idea.

I just started the PS2 Xenosaga series, and it feels like it drags on foreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever.
Is that normal? Because I only hear good things about it. Right now, though? It feels like a really bad game.

The plot's good and the gameplay's pretty good for the most part, but Shion absolutely ruined the games for me. She's a fucking irrational bitch. Also, Fiora ruined most of Xenoblade for me.

I wish the games had alternative downer endings, where those girls' either suffer a lot or just die.

- I will take pretty visuals over gameplay any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

- I couldn't care less about indie/low-budget games.

- I cannot stand games with old/mid-aged male proganists and/or main playable characters.

- I absolutely detest games with female proganists and/or main playable characters.

- EA/Origin is infinitely better than Valve/Steam in almost every category.
Top-tier troll post. I salute you.

In terms of games, Gamecube was Nintendo's worst non-Virtual Boy console and Wii was the best since the N64 (which had a smaller number of worthwhile games, but more outright classics).

No, it's a really bad game. The whole series is, really. It would be better as a book or visual novel than a game, though it would still be bad. It's got more retconning than an action manga series!

Any company that practices Region Locking needs to be drug out to the street and shot.

Repetitively.

In the balls or feminine equivalent.

I've never finished a 3D Mario or Zelda game. After a few hours find them boring.

Platinum have made some good games but are way overrated.

The only good DMC games are DMC1 and DmC.

Uncharted series is the only good PS3 exclusive. There is a reason why Sony first party titles outside of Uncharted and GT don't sell well.

FFVII is not very good.

Open world games are boring. Never completed one (despite liking the concept)

Sonic Racing Transformed is the best kart racing game ever made.

Crusader Kings 2 has one of the best narratives in gaming.

Want Nintendo to forget the console business and go purely handhelds.

Xenoblade is overrated and overhyped because of the whole not coming to America thing.

Dark Souls is overrated.

Don't like RE4. Never have... not sure if I ever will.

There are better pure action games that do action/shooting/crazy shit better.

There are better horror games that do tension/story/everything else better.

It just didn't feel like a resident evil game and I didn't want any part of it. Played it for maybe an hour or two at a friends house. Set it down and never touched it again.

Heh, I did the exact same thing. My roommate saw me playing it and how I never touched it again. He picked up where I left off and couldn't put the game down. He loved it.

Maybe I stopped too early but that was easily the most boring, uninteresting RE game that I have ever played.

Mario Sunshine is the best Mario game. Galaxy 1 and 2 are no good (just could not get into them).

Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword are terrible Zelda games (but good games).

Player controlled cameras ruin most games and shouldn't be implemented unless absolutely necessary. Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising, etc. would be much better games with a proper camera system like God of War. Also, Resident Evil 4 and 5 are the only 3rd person shooters that get the camera and controls balanced properly.

I completely agree that SotN hurt castlevania more than helped it.

I dunno if classic Castlevania would live into continuing generations because it's pretty arcadey. I'd place it similar to the Ghosts and Goblins/Ghouls and Ghosts and they only got a few releases, and eventually evolved into 3d with the Maximo series to keep up with the perceived value of other games of the PS2 era. At best classic Castlevania could live on as small downloadable titles or handheld games.

GTA IV is a poorly designed piece of crap. The world is dull and lifeless yielding zero reward for exploration or experimentation. The gameplay is scripted inflexible bullcrap and the controls are terrible.

Games like burnout paradise have little touches and treats round every corner, it's fun to drive round and I get overwhelmed trying to discover everything. In GTA I tried to check out lots of things but they were all dead ends, lifeless.

Saints row controls so much better and it's missions are so much more imaginative and entertaining. It's a world that has been populated by really fun things to see and do.

Case in point, GTA let me run up about 10 flights in an apartment block to be greeted by a dead end. Then I had to just run all the way back down. Terrible terrible design. I spent about half an hour exploring a construction yard and climbed the crane for a good 5 minutes. There was nothing there. No jump, nothing to snipe, no sights to see. Awful.

I've been flamed a lot for sharing these opinions.
*sigh* Ok. here I go:

* Mass Effect 2 was a disappointing third person
RPG lol
dating simulator and huge downgrade of what made ME1 so great, story and gameplay wise. how did it win many GoTY awards? I don't have a clue.

* CoD multiplayer sucked since CoD 4. and by "since CoD 4" I mean including it. it brought the broken killstreak and perk system that encourages camping regardless of what game mode you're playing in. not to mention it's other problems: imbalanced weapon damage, bad recoil and reloading, horrible map design, weak host and migration system and hacks.
one of the worst multiplayer games I've ever played. the worst part is that most multiplayer FPS games is trying to copy it.

* Xbox Live is one of the worst thing that happened to the gaming industry. not being able to play online without paying $60 $45/year is a joke. I don't give two poops about the other worthless services that a gold membership provides. even half that price isn't worth paying for only playing online.
I was part of the problem used to pay for it back in the days; Halo 2 and Halo 3 were the best multiplayer games that I've ever experienced on consoles. and after my friends stopped playing them, I found no reason to continue paying for this rip off service.

