Metal Gear Rising spoiler thread: God Bless America!

Armstrong was just such a shit boss. Im not sure what platinum was going for with him but he's a complete failure of a character on every level. It was literally painful watching the screen when he was on it. Visually he's just a bloated uninteresting mess while everything else is pretty well done. In a game filled with bad dialogue his was without a doubt the worst..even worse than george's. And wtf was up with those mysterious 'fire' powers he suddenly gets at the end? I mean i always enjoyed some of the over the top liberties taken in the MGS universe but that whole scenario was dbz levels of comical. Such a disappointing way to top off a pretty good game.

Best random character in the game is Jamaican cyborg kid. I lost my shit at the "cowabanga go ninja go" scene.

The fact that he had two different sets of English subtitles was funny and weird at the same time, like I can't tell if it's a joke or not because when he's speaking I can understand his intentions and what he means entirely.

It seems like I'm going to have to shell out some case for the sam DLC to understand wtf his deal was

Anyways how many codec calls are in this game? I listened to a shitload of them and didn't get the trophy.

Then you pull out his nanomachine heart.

"WE'RE DONE HERE!"

lol i loved that line

I'd be willing to interchange all of my organs except my brain and genitals to have the cyborg body Raiden has. Hell, who needs genitals or sex when you can essentially throw a cruise ship or slice through that same cruise ship.

Make me a cyborg America please?

The lack of a handshake from blade wolf reminds me of this from MGS3

Need better battery tech first.

I loved the Armstrong fight because its like he became a Hokuto no Ken character through the power of money and science.

Truthfully though he didnt really fit in with the rest of the characters at all. As mentioned before dude more belonged in Asuras Wrath than this game.

While his speech and personality was amusing, the way they designed his character wasnt.

In terms of bosses my favorites were Mistral, Monsoon, and Sam in no particular order. Sundowner was just boring and lame to me, and Armstrong was actually a good fight, but I had a terrible experience fighting him due to not understanding how to deal with the boss. (what to do when he is healing, having trouble cutting the debris)

Metal Gear Excellus (is that it's name?) was disappointing for me, I was expecting much more. Aside from that though the bosses were great.

In terms of story I was actually surprised how violent the game was compared to other Metal Gear's, not just in terms of the very excessive swearing in the game, but also some moments actually creeped me out. (such as the child brains with eyes all looking and staring at Raiden when he first sees them)

Yeah sundowner was such a waste of what could have been a pretty epic fight. Since even on hard he really didnt do all that much.

They just should have made the fight revolving around his insane scissor blades instead of those shields. It was an amusing concept, but just made him way too easy to kill.

The only violence that got to me was when Armstrong was wailing on Raiden in the cutscene right before the final boss fight. I felt terrible for Raiden and was actually scared when I thought about being in his situation. Dude also had his pain inhibitors off.

I was looking at the metal gear wiki and saw:

If the player beats the game in under three hours and without killing anyone, Armstrong will say an alternate dialogue.

The fuck is this. Is that made up?

Thanks for these links. I love the boss themes. So fucking good. Whenever the lyrics kicked in they pumped me up more than pretty much any game music I've ever heard.

Also, count me in the group that considers Armstrong to be weirdly entertaining.

I like the variety he gives to the game with his fighting style. Every other character used high-tech weapons while he just uses his nearly indestructible nanomachine body to pound Raiden to death.

Its debatable that if he fits in with the game itself, but I find him enjoyable.

I don't understand how he controls fire though.

I was half expecting Raiden to say "you're already dead" before pulling out his heart.

I would have to had write PlatinumGames a love letter.

It's a toss-up between Monsoon and Mistral for me for best boss fight. It's a shame that so many seemed to dislike the Ray intro boss. Sure it's almost a gimme fight but experiencing that sequence for the first time has become one of my all-time favorite moments in gaming.

I love the music in this game, has it's own feel and even though it has nothing in common with previous Metal Gear soundtracks, it still fits this game really well.

Also have to say that the part in chapter 4 when you go to the Japanese garden was freaking awesome.

Chapter 4 was the best chapter. Great encounter design and that was when the deeper mechanics clicked for me.

This.

I felt like it was an homage to the Tenchu games.

Also that Samurai cyborg sitting at the top of the staircase in seiza position waiting to fight you. So good.

Was there ever an explanation as to why his blood is red now? Please don't say nanomachines.

Yeah, the short of it being that cyborgs using the white blood had to go through routine dialysis, the new red blood doesn't need to be dialyzed.

