Monster Hunter 3 3DS is going online through Wii U

Wii U Exclusive Software "Packet Relay Tool" is now available!

"Packet Relay Tool" is software to enable internet play in the 3DS game "Monster Hunter 3G".
By connecting with the "Packet Relay Tool", you can form parties of up to 4 people for co-op play with players far away, anywhere they are.

Things to look out for
- Only one 3DS can be connected to a single Wii U at any one time.
- The Wii U Software "Monster Hunter 3G HD Ver." can't be booted up while the tool is in use.
- In order to play over the internet, at least one person among the maximum of 4 that are playing must own the Wii U Software "Monster Hunter 3G HD ver.". The tool is designed to let you connect to a room created by a Wii U version player, and cannot create rooms by itself.
- You can't play the game with just this software.

What you need to play online
In order to use this software to connect "Monster Hunter 3G" online, the following is necessary:

- 1 Wii LAN Adapter
- 1 LAN Cable
- 1 Wii U with this software installed
- 1 Nintendo 3DS/LL
- 1 copy of 3DS Software "Monster Hunter 3G"

Thanks, Zenaku!

It's one way to try and shift Wii U's in Japan. They should have saved it for Monster Hunter 4 though to really gouge them.

So i can play online in bed afterall? Awesome. A shame you still need a Wii U to do it though, but at least gone people will be able to get away with just buying the 3DS game.

This is weird, with MH4 being natively online and launching in May.

Did anyone get exactly how this will function? Do you need to buy an adapter and plug it in your Wii U? That better be one cheap adapter.

This is even worse than Adhoc Party, only a single game, and you need to buy a LAN adapter because Nintendo's too cheapo to put an ethernet port in their home consoles? Ehhhh...

The 3DS has wifi right? Why should I need a WiiU to play it online?

Probably has to do with how the 3ds version of the game is coded (only local mp, connection to the Wii U)

It's almost exactly like AdHoc Party was for the PS3. You plug an ethernet cable into the Wii U (which requires the LAN adapter, since they didn't include an ethernet port), and then the Wii U uses the built-in Wi-Fi to transfer the multiplayer signal to and from your 3DS.

But if you have to be connected to your Wii U... why not just get the game for the Wii U? O.o
Because that way you can play it on the go, but then bring it home and play online with your friends, without buying two copies.

Monster Hunter 4 is online through the 3DS alone.

This is literally an ad-hoc ad-hoc solution because people asked for it. MH3G for the 3DS is a local multiplayer-only game. This is a nice gesture retroactively fitting the game with online. They're righting the wrong fully with 4 being all-online, but this is a workaround for people who really want to play the 3DS version online or a 3DS player and Wii U on the same couch playing online together.

The game has been confirmed NOT to be online from the start, so this is a bonus for the specially interested.

No, you still have to buy the Wii U game. The Adhoc support requires that you have a copy of the Wii U version. It's just a convenience thing, so you don't have to go through the transfer process.

I don't know how difficult the save file syncing is between the 3DS and the Wii U game.

Info from people translating said specifically you don't need the WiiU game

But OP implies that's not possible.

I'm seriously hoping this is not the case. It would be perfect for my current scenario where my friend wants his girlfriend to join in with our monster hunting when it launches, but she only currently has a 3DS, and it'd be a bit of a waste of money to get a 2nd WiiU.

I am confused. Do I need the Wii U version or not?

NO

And one person means one 3DS. You can play two people locally (wiiu+3ds) together online.

It 100% works. The only uncertainty is we haven't heard anything about a western release. Can't see any reason why we wouldn't get it, though.

Seems like a tunneling server for the 3G adhoc multi.

So basically this is AD-Hoc party Nintendo style XD, cept you need a special LAN Adaptor this time lmao, hope if can be used for other games though.

It's really a cheap ass solution. Can't they patch the frakking 3DS game?

Look at this mess. You need the Wii U (the Wii could habe done it too but NO) to do the proxy, but the wireless WiFi card is reserved to communicate with the 3DS, and the 3DS only. Solution? The LAN adapter that doesn't come in standard with the system. So the Wii U connect to the internet with the LAN USB adapter, and connect to the 3DS via wifi.
How many people outside Nintendo and Capcom will use this? 5, 6 persons?

Seriously, why not patching the game?!!

Because the 3DS doesn't have NNIDs. The online wouldn't work.
