Truthfully guys - im more interested in seeing what else can be added besides visuals that can help KZSF distinguish itself from current gen shooters. So far it looks lime gameplay is par for the course. What about NPC AI? Games like Watch Dogs are impressive because of the level of detail given to the world as a living thing - not just geometry and textures.

What will KZ offer besides standard shooter faire? I'm more interested in gameplay, at this point. So far it looks tame, in that regard. I want "next gen" levels of immersion, not just visuals.

the textures on tehhh uniform is insane
I like how a lot of textures in the game seem to be detailed but subtle. It makes it stand out from the typically praised visuals where everything is very high contrast and grungy in comparison (Crysis 2/3, Metro 2033) But the detail is still very much there when you look for it. Gives the game a sense of elegance and effortless-ness IMO.

Just look at the intricate detail on their vests, or the woman's sleeve:

Convenient? What is this? I must be a fanboy right? Just being honest. Characters have more animation or something in Halo making the 30fps ok in my book. I love the idea of The Battlefield series but on consoles the character animations are the furthest thing from smooth so Im stuck with COD. Just wish 60fps would become the go to frame rate for shooters next gen. Off to a bad start.
I must say I can't understand what you mean. Character animation in all Halo games pre-Halo 4 has been simplistic and pretty janky compared to BF3, which is among the top of anything in that regard (and even in Halo 4 it wasn't that great, but nowhere as bad as before). The bigger deciding factor with framerate is speed of gameplay, and KZ has similarities with Halo there in that it's slower moving, where CoD is more twitch based, so the higher framerate makes bigger difference.

I was hoping to get some answers as to why some 30fps shooters can "feel" so much different than others but if you want my list of console shooters in order I'lll pm them to you.

It's cool dude, save yourself the time. I've got a pretty ridged opinion on it already. I've played enough 30fps fps/tps to know there's nothing inherently wrong with 30fps games, especially if they have some motion blur thrown in for added effect. The issue arises when games can't even hold a rock steady 30fps, and dip below that. That's when things start getting sketchy and noticeably problematic.

Again I agree. Though in all honestly I wouldn't mind some more of the same gameplay wise (with a few new titbits), provided they instead give me bags of exploration, story and character development. I want to see and speak to civilians, explore the world, get some of the back story. Experience some emotional weight to my actions and characters, etc.

i want to talk about a helghan story. change the tides. tell the story of the helghan for once. so many possibilities.

<3 you! I agree. So many devs feel 15fps is A-OK for games - BF3 is atrocious on PS3 when playing MP. I don't know what Dice was smoking but they need to give me the number for their supplier.

Edit: missed your second paragraph. I agree. I am patiently waiting more info on the game - we will see how it pans out.

I think people shouldn't draw too many conclusions about the PS4's capabilities or even the game itself from this demo. It's footage from an unfinished launch game, it's like trying to draw conclusions about the PS3 from an alpha version of Resistance 1.

Personally I thought that this particular scene was a good way to showcase the PS4, it's an impressive vista with considerable level of detail considering the draw distance on display.

I won't go on more in a KZ thread. Trust me I want to enjoy something like BF3, it's where most of my friends are. Maybe my eyes are janky and not the games. ;)

I want to talk about Killzone. Who wants to talk about Killzone?
I wish we could split this thread into one for those who want to talk about frame rate and resolution and one for those who actually want to talk about Killzone. Seriously, how is Watch Dogs and Crysis two of the major talking points here?

Well Killzone 2 and 3 had amazing AI, so hopefully they improve upon that.

For me, just about. Not sure what Halo is doing right but it's the only mp fps at 30fps that I can play. Honest question, how can two games at 30fps feel so different? I felt KZ3 was a choppy mess online. I want 60fps so bad. =(

I don't agree at all.

It was absolutely perfect for me, no lag at all and I was playing with a slow-arse 4MB connection then.

I would go as far to say it was as smooth as any MP FPS I have played online, and that includes titles on the PC.

And I was on the K3 servers for a good 4 months without any problems.

This is part of the reason I am really looking forward to K:SF mp for day one.

Why aren't the trailer and gameplay demo up on PSN in 1080p already?

Matter of fact, why isn't there ANYTHING from Sony's big event on PS3 yet?

It should have been live streamed on PS3 and videos put up day of..

Don't expect 60 fps to be a standard until 48 or 60 fps is a standard in film. We still accept movies at 24 fps, and until that changes, expect the same for games.

... Somebody just wants to brag about how awesome their graphics card is and that they only live off of noodles and water juuust so they can be "on top"? It's basically just a console war, but now - PS4 is up throwing punches in the "master race".

I'm really excited about where they're taking the story in Shadow Fall. I've got a feeling this is going to be the best story in a Killzone game yet.

