NVIDIA to release GeForce Titan

8pyDhAz.jpg

I'm sure most of you have read this, since the pictures above are posted from that same site. And it's nothing new really. Just figured I would post it (yep, that bored waiting for this lol).

I'd only be running a one monitor setup, but the biggest concern is that I'm probably going to nab a bigger display with a higher res than 1080p sometime in the next year.

Eh, but then, I suppose I can always upgrade when the real new shit comes out, cuz I'll be out of school, and a baller.

Real newshit is expected to be Fall 2014 at the earliest, and even then the Titan will outperform all but whatever they price at $700+. You'll enjoy 2 years on the top of the performance hill for single-gpu cards, and near the top for another 2 years.

BUT...if you don't have the setup to take advantage of it, it may be better to get a 670 or 680 which are almost overkill for ~1080p as it is.

And even then I'd argue for the 670 over the 680 for most people :P
Agree completely. You definitely don't need this card for playing Call of Duty/Assassin's Creed/League of Legends/Dota2/Batman. That's for damn sure.

I know people don't like SLI because of the sometimes microstutter (or I guess the perceived always microstutter, as we have now determined that some people can't see it, whereas others can) - but in terms of the price/performance ratio, if the Titan rumors end up being true, it just kills me how you could possibly pay the same price, and beat the titan if you only SLId.

That said, I don't like to judge. As I said a couple pages back, I hate when people try to tell others what they should "value". Or what something is "worth to them". So I can actually understand why some would stay away from SLI, as they have their own preferences. I guess I'm just glad I don't notice microstutter, because SLI (currently) seems like the cheapest way to get the best performance possible. Although again, I guess "best" is subjective. To those that notice Microstutter, higher FPS doesn't mean squat if a game has MS. Anyways, not to start up another heated debate. I think we all know some prefer Single GPU to SLI setups. I was just hoping for a single GPU card, Titan would pack a little more.

Maybe it will. But I'm starting to think it won't. Is it unrealistic to expect a single GPU to reach 690 performance any time soon? Or will we see that in the 700 series? (Bold to skip my rambling to get to my point).

This is how it always is, though. The option to have a single card with a single GPU will always be a value unto itself and typically preferable. It gives you the best options for future expansion.

It's like...think about it like memory. Hypothetical: you have a laptop with 2 ram slots. Sure, you could buy 2 8GB memory sticks for less than one 16GB stick and get the same performance as that 16GB stick would have offered, but there are distinct advantages to a single 16GB stick. The ability to add another 16GB stick later without any wasted money, for example.

In the case of the Titan, we're also getting a faster interface, considerably more memory, and a much lower power draw than an SLI or dual-gpu setup would give. In addition to better stability and no concerns over microstuttering and other issues endemic to SLI/dual-gpu gaming.

Great post. I liked the way you put it.

My only issue with the whole "future expansion" w/ Titan - is that it seems to be a VERY limited run. So if you don't get two now, your chances of getting one later down the line is slim.

So if you only get one, your just kind of stuck with it.

There will always be an aftermarket for these products. By the time graphics are being pushed hard enough for you to need TWO of these...you'll be able to get one off of eBay for a reasonable price.

True, I suppose. I guess my point is (personally, and I know this is just my own preference) - I'm weary of getting a limited run of something, because it would be harder to expand it in the future (unlike a flagship series/model).

That's why for me, if a single Titan was better than what I have now, I would have been happy getting one - and just riding it out until the next series, or whenever I felt I needed to upgrade. In order to beat what I have now (if again, the rumors are true) - then it would mean getting two. But given my money situation, it would mean getting ONE Titan now - and trying to get a second on later. So the risk seems a lot higher.

But even outside myself, I think, if you were always going to just get one of these, it kind of stinks that you would have to look to the aftermarket to expand further on it in the future. Just me though.

I'd take limited with a big grain of salt.
As the production of tesla cores improves they will have more that they can sell on profesional market.

Oh well yea, if you have something really good now, it's a non-issue. Just pass. If I had an SLI 680 or 690 right now, I wouldn't even look at this thread. I don't, so it's interesting to me.

Anyone looking to sell an old 680, I'm in the market. Looking for 4gb.

That Titan looks damned sexy, but my wallet is crying at the thought of the potential price tag.

*glances at SLI GTX 670s...*

Switch out for Titans? Do I dare?

If I was in your situation, I would ask myself the following questions:

* Do I have the money?

* More specifically do i have the extra money to spend (That won't impact me financially)?

* Is there anything else I could buy, that would better suit my money?

If you can say Yes, Yes, No. Then why not.

I have always had issues with multiple GPU setups, so this card looks like it would be my dream come true. Too bad it is more than I am willing to spend on a graphics card at this time.

For any of you that do happen to make the jump up to the Titan and want to make back some of your investment, I am in the market to upgrade my 480 to a 680 for a good price.

If yields are bad at this size, and heat is an issue when concentrated in one spot, why not go super-SLI? Have like 16 or more lower powered GPUs on a card?

I'm pretty sure SLI barely scales past 2 or 3 GPUs, so I very much doubt that they'd be able to make use of a 16-GPU card effectively.

Hopefully EK has waterblocks and backplates ready for these tomorrow. Hopefully it's a 2 limit purchase and not 1 on these bad boys. Can't wait!

The generally well understood rules for SMP applied to general competing tasks are why. Scaling is always <100% and stacking more and more GPUs eventually gives a return of 0%.

Very true. Unfortunately I have a sickness with this hobby and like torturing myself. :p

Same with me. I currently have a GTX 690 under water, overclocked to it's maximum on both memory and the core, but yet, I want a Titan, actually 2 of them! Even with my mighty 690 and a I73930x OC to 4.8, I still cant get 60fps constant at 1080p in Uber mode on Witcher 2. Will 2 Titans finally be able to deliver that??? lol

They're only making 10000 of these. I'm sure they'll go for 4Gb chips for the 700 series next year.

I don't doubt that. Just more worried the PS4 will be more expensive if the 4Gb chips aren't ready in time.

A funny thing about this GPU. A lot of people were expecting the next gen consoles to have a GPU up to 250W TDP... I hope they see this card to see how unrealistic that was!

Whelp. Reviews will either be up in 2.5 hours or 11.5.

Still no word on exacts.

Damn....I would think that we would know if will be tonight or in the 11 or so hours.

Some inside info I did find from an on-line retailer. Initial quantities are extremly limited as in as little as 2,000 GPU's and that is it. From what I was told, this is the first batch, so if the rumors of a total 10,000 allocation, there will be only 2k for the launch.