Anyways how many codec calls are in this game? I listened to a shitload of them and didn't get the trophy.

Guide says there's 540 unique conversations and you need to listen to at least 400 of them for the trophy.

Something seems off about that though; I called everyone after every cutscene/checkpoint/new area and during every encounter but the trophy didn't ping until the fistfight phase of Armstrong's fight.

I'm still trying to cope with the Senator Armstrong boss battle in this game.

It just doesn't fit fit the general tone of the game. The cinematics with armstrong reach God Hand levels of humor, and even if that's make me happy, I think it just doen't fit the general tone of the game...

Well, considering how you can slice Mistral, Monsoon and Sundowner in a trillion pieces, and they don't piss you of as half as the senator, I was a little disappointed I couldn't cut him just as well. It would have been a glorious end to this awesome, difficult and bizarre battle.

I loved the Armstrong fight because its like he became a Hokuto no Ken character through the power of money and science.

I just thought I was playing Hokuto Musou at the final boss as well...

Sam was the best for me. No bullshit, only you and your sword, reminds me of a better solidus fight. Too bad that is too easy and short.

I was expecting to keep fighting him like Jeanne but seeing the game was rushed because of that kojima schedule it makes sense. At least we gonna get dat DLC

I still think Sam was probably the original final boss fight or there was supposed to be some second stage component because of "It Has to be This Way" and the achievement that unlocks after you No Damage Sam. It definitely feels something got cut.

I liked Amrstrong he basicly was a Arnold Schwarznegger Parodie a Musle packet Senator,
that needs Steroids/ Nanomachines to really be the strongest and the whole fight has a Terminator style to it and he has my favorite Battle Theme ~Beneath the blood stained saaaaaaaaaaaand ~

Exactly. Felt the same way about him. A more epic battle with Sam would have been far more appreciated.

They just should have offed armstrong once his "sweet ride" got chopped to pieces. Then have had Samuel come back for a final fight.

Something along the lines of this from 13 Assassisn.

Imagine fighting Samuel again in a setting like that. Would have been a 1000 times better than what we got with Armstrong.

Some kinda creepy super sam wolf hybrid would have been awesome as a last fight. Wolf deduces that raiden sucks and merges in some mgs way with sam and they become a dog samurai centaur. I was literally making that up as i was typing and its still better than armstrong. Oh well. Maybe next time

I appreciate that they did the whole "Fist Fight on Top of Metal Gear" thing, but Armstrong was just out of place :/

One thing I did appreciate after the Sam fight was realizing that the beatdown Sam gave you at the beginning of the game wasn't due to any cyborg components but rather him being a flatout better fighter than Raiden and that there is the implication that Raiden only won because of his new body.

I'd say the only thing that comes close to it is George's "go ninja go!" and just Armstrong in general.

The lack of a handshake from blade wolf reminds me of this from MGS3

I remember showing some of my friend's MGS3:S secret theater. Had them in stitches by the time we were done.

If there's one moment where I laughed out loud, it was Raiden and Wolf's reaction before the launch. Putting on the visor was so simple, yet hilarious in that situation.

Same here, I mean that's pretty much all they could do to prepare for the immediate take off.

That part in the Japanese garden really had me pining for a new Tenchu game. Maybe we'll get something like it next-gen?

All boss fights from now on must have thematically relevant lyrics when it gets the most intense.
This is something I really liked as well, how the music would change slightly depending on the phase of the fight. Music works best when it's inline with the action on screen, so having it get more intense near the end of the fight is one way of going about it.

Even in videogames tea sipping longhorns take it up the ass.

Gig'em!

Just beat monsoon. Wow. The game is a ton of fun. But it had a lot of flaws. Camera is awkward as hell. I wish clicking the left stick would center it, my right thumb is too busy mashing buttons to click the right stick.

Also I think Raiden is a really awful character with a bad voice actor. A lot f the voice acting is particularly weak (so far). And I don't care about any of the characters. I have been able to get into most of the lead cast of any previous MGS game, but not this one.

Sam fight reminded me of the final boss in No More Heroes 1.
Armstrong fight reminded me of the final boss in No More Heroes 2. (phase 2 of Jasper Batt Jr.), especially with how insanely difficult he is and the similarities between the two (both become muscular, both have unblockables, both have grabs that are hard to avoid, both you need to either dodge or parry in order to do damage, etc.)

Here's a video to help show what I'm comparing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5D65-LuSCUA

Am I crazy? Both also have over the top cutscenes and dialogue. It's amazing.
