Kotaku Rumor: PS4 out in November, control with your phone/tablet, maybe $429/529

But you would have to retool an entire game to work with just a single analog stick. Not fun.

Well you had to, yeah. Since Vita has two analogue sticks and the rear touch for L2/R3 (front corners for L3/R3?), they no longer have much on an excuse.

Honestly cloud saving alone is worth enough price tag for me. Beside for people who already own PS3 and Vita, PS plus is just an awesome service. Now for people who want to have nothing but PS4, it may not be a compelling option.

Are cloud saves available to Xbox Live Silver members or is that behind the paywall. I have Gold and have no clue what silver gets.

Improved how? Looks the same to me.

The triggers in that new image are really clearly not the same as the DS3 triggers. I don't know if they are better (some people have said they have been fixed) but they are certainly different in that prototype.

i literally just bought a 6950 for $100. you can top the PS4 GPU for a lot less than you're implying, with a good mid-tier mobo & uncerclocked sandy bridge. much larger HDD, and if you shop around, all shipped for well under $1000.

agreed, but your argument was simply cost & performance, the fact that console parts are specific/cost more is part of why you're clearly wrong here man. i'm simply saying if you're spending north of a grand to top these specs, you're buying a marked-up packaged deal at retail or otherwise spending poorly.

Well if you are looking for sales and deals thats another discussions. Im talking about MSRP.

Sony won't charge online. Everything else looks awesome. Controller looks sweet. The problem with the triggers was NEVER their shape style (although a little upcurve lip at the end woulda been nice) but rather their button press. As long as they fix that, they can make the triggers look however they want.

People are ignoring the fact that first image shows the new improved triggers.

Apologies to the mods for bolding my own sentence but I think its justified here. People are not noticing.

Those triggers are improved but they still arent designed as they should be......like the ones on the 360 controller.

Source seems to be a developer, based on the devkit shots so... Developer GAF:

Is a new console's price and online pricing strategy normally something a console manufacturer would inform you of?

I can't see how it would impact the game development process, so it seems unlikely. The launch date, on the other hand, is something that developers absolutely need to know, so I'd think that part of the rumor is reliable.

no.

You guys kill me. Everyone that's saying they won't purchase a PS4 if online play is a pay feature will be talking about how they impulse purchased a PS4 after you see how much fun us day 1 purchasers are having.

Sony knows this, too.

Yes it does!

You would not need a SLI or crossfire config to beat what is pretty much a HD7850!

The CPU is a fusion hybrid thats in the PS4. Like I said, some of you guy really dont understand that these consoles have modify parts. You cant just get a HD7850 expect the same performance level if you dont upgrade the rest of your rig.

ah, you didn't say as much, so i misunderstood...carry on then!

Not a problem and I do agree you can find some great deals out there.

The rumor mentions that most online features are locked behind a sub. Last time I checked most of the online features on PS3 are locked behind PS+ (Cloud saves, Instant game collection, automatic updates/patches, and automatic trophy syncs ect.) while Multiplayer, chat, and Netflix, ect are not. they are probably just adding more features to PS+. Hope I am right.

Good god no, the 360 click triggers are shit.

We're not talking about 360's bumpers. We're talking about the triggers.

Personally I'd prefer buttons instead but if you're going to have triggers, then at least do it the 360 way.

"Orbis is also following the path first set by Xbox Live: our source says "most" of the PS4's online features will require a premium subscription to use. Sony's new online service will be called PlayStation World, our source says, replacing PlayStation Plus'

Hmmm I sure as fuck hope Sony doesn't copy MS by putting media services such as netflix, internet browsing and online play behind a paywall. Things like game streaming, beta participation and the current plus game rentals, discounts, whatever else is included should be the paid services. Christ I wouldn't care if they chucked all kinds of party chat behind the paywall, but it makes no sense to make media app a paid service.

So an account for most of online features, and the system might be over $400?

If this is true, next-gen is fucked again. These companies are fucking stupid at this point.

The problem with your thinking is that there will be no Free Games when the PS4 launches b/c there will be no games to give away. Then the problem becomes "how do you get people to subscribe without compelling features?".

Don't tell me that you would pay for the other three, because that is just ridiculous.

If we assume that I'm not already paid up on plus for a while...

I could see them having a couple games released from their first party studios that are free with plus right out of the gate. You think they care about a game/port gong for free if it hooks you on the paid service? Cell phones are not cheaper with contract because carriers are generous.

Day 1: Killzone 3 HDX/PSABR HDX free on day one. Sure, alone it's not insanely compelling, but with other nice features, I'd bite. Especially in good faith of past performance.

Yes not sure what Kotaku is talking about.

Xboxgaf seems to wish everyone has to pay for online mp to feel better themselves. You will have to wait, that won't happen.

This

It's been obvious for a while now that some people have been hoping Sony charged for online, just so Microsoft's fee suddenly seems justified.

Sony is not going to charge for online play. You can try and argue all you want it's the same thing, but it's not. Online play is the key reason people play for Live.

That won't happen and it will sell out anyway.

I wish I were that optimistic. If these details are true, I think Sony may be in some trouble.

It looks cheap because it's not glossy.

It's probably a matte texture like finish that you see used on most gaming keyboards and mice, and if so, I'm OK with that.

They can charge for whatever "online features" they want to, just so the multiplayer of said games is still free.

I meant, that a lot of things start free and end up costing money later. PS3 and Vita would have been the test phase and PS4 when Sony starts monetizing it.

Oh, okay. Well, the big difference is that Vita will continue to be a current gen system alongside PS4, unlike the PS3.

I was just joking. I do think they will charge for online play. I look at the vita as an extension to the ps3 psn. When PSN version 2.0 comes out it will be very similar to XBL because sony needs that money.

I still don't believe that, because the Vita will live alongside PS4 as current gen systems; the PS3 will be a last gen system. Vita already has far more features than PS3 has, so I think if Sony has two current gen systems out (PS4 and Vita), and one has XBL-level features and is completely free, and the other costs money to even play online, there will be WAY too much uproar.

That really depends on what games they'll have for D1.

$429 is too rich for my blood. I guess I'll be waiting on price drops. Please god don't show Versus or Kingdom Hearts 3 tomorrow.

The person that does not understand is you!

Being close to the CPU will not fucking help the GPU with rendering tasks!
