So about that Vita?

I hope they push remote play more with the PS4/Vita. It was barely non existent for PS3/PSP/Vita.

Would love to play home console games portable while watching TV etc, one of the tempting things about the Wii U to be honest.

Bought a Vita at launch and a few games. Enjoyed it and played quite a lot in the start. Didn't use it that much until PS+ came to Vita. So far I've gotten Uncharted, Wipeout, Lumines and Gravity Rush for free. So if Sony doesn't give a shit, I ain't even mad. I'll use it to stream PS4 games to my bed.

They didn't talk about Vita because it was a conference for a the reveal of the PS4, of course they weren't going to announce new Vita games.

Y'all just be pissed if they did, anyway. Wait for E3/Gamescom (probably more Gamescom).

Vita is dead? Give me a break.
With a price drop, the remote play feature alone will be a great reason to get one even if people only plan to use it just as a controller around the house or to play at work.
Also they're obviously going to evolve the system firmware tremendously do accommodate this and all the social networking integration they're planing.
If they decide to turn it into a full standalone Gaikai supported device, it will be even greater value.
This will definitely help to sell some Vitas. And with more systems out there, the more appealing it becomes to developers and publishers.
The Vita isn't going anywhere.
connectivity with PS4 is not going to sell any more Vitas. you're thinking too much like a person on a videogame message board and not like the average joe. if you want to argue that Sony can save Vita, you'd want to address the issue of publishers and retailers, both of which want little to do with Vita. slow sales will continue to lead to less support will continue to lead to slow sales leads to retailers reducing inventory or not restocking, etc. failure breeds more failure, and Vita has been in this vicious cycle since about 2 weeks after launch.

"I hope they ONLY talk about PS4 at this meeting or I'll be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissed."

"WTF WHERE WAS VITA???!?! LOL DED"

Yay?

My post history is there, please go find where I hoped that they wouldn't talk about Vita.
And people are delusional if they think people will shell out 200 bucks for another peripheral on an already crazy expensive new machine.

Entire genres without exclusives though, namely RPGs and fighters. That's got to hurt the appeal a bit. I have a couple of ports on the Vita, but I wouldn't have bought the device for them.

P4G is an exclusive, unless you can play this version of the game else where? I can assure you that you can not at this point. Digaea 3 is also the full game + all the DLC, so it's a better value. The of course there's Soul Sacrifice if you need an exclusive RPG.

Fighting games are never/rarely exclusive to any platform, not any of the relevant ones.

That's all well and good but unfortunately you're not getting many more because the system is a disaster and most of the ones you have got can be played elsewhere

P4G is a port. An enhanced port, yes, but not exclusive by any meaningful definition. And Disgaea 3 is also "last year's model", superceded by Disgaea 4. You know, on the PS3 where you can also play Disgaea 3. Where's that port by the way?

Actually I just realised that since both Everybody's Golf and Project Diva have been ported to the PS3 in Japan I now own zero Vita exclusives. Thank goodness for Senran Kagura. Love the device but its library is crap.

how did people get that the vita is dead from the PS4 Reveal event?!?!

some peoples logic in here is crazy it's almost like they want it to fail or something...

Im probably getting one. The games look way more appealing than the 3ds even if they're ports. I cant play most of them on the go which is the whole point of getting a handheld.

The only reason 3ds is selling is because little kids are buying it. Dont confuse this with it having some awesome robust game library, lol. The only reason Vita isn't selling is because older gamers mostly use their mobile phones for gaming.

As I Vita owner I am not feeling great. In the future the only game I am really looking forward to is Soul Sacrifice. Aside for that it is ups a Super PS1/PSP for download games. Something I can easily do on the 2 PSPs I own.

Sony made several statements indicating that they are not abandoning the platform, on top of the full PS4 remote play, they also said E3 for new Vita software.

I was pretty thrilled with the level of support they showed today.

Apparently it only works locally for PS4 games.

It should work over a network, they just used the kids thing as an example.

Because that is how they worded it in the press event. That the PS4 acts like a local server for it. Just like remote play tends to work across all electronic devices (airplay and so on).

If Sony came up with some brand new unheard of remote streaming for it that works anywhere they would have said so.

They had 500,000 people watching (in the USA only) and no competition. It wouldn't have killed them to throw the Vita at least a couple of bones. Or a montage. Or SOMETHING. This was supposed to be the "PlayStation Meeting," after all.

All they got is "Vita can stream PS4 games through remote play."

look- that conference went on for two hours and STILL people were complaining that they didn't get enough information. spending more than 5 seconds on the Vita would have sent those people into a murderous rage.

All the attention here was for the PS4 and what it could do. sony made the right call here.

Wow... the OP seems so keen on prooving his point, like he has some agenda, or something. I mean, pasting the same google link search three times to TRY to show proof of the mass media MISTAKE looks a bit crazy to me.

The event wasn't for announcing new titles, that's all. And this event was solely for PS4.

The Vita isn't more dead than it was yesterday.

This people probably want it dead...

They really need to make Remote Play a core OS function with the PS4 so all titles are supported off the bat. Yes, the controller scheme is different but it could be virtually mapped.

You guys are also missing the point of streaming PS2 and PS3 games to the Vita.

