Ah, thanks you kind sir!
Here you go;
WHOOOOSSSHHHH!!! Kind of an "either you know it or you don't" type reference, sorry.

But I agree with him. This conference was an appetizer. Showing too much would leave the consumer full and groggy. Gotta save some for the main course.
Wow,some people..
Sony announcedca new console, announced some new features, new games, new system and still haveva truck load to unveil at e3. This is a win for sony.
MS will make their announcement and sony can come back and show off the design for headlines, more features, and titles from their biggest studios like ND, PD, SM, etc. Sony just built 8 months of hype and headlines.
Just shape of the box? How about how many controllers it will support? What type of output and input ports and how many does it have? What type of media or drive does it use? Is the power source inside or outside the console? Colors of the console? Can we charge controllers from the console? Does it run quietly? How big is it?
You know, the questions everyone is waking up wondering this morning?
But all that won't be able to hide the fact that what MS shows is still a console, a way of playing games on compact discs that was cool when cellphones were not smart.spock said:I have a feeling MS is planning for this market shift and is going to come out swinging in regards to mass market value position. (lower price, more clear mass market appeal, etc.)
I don't understand why people are complaining about a problem that's guaranteed to go away in mere months. They'll show the console, and none of what you're saying will matter anymore. Come June, consumers will "have something physical to associate the PS4". It's the very definition of non-issue. Seriously, who cares. Gamers stress themselves out too much, it's baffling. I guess I just can't relate.
This happens time and time again. People bitch and bitch and bitch and then suddenly the "thing" isn't a problem anymore and it doesn't matter. Come June, this won't matter. I don't see why it's even worth talking about. They aren't going to lose any sales over this. They wouldn't have gained any by showing it. There are so many other things to talk about.
Its a good job you don't do marketing..... The thing is 10 months away, why would they show you everything they have now?
Going by that argument i never would need to upgrade from windows xp or get a new pc because everything works fine as it is.... Unreal
Then why show anything at all? They didn't lay out any concrete facts outside of the basic system specs and some potential Gaikai features that could, or could not be realized by the time the console rolls out the door. Why blow half your load without hammering out the important details? People love to hear about dat 8 gigs of RAM, but normal consumers could give two shits about that. Price, console visibility, social networking. Those are your 3 main priorities for a console in the next generation.
If you don't think Microsoft now controls E3 because they have ALL their cards to show, you're crazy. Sony should've dropped one giant megaton instead of spreading out the damage. It's freakin' February. How long was the hype supposed to carry beyond a month or two?
All this comes from someone who loved the things Sony showed. Just not enough of it to make me say "Wow, I can't wait to buy a PS4".
What they failed to do was show why you need a ps4 in this day and age.
Showed some better graphics, a new controller (with nothing showing the effectiveness of that touch screen), a gimmicky share button that seems like it will result in a flood of meaningless YouTube vids, etc. But no real reason why I need this in my home now. It sold mainly to the core that was interested and probably going to buy anything they put out, and no one else
If you read the GAF response the biggest reaction came from 8 gb of ram. That speaks volumes. Compare to an apple reveal where specs are rarely ever shown
they are ignorant idiots to expect a price for a device 8 months from release.
Then why show anything at all?
You can't blame them for coming back feeling empty handed. If you hold a much hyped presser and hold back such info don't expect the press "to understand", they're the press and want something juicy.
Yes, that's the exact same thing as buying another $500 or $600 console.
No one is saying the console is dying. It's just that the mainstream media and gamers aren't impressed by high numbers and fancy computer tech. We should know this by now. They want pictures, blockbusters and what they perceive as innovation.
IMO, the conference was great, and I'm really looking forward to hearing more about the PS4. But I can understand why the mainstream media isn't impressed.
Kind of in line with every system reveal ever. Nature of the beastIt was sad how little was actually shown last night. The only two games shown that actually felt like they were being played were Watchdogs and Killzone. The rest were movies or concepts. Any hope for a big launch lineup sorta died last night. Those hopes were unrealistic anyway.

