Capcom's Deep Down announced (Panta Rhei, Capcom's new engine) [Up: Video]

I said "bullshit" when that camera started moving like that. That was some 2005 vintage "LOOK AT WHAT GAMES WILL BE LIKE IN THE NEXT GENERATION!" video makin'.

Technology-wise, sure, I can believe PS4 can reach that, but trying to pass it off like gameplay with a dinky little HUD and that animation was insulting.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought. Everything about the demo screamed "CGI Target Render", nothing looked real time.

A few seconds before this, the camera seemed to move in a way that seemed very in-game. I'm hoping it was in-game as it doesn't make sense to debut a game engine with CG.

Diminishing returns they said!

But seriously, anyone have any ideas about the text message stuff at the end? I assume it's a nod to the PS4's sharing capabilities they talked about earlier but that UI seemed oddly over designed and the helicopter sound at the end must have been for a reason.

This and Second Son were my favorite parts about the conference. I am extremely excited for both games and can't wait to learn more about them.

It looked amazingly impressive but it was a trailer and you know....it can be polished as much as they want.
Other developers showed real gameplay from alpha code.
Btw it was really nice to see that Capcom has their next gen engine ready as well.

I believe it was real time (due to the new engine shown as some said) maybe pre-rendered but those effects were unbelievable! For me it was the best game visually at the conference. We are reaching the era were the gap between cgi and ingame real time graphics is slowly dissapearing .

Im skeptical. Gives me a Killzone 2 trailer vibe.

I think most of this was either heavily tingled with in post or just non-controlled real time cutscenes. The HUD looked thrown in there to make it look like someone was controlling what was happening but there was no hint of a preset animation or anything like that.

edit: oh yeah could have just posted this

It looks really scripted. Like the knight would make an action, then an event would play out, then the knight would make another action.

I'd hate to see this as a Dragon's Dogma successor, at least in its current state. It seems restricted as hell.

When this was shown, I had flashbacks to the Vita thread where people where saying: Another MH Clone for vita!
Anyways, this is real time? It didn't look like that to me =S

I'm sure this was real time, whether it's real time on a PS4 devkit or not. The reason this game looked much more impressive than the others is because it is using small interiors where as most everything else was showing big open locations. I like the look of it a lot. Mine of moria the game. Destructable brilliantly lit monster filled dungeons. It could be pretty amazing.

this was my favorite thing... not sure what it even is... but uh that was fuck awesome whatever it was.

Yeah, curious to see if this what it will actually look like but I wonder what that ending was all about?

The digitized fonts and weird social messaging thing struck me as odd. Likely a nod to the PS4's emphasis social features and the possibility that the game has co-op. But then that helicopter noise was strange too.

No reason for this to not be real time guys.

1- Enclosed environments = massive leverage to use memory to do pretty much anything imaginable in terms of shaders, textures, environment, etc.
2- Very controlled environment to do all sorts of optimizations, etc.
3- Almost no characters on screen.

There's no reason that this can't run in real-time. Their depth of field even looks rather bad in the torch part (gif above).
