The fiance and I were both yelling "NO Don't do it" when Russo was at the hotel room door. Damn, Stamper is a loyal motherfucker.

Seems like he's excessively loyal based on something in the past; I wonder if they'll dwell on this at all. Frank moves up in the world, Stamper moves up in the world.

Stamper/Full Season spoilers
There's something about Doug being in AA and sober that I think are our clues as to why he's so loyal to Frank. We know that Frank understands that loyalty of his caliber is not cheap. He's basically "I owe him my life" loyal, and I have a feeling his alcoholism had to have been a part of that.

Just went through this entire series over the weekend, and I was not disappointed. More than anything, the efficiency of every episode was outstanding because they didn't have to give a damn about "previously, on House of Cards" or make references/flashbacks for new viewers week to week. It was refreshing. Aside from Episode 11, and of course Episode 13, I didn't feel like I had any cliffhangers purposely dangled in front of me to keep me coming back.

Also, I want more Freddy!
 
not finished yet, but I just wanna say this show knows how to use smartphones

some shows when they answer the phone its either its on the menu, lockscreen, or photo mode.

Also no fake blown up txt msg. it is wat u see on ur iPhone

My minor quibble with the smartphones is with Zoe....

When Frank calls it says "Frank Underwood". Not really good for keeping your sources and such secret if need be. Not even a code name!

They're not in your face about it either. In other shows the producers have to provide exposition for what an iPhone can do for older and younger audiences. In HOC, it's just a smart phone.

This show has grabbed me like few others have, so I marathoned through 6 episodes in my first sitting. The power plays are fascinating to watch.
 
It took me like 9 episodes to notice the US flag is upside down in the opening credits sequence.

Anyway, finished the entire season. Absolutely fantastic. Cant wait for the next season.
 
I don't know why AV Club has always been so down on House of Cards, but I can only imagine it's because of ridiculously high expectations or their incredible distaste towards a pro-consumer delivery method.

Or maybe the show just isn't that good. A B- is just about right, though I'd probably give it a C+

It's not perfect, and I'd give it around a B+ myself, but when you compare it to what else is on TV... I mean, basically only Mad Men is better. (I don't watch Boardwalk though...)

edit: And I only pinpoint that review in particular because VanDerWerf loved Homeland S2. I fucking defended that season to death but in the end, even I couldn't deny it was shit.
 
I loved the show a lot, but after the third episode, things seem to unravel. I can't describe it in detail, but I noticed a slow decline in the show's writing.
 
Absolutely enraptured by this show, and as such made a point to watch the original British version. It's actually better than the US version in some respects, has anyone else watched it? Bear in mind, I haven't watched "To Play The King" or "The Final Cut".

They're both very good, I think the US version shades it.
I've started watching To Play The King, and the King is just a bad Prince Charles impression (Speech and mannerism-wise).
 
Finished this last night. Really good shit. My only beef was that
Stamper didn't take care of Russo
. They already established that Frank doesn't get down in the dirt earlier. Why throw it away and make the protagonist hard to root for so early?
 
I'm a sap...I know but WTF, I liked Underwood until he did the unthinkable for his own good. It pissed me off. Interested to see the second season but I am likely going to hate the main character from this point forward.

That is some great foreshadowing, the show really gives the impression of Russo killing himself throughout this season. With Frank giving him the razor and then him drunk in the shower in episode 10, only to bite the dust on Francis's hand.
 
If it's deliberate, then that's even worse! I really like how the series hasn't needed to rely on artificial cliffhangers between episodes; not to mention, that particular instance was pointless since you could just watch the next episode 5 seconds later.

...he wasn't hard to root for after the dozen other things he did prior to that? He's a power hungry asshole.
 
Woaaaah can't wait for season 2!!

This show is like the best political thrillers stretched over 13 episodes. Yes there are one or two slow episodes but over all this is a bloody good show. Can't believe this is Netflix's very first show.

I loved how they integrated the use of technology (smartphones, PS3 etc.) without any awkwardness.
 
Up to Episode 12, one more to go!

Can't believe Frank went that far. But it looked like he made the decision last-minute when Russo refused to drop out. Until that moment, it just seemed like a manipulation play. Seems that the decision bothers him though.

it was pretty clear once he saw the bathtub that nobody was there. Up until that point though, you were supposed to think he killed himself. Additionally that Stamper guy is the lowest of the low. He is a machine of emptiness and evil. He has done some terrible shit with Russo and that Hooker this season and he does it in such an unflinching way. Frank at least has some charisma and fake morality.

Re: Stamper.
I dunno, there's something to be said for unwavering loyalty. I'd certainly respect him more than a sellout like Remy, for example. I really hope we learn more about him in S2 though, we've really only scratched the surface of that character.

His character will be interesting when he finally snaps and shows some humanity. I can see him being critical as a source of information.

I really hope Season 2 reveals
that Claire knows Frank killed Russo. It just seems like her find out later and it driving a wedge between them is too obvious of a route to go.
