Where are these rumors coming from that it was being developed with 4GB or RAM in mind and not 8? Did Sony just only recently upgrade to 8GB?

That was a stupid stance I never agreed with. Yeah, we totally weren't getting any resolution improvement from seven-year old consoles. Makes complete sense.

People were so "sure" about games staying at 720p, just like they were "sure" the console wasn't getting more than 3 GB. So much crow being eaten today it's delicious, and of course not a single "whoops, I was wrong. Mea culpa.".
right because I didn't admit to being wrong on the last page. Quit yet whining. And for the record most of us were touting 1080 @ 30/720 @60.

30 fps for shooters? I hope that's not the normal going forward for Sony's shooters.

For Killzone it's fine though. It's not a particularly fast paced shooter, in-fact, it sort of strives to be more weighty and tactile. Admittedly it didn't feel very weighty this time around, but it's hard to tell from a video.

Fuck the ISA Scum!

I want Double Platinums on this Bitch Sony, you hear me, Double Platinums!

My speculation on the story:

Early is involved. After what happened in KZ3. Vekta lost its main fleet. Majority of Helghast population got wiped out. Early is pissed at Vektan government because they attacked Helghan against Early's order which caused this whole mess. So as punishment to the Vektans and compensation to the Helghast, Early fleet came and moved the remaining Helghast to Vekta. The Vektan government has no choice but to accept it.

I didn't get that feeling at all. Don't forget the after-credit scene in KZ3 which was the only redeeming part of the silly ending(compared to KZ2) in my opinion. The
"Your Majesty" at the end. Visari does have a daughter...
.

I am more curious about the time this is in. The advancements, clothing and atmosphere look way ahead compared to the previous games.

So did Vekta agree to accept refugees from Helgan? Or is this a new planet?

The desc. of the video had "attack on a Vekta city" or something in it.

my 2 jobs are ready, I like how Sony stepped up with their launch games, they're going with bangers from the start, Resistance times are over, no need to convince myself whether to get it on launch or wait for games that deliver

happy times ahead

As long as it's a rock solid 30FPS, I don't mind. I hope each encounter feels like a battle though, as in Killzone 2. Based on this video, it's just like COD - aim and kill, aim and kill, aim and kill. Bargh.

Thank god the ISA are the good guys and the campaign will probably end with the Helghast idiots being defeated as per usual. There hasn't been a single game where they've been worth routing for.

Look like Vekta with all the cherry trees.

I am pretty sure devs are already used to the ps3 since it is pretty much a PC. They don't need to figure out a new architecture like the cell.

the final specs weren't known from the beginning of development though. wouldn't that make a big difference with regards to optimization?

Ah, interesting. Thought it was focused on the initial invasion of Vekta.

Probably for the best.

Hope Visari is back, though.
Visari is dead and he's staying dead. Unlike in Killzone 3 however, a new Helghast has stepped up to fill the boots of Visari. Not much is known yet, but he is the narrator for the trailer (click). I'm assuming he is the same Helghast from the KZ3 cliff hanger.

Also in regards to them forgetting KZ3 happened, that's not entirely true because the scenario we have in this game - Vetkans and Helghasts living side-by-side divided by a great wall - would of never arisen if it weren't for nuking of Helghan. Hated that they did that at first, but now that I see where it's taking them I very much like it. I still think they could of written KZ3 differently so the nuking wasn't so "lol wtf?" anticlimactic, but the general destruction of Helghan was needed.

It's a shame too - because I love 60fps and it elevated RAGE for instance to a much higher level because of it. It FELT good to play. Feeling good to play is pretty rare for Killzone as it doesn't jive with a lot of people, myself included. I wish it was 60! :(

But the tradeoffs for 30 are too great.

I thought some Tennis game did this about 5 years ago or something, I can't remember.

Wipeout did, too. Lots of games, in fact, though most of them downloadable. The thing is, whilst Wipeout was a downloadable title, nothing about the visuals was parred-down or otherwise suggesting it was made on a small budget. If there were more content, I don't think anyone would have baulked at the idea of it being a full retail product.

Nah it is not like they are scaling down. If anything the games will look way better and they will be able to add much more if they developed for 4gb ram and ended up getting 8gb instead.

no it's completely expected. it's cute that people were thinking games would run at higher framerates.