Dat clipping.

Someone from GG is probably reading this thread so maybe what you guys want in the game? Story/gameplay/MP...I dunno. GG already proved to deliver when it comes to grfx...There's nothing to worry about.
I guess the only gameplay addition that can be discussed is the interaction with the environment in terms of climbing over walls, so maybe they'll have some Mirror's Edge-lite aspect added to gameplay here. However, other than that it exists now, as they've showed it once or twice in action, I'm not sure there's much to discuss.

Yeah there is one thing I noticed in all of the trailers. PS4 games will have great AA.
At 1080p, post-proc AA alone is already mostly enough, especially when playing on TV where you don't sit with your face close to the screen to see every pixel.

No it's a design decision. I don't mean to be rude but I'm getting tired of people constantly spouting they want 60 fps and still have no clue what that actually entails. Video games 50 years from now on super computers will still be 30 fps because they will always be able to push more visually at 30 frames then at 60.

Which would make it the lcd. Not sure why anyone would intentionally put in a handicap. If the hardware is capable of 60FPS with the same visuals then by all means that should be it.

I'd love it if players got the option to customize visuals options like they can on PC, being more PC like in structure.

I have a feeling that Visari's daughter will play a big role in the Helghast side. What about the last ISA unit on Helghan with Rico, Sev, etc. Did the planet effect them like it did to the Helghast?

Talking more about the game itself, I think the Berlin wall approach they have going there is interesting.
Killzone 3's story was very criticized (and rightfully so) and I think that will be one of their biggest concerns for this game. I remember a lot of people saying that they wanted to see more about how people lived in this universe, get to know the helghast outside of the battlefield, I think this game will deliver these things.

i want to talk about a helghan story. change the tides. tell the story of the helghan for once. so many possibilities.

The problem is that the Helghast have almost always been evil even dating back to the Helghan corporation, and few would have the skill to make something interesting out of them when explored in detail. Just look at how boring those elements in 3 were. There's no making the Helghast into heroes and the ISA/VSA i9nto the villains, the narrative just doesn't support that outside of extreme wishful thinking. Best case scenario would be a civil war, at the very least you need characters like Hakah.

Although the premise for ShadowFall hints that tensions between the two sides are incredibly high, but that the Helghast who attacked in the reveal are in fact terrorists of a sort, not just official Helghast policy.

I... I don't think that smooking piece of Helghast is alive :(

And no, Sev and Riko got away... ISA SCUM!!

The wall climbing was without any promted QTE like in KZ2/3. Could it be vertical traverse platform combat like Uncharted?
I highly doubt that. When it would go all vertical it would have to play like Mirror's Edge.

btw. I'm a little bugged by just how undramatic the stabbing of that one Helghan is. It really wouldn't be that hard to make the scene a little more dramatic, like the player character trying to hide the knife or having to reach for a gun etc.

It would also be great if you were in control of when the C4 charge explodes. It would take minimal effort to implement but would make the player feel so much more in control.

Having not seen the melee before in KZ I really liked the jumping knife kill - only issue was it was so fast I could never catch him throwing the knife afterwards, only saw his hands unless I slowed it down. But he also pushes the guy's face to the ground afterwards and he drops...quite cool I thought. You'd prefer there to be a longer animation with more struggle for the melee?

The second melee soon after didn't look great, I think it was supposed to be him snapping his neck but it looked like he was giving him a stretch. Also had some clipping...but I liked the stye.

Now that you mention it, adding Mirror's Edge-like 1st person traversal to the game would go a huge way in making it stand out from other shooters. Hell, the city is right there asking for it. I like the idea. Signed, a Mirrors Edge and KZ2 fan...

You wouldn't get the same visuals, and 30 fps isn't a handicap. It's, like I said, a design decision.

I don't want context-sensitive melee animations in the MP. They are awful. Somehow developers think better animations just equals more animations. It's so unnecessary and annoying.

Yeah, I think it should simply be more dramatic then just "click R3"

The contextual melee kills during the gameplay are usually ok. I mean it's sometimes a little weird that he basically drops the gun and uses his hands instead but I guess that is also kind of the point of the melee kills.

Just to add to that, you don't get objects suddenly appearing out of nowhere either. If you look for it, you will notice one or two textures drawing in, but it is very subtle and nowhere near what you would expect on something like a PS3.

I wonder who that voice is during the trailer.

I guess it's the Helghast's new leader because of the speech.

"30 years ago, our homeworld was swept away in a tide of so called justice. Millions of men, women and children lost their lives. But some of us, refused to lay down and die. Some of us, refused to accept your shallow plea for forgiveness. We are the generation forged in the fires. And this, is our day!"