Mainstream media should have the common sense to know there is something called E3 where people will see the console the price naughty dog polyphony digital battlefield 4 and then they will go wow and say oh our bad about what we said in february
when has "console visibility" ever been in the top 3 things about a console?
In the age of electronics being a social phenomenon, where the "cool" kids carry iPhones, where people wait in line for days to hawk a new Apple product simply because it's status symbol and visibility to consumers, I'd say that's extremely important today.
Sony isn't just making a gaming console, they're trying to be an icon in the industry and beyond. Hardware is more than just a package that plays games. It's a cultural image that people associate themselves with. Why do you think Apple is so successful? They've developed their image to be that way among consumers.

The press aren't allowed to respond negatively to very little info revealed at a much hyped event apparently.
Has that "ever" happened with a console reveal? My familiarity with stuff before PS2 is not great - but every reveal since (PS2 included) I remember having scarce on so called concrete facts (I don't think any of them included price, for instance).Tyrone_Biggums said:They didn't lay out any concrete facts outside of the basic system specs and some potential Gaikai features
Sony is marketing to core gamers right now. Those are the people who will drop five bills on a new console win the first year of its lifespan. The NY Times guy said "Much of the excitement in video games has shifted to the Web and mobile devices, which are cheap, easy and fast." Which is fine, but it shows he isn't Sony's current target audience. Sony will try to sell him a machine in two or three years for $200 or $250.
That's fine an dandy. In 4 months, they may eat crow. But it's not June yet.
Sony has been hyping this event like crazy, and they're understandably disappointed.
You are living in the past you can't hype up anything electronic for 8 months. In a world with a 24 hour news cycle it does not work. If you are going to hype up an event to the levels of an apple presser you better damn well have more details and be closer to launch. The press has been spoiled by total reviles by samsung, apple ect. The media expected a total revile and they did not get it and are pissed. Blame sony they should of never done this presser. Should of been a lower key web event with no expectations or better yet just a game play trailer followed by a date in may for the presser.
I want to scratch my face off when reading these but the reality is, this is what most mainstream potential buyers will be exposed to (despite my best efforts ;-)
Sony (as well as its competitors) will have to fight this mindshare iOS/android have now. Those phone and tablet games are good enough, and cheap to boot. The 360/PS3/Wii were born and developed during an age when consoles were still the go to platforms for gaming of any kind.
Outside of GAF level core gamers, selling to the folks who already have one of the three platforms and/or games on mobile, is going to be tough. Very tough.
I think its important to acknowledge that at the very least. The climate is certainly changed.
Except they didn't. It was a completely underwhelming event that promised much but delivered essentially nothing. With the best will in the World you can't but describe a console reveal without a console reveal as anything other than a failure. The mainstream press have literally nothing to report on.
No console, no price, no BC, no megaton game announcements, no Versus/TLG, no women...8GB GDDR RAM doesn't mean much outside GAF etc, even less without a price.
That's fine and all, but I think the build up to the conference should have reflected that instead of delivering a perceived flop for the media to work with. While Sony is waiting to sell 'him' a machine in two to three years, Microsoft and Apple will most likely be selling 'him' their machines in the meantime. It's a delicate market these days.
Should have announced sony exclusives on IOS.
Thats completely unrealistic and no one thought they would do that
There is a ps4 headline on every website i have visited today except for espn. And that is without showing biggest features. Id say that is a marketing win, which is what last night was all about, marketing. If you thought they would announce a price, or an e3 style megaton then thats on you. Thats completely unrealistic and no one thought they would do that

i dont carry my game console with me, or hold it to my ear, or directly interact with its physical shape.
The Wii didn't do any of those things and it sold around 100 million consoles to date. It's visibility and mass market appeal are what made it successful. The image of owning the Wii is what made it, not its capabilities. It smoked 2 other HD consoles with exponentially more capability all because of social perception.
Kaz Hirai could have come on stage, shat on the floor, announced the PS4 and walked out and it would have made headlines the next day. It doesn't mean much in the long run.
It's February and the night is young. They focused on games and specs and the rest will follow. We know there is a console and I am guessing they are finalizing the look for a reveal later. They still have E3 to go, folks. How could anyone not be impressed by the specs, features and two hours of games that they have in the pipeline? They more than delivered for such an early reveal.

Anyway, i'm buying a PS4 day one ! It's a gamers machine ! will probably be my main console unless Microsoft blow me away, but i doubt it.