When given the opportunity, developers will always take better textures and other graphical flourishes over higher framerates...

I'm just happy it's native 1080p.

There is absolutely no way something this highly evolved, and confirmed as live gameplay, would not make it in to the final product. It would be a massive waste of the devs time to build this and not use it. You might see tweaks, but anything GG has ever shown has made it into their final games (with one highly notable exception), particularly given this is a confirmed launch title, so they have less than a year to finish it.

Unless GG completely CoDified Killzone I really don't think this demo will be in the final product. It's troubling if this is the way GG is moving towards level design. Six minute roller coasters with an obvious start, middle, and end is atrocious game design.

Everything about this demo for some reason reminded me of a music video (without music obviously). There was literally zero substance in the middle and it rushed from one end of a tranquil, serene Vetka city to a dark, menacing Helghan slum in the matter of seven minutes without any intense battles or struggles in between.

And honestly, GG could have put together this demo in the matter of a few months tops with a very small dedicated team of like 5 people. Can I prove it? No, just speculating this to be true considering this demo hardly has any substance at all besides some beautiful scenery in the beginning and as the Shadow Fall soldier hangs on to the rope as the flying vehicle takes you on a ride through the city.

It doesn't fit the Killzone style from the two previous games which are more methodical (Killzone3 admittedly less so). Perhaps the CoDified direction Killzone3 took was an indication of the direction GG wants to go with Killzone4, but I'm going to speculate outside of the box (but not be obnoxiously vocal) until further footage and information is released to us.

Confirms KZ was definitely developed on less capable hardware:

The official specs are in for the PlayStation 4 and what we have is, by and large, confirmation of existing DigitalFoundry stories - with one outstanding, exciting exception. At the PlayStation Meeting yesterday, Sony revealed that its new console ships with 8GB of GDDR5 RAM, not the 4GB we previously reported. It was a pleasant surprise not just for us, but also for many game developers out there working on PS4 titles now and completely unaware of the upgrade - a final flourish to the design seemingly added in at the last moment to make PlayStation 4 the most technologically advanced games console of the next gaming era.

I definitely dig the Cold War/terrorist vibe of this one. Hopefully the story is more interesting than the previous games and I don't want to throttle the protagonists.

Unfortunately, I think this might be the case. We were already seeing that trend moving from KZ2 to 3. I agree, the action in this looks much more COD style with quick kill enemies as opposed to the lovely bullet dances in KZ2. I suppose we'll have to see... but I'd still maintain that less than a year away from launch, there's just no way this won't be in the game, especially given this is almost certainly what's going to be on Fallon tonight.

They mention "some developers", so first parties might already be aware of the upgrade (and it may not have been as recent as we think).

Still, I think this may have been developed on less capable hardware for another reason. Do current devkits have the same unified memory setup that will grace the final hardware? Or are they still using a CPU + GPU configuration with separate pools as mentioned in rumors? Because if the current devkits still use the same architecture we've seen mentioned in the rumors, I believe it wouldn't be as powerful as the hardware we'll be able to buy by the end of the year.

Is there a higher quality version of the demo that's not on Youtube?

Holy shit at 1080p. Hopefully this is not just marketing lingo and actual 1920x1080 resolution. I had expected maybe above 720p but not quite 1080p, so this is really exciting. For just a launch title targeting that, at that visual level, and on less powerful hardware to boot, this is very impressive stuff.

Did anyone notice that "Shadow Fall" and "Berlin Wall" have the same number of letters?

I'm not even sure

This is precisely what has annoyed me about the Killzone series.

Killzone 2 had a superb FPS campaign with brilliant pacing. Every encounter with the Helghast felt like an actual battle.

This on the other hand seems to be COD set in space. Aim down sight > Shoot > Kill, rinse and repeat against waves of brainless enemies.

I simply hope this demo is simply some kind of 'tech demo' as opposed to a more true gameplay reveal.

So it really does seem like they are getting away from the sev storyline....even after how KZ3 ended?

huh......

Also lvl design wise urban envirnoments along with tight controlled areas is where they are the strongest like in killzone 2. I think they can do better then the whole" cod one man army type" of game