* Brink is my 2011 multiplayer GoTY and it's better than any multiplayer game that came out that year.

* Bad Company and every game that came after it aren't true Battlefield games. BF2142>=BF2>Life>>>BF:BC>>>>>>>>>>>>poop>>>BF:BC2

* I can't find the logic from where people criticizes Assassin Creed 1 for being repetitive and, at the same time, praises AC2. AC2 changes didn't add anything significant from what the first game had, ending with almost the same gameplay experience. at least AC story and settings were a lot interesting. and AlTair was way cooler than Ezio.

* Resident Evil 4 ruined the franchise. not saying that it's bad, but I'll take old school RE style gameplay over RE4 any day.

* just because you can exploit the junction system in Final Fantasy 8
by following a GameFAQ guide
doesn't mean that the game is broken. it's a single player game, not a multiplayer game where a 12 year old can ruin your day with it. the same can be said with Dragon Age: Origin.

* come on guys. DMC 2 wasn't that bad!!!

It's the result of trying to be grounded in realism. GTA3, VC and SA didn't have that problem and were free to put in crazy stuff wherever they want.

Gears of War and Halo are boring as shit and have terrible SP campaigns when you play them alone.

Also Mass effect 2 is way better than me1 and 3. It is also better than 95% of games that released this gen. It is also one of the best games of all time.

Halo CE is definitely boring.

And yes, ME2 is the best in the series.

Completely agreed. Bought a 360 to check out these two franchises and damn was it a bad decision.

in term of narrative it was a bold move and it worked.
The only people who dislike this twist are too attached to star ocean 2 because it undermine some events in that game when in reality nothing of value was changed by this twist

I disliked it because it was a dumb twist. Nothing else to it.

SO2's story was horrible, I played it mostly for the gameplay.

Microsoft is a terrible company, and I really hope the next Xbox is a flop as I would take genuine pleasure at seeing their $60 a month for online empire crumble to the ground. Just sell the controller design and drop out you greedy bastards.

Mass Effect 1 is a really dated game, and anybody who says the sequel isn't better in every conceivable way, mechanically at least, is kidding themselves.

3D Mario will always be better than 2D Mario.

I think people who pine on Half Life 3, Last Guardian and Versus are some of the funniest people on the internet.

Tablet gaming is as much of a fad as the Brain Age/Nintendogs craze was. People always want new things.

Devs like Cliffy B that talk shit about other games when they haven't made anything decent in ages are the worst kind of people

Too many "this game actually rules, that game actually sucks." Let's get some bigger picture stuff in here:

* Everyone bitched for over a decade about how games weren't mainstream, and now that they are, they complain that games are made to cater to that audience. Well guess what? It's your own damn fault.

* Achievements actively hurt the flow of games by altering the way people play them.

Spec Ops: The Line had the best storytelling in any game released last year. Yes, I'm putting this over The Walking Dead and Journey.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is my favorite game of any genre that has Mario in it
Super Mario Galaxy is a close second
.

Spec Ops was far too heavy handed and masturbatory for its own good. John Konrad is a complete missed opportunity of a character and the twist ending dissolves any good will it had while also undermining the themes from earlier. Kane and Lynch 2 is far better at exploring roughly the same concepts(and also has the best art direction/visuals this gen).

AlttP is not a good zelda game and damaged the franchise beyond repair from the new fans it brought in expecting later games to be like it.
Fixed.

FFXII was the best FF since 6.
That's not conversial, that's the truth.

- Prince of Persia 2008 is the best Prince of Persia
- Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts is a wonderful game
- Half-Life 2 is not the ultimate masterpiece some like to claim. The episodes, though, are nearly perfect, especially Ep2.
- Kameo: Elements of Power is one of the best Rare games ever created.
- Oracle of Ages is the best 2D-Zelda ever made.

I strongly believe that modern Nintendo has become a barrier for Zelda's evolution.

Nintendo games have become conservative, unambitious, casualized and, instead of pushing design and technology like they used to, are trying to get away by putting too much emphasis on gimmicks.

Nintendo's modern approach on gaming may be fine when it comes to games like Animal Crossing, Nintendoland, or Wii Sports, but Zelda is a franchise with different needs.

He said storytelling though, not story.

I like Sony and my PS3 and have been with PS since I was a kid but damn it their exclusives aren't anything special, with the exception of PS1 era Crash Bandicoot & Spyro and Uncharted.

I think Nintendo gets far too much bloody slack for lack of innovation in their IPs, especially Zelda.

1 - Half Life 2 is just an average FPS and nothing more... cant believe it won game of the decade beating other titles like Resident Evil 6, Super Mario Galaxy, Bioshock and so on.

2 - Journey is an absolute borefest, incredible short where you just push the stick forward to win. You are playing with strangers that beep every second and are the same people that troll and play games like Call of Duty online with you, they are not special individuals to make special relationships with you like Ghandi or the Pope. They accompany you during your journey because in later stages thats all thats left to do, just run forward.

@ runs away