The 18th Feb price-cut announcement wasn't 'Vita Heaven'.

They made it pretty clear that they have plans for the device for later in the year (they said something about living room plans, which I find odd). What that means and whether it will amount to anything remains to be seen. They're obviously going to do some work on remote play too. I'm not surprised that there was little else about the Vita at the PS4 announcement.

I think it's clear that the device still factors into their plans to a degree and will not be discontinued any time soon.

So basically they're saying we got nothing nothing until the PS4 is released so wait till then. Meanwhile sales are shit and we dropped the price in Japan but couldn't do the same here in North America and things will get better somehow soon, we promise.

Yes it's just 30 mil kids playing on the 3ds. You honestly believe that?

This post is jokes.

Mostly? Yes.

Congrats you're earning the title of most delusional poster of the day, and we're having a fanboy war atm!

Well to be fair dropping the price everywhere but in Japan could have dire repercussions considering how volative currencies are.
I could guess that's why they're not dropping it.

I understand that this was a PS4 event, and I'm glad we got a remote play announcement. Problem is, I am not getting a PS4 anytime soon after launch. I really hope the Vita isn't seen as just a remote play peripheral for the PS4 in the future.

I hope developers remember that it exists as a handheld gaming system that needs games to be developed specifically for it as well.

Things I learned from this thread...

With price drop, remote play feature alone would make people buy VITA to use as a PS4 controller
Resistance on VITA is a great game
P4G counts as an exclusive for VITA
3DS are for kids and doesn't have a good game library

Considering that I'll probably buy the Shield just for PC streaming, the prospect of PS4 streaming makes me quite happy as a Vita owner.

In the same boat (including Shield). I'm way more likely to play PS4 games on the Vita (where L2/R2 are not essential-this is a BIG drawback for the Vita) than in the living room on the TV.

I suspect that Sony will do the following with the Vita:

Price cut in NA (most likely E3)
New Vita model (with LTE/4G)
New games announcements (keep in mind this is a hit and miss thing as history has shown us)

and....

Re-brand the Vita as a full fledged PS4 controller with a PS4/Stripped Vita made SOLELY for Remote Play on the PS4 packaged as a bundle and as a separate accessory at a reduced price.

This Kotaku article made me think of this, because of this comment by Hiroshi Kawano, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan.

"Our customers can then choose which model they want depending on their own lifestyles or play styles." Kawano said, adding, "For those planning on purchasing one, the 3G/Wi-Fi model will probably be a better package deal."

I'm reading this as you can look at the Vita in the world of the PS4 in two ways - either have it as a full fledged on the go gaming system that will be competitively priced with the 3DS, or use a stripped down version of it as a pure PS4 controller. Given how poor the sales have been with the Vita and what they have shown with Remote Play on the PS3 (the GoW games play very well and fluid) I can't see Sony abandoning the product but I can see them re-brand it.

Others here have already said the same thing - it only makes sense that Sony is probably considering this as well.

For me the Remote Play features for the PS4 is a HUGE as it makes the console more dynamic in what it can do - the RP is a total value add.

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned the off TV play of the WiiU was important to them - I think Sony see this as well but are more then willing to take it a step further.

Also - I'm not saying that you are going to see the Vita as an on the go gaming system killed off - I just think that Sony will have 2 models - one dedicated for the PS4 at a lower price point and a fully fledged Vita (like it is now).

EDIT 2: Looks like no price cut according to this.

anyone who owns a vita (i see a few in here) should of known WAAAAAY in advance they wouldn't say shit about it. FFS it got backdoored to the fucking wonderbook at e3 what did you think would happen at a ps4 conference?
Dont worry they'll give the vita blowout at e3 lol.

I honestly dont care about these events as long as they keep giving me decent software i dont need the hype (ive been more then pleased wit my Vita)

THIS. The Vita is the best handheld I have ever owned.

The fact that I can play both NG games (as of next Tuesday) on the go is more then enough reason to own the system.

Ok, showing tech demos at a console announcement is not OK anymore? I must be too oldschool. Square Enix showing the Agni's demo again - yeah OK, but the message was clear that Sony wanted to show that the 3rd party support IS there, and SE wanted to show that Agni's is running on the PS4 without a hassle.

I just think that showing Vita games that was clearly dedicated to the PS4 would not have been a great fit.

Its ok to show demo, but not that much. Vita had a major tech demo showcase too (eg Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, MGS4 tech demo, Yakuza tech demo, Unreal Engine 3 tech demo, Vicious engine tech demo, bioshock logo announcement etc) and we see nothing out of all of them. Showing actual titles is the only way to send the message, to me at least. Action speaks louder than words.

What exactly would you strip from it that would suddenly make it less expensive?

man, aren't you a reject of the PSX era. Show me your time machine

It seems like the Vita is getting announcements every week that excite me, so I'm not too worried about it not getting any new software announced for it at a PS4 Press Event. It's clearly still a part of Sony's overall strategy.

I'm happy enough with my Vita and using it with the PS4 is a feature I was really hoping for.

Hopefully E3 will have a fair amount of Vita games announced. :)

Between now and E3 we're going to get a bunch of announcements as well likely. More Indie devs please Sony! Getting FTL on this machine would pretty much seal the deal for it being the best handheld ever.
