I only just noticed that the city cuts off at several points - so there are several layers to it? Unless it's a buggy skybox or something.

I don't think these are cutoffs. If you rewatch the rope scene again, that ship goes through some flying 'cars' where it was a blue line like the ones you pointed out.
Edit: Wait, I see what you are saying. Not all the lines are like that.

I was really unimpressed with Killzone demo, I felt the graphics could've been done on the triple. Some of the background effects probably not, but the core of it probabaly could. I've watch the demo like 5x, even in 1080p (YouTube btw) and STILL not impressed.

Deep Down looked WAAAAY better, but I dont remember if Deep Down was confirmed running on PS4 devkit.

I hope to see stronger visual design evolution in the mech style and military uniforms.

This story takes place 30 years after the last Killzone. No real world army looks or fights the way it did 30 years ago. The overall designs of the armies in Killzone should reflect 30 years of design evolution.

One nod to this: main character seems to be using a railgun to fight. That's an impressive tech advancement. I want to see more stuff like this!
He's also slowing down time with the use of his d-pad.

That's obviously your oppinion, but I really think you're overestimating the capabilies of the ps3. There's a lot in the killzone demo that's simply isn't possible on the ps3.

The deep down demo looked great, but was clearly not gameplay. You also gotta keep in mind that it took place in tiny areas compared to the killzone demo.

Yeaaaah... let's specifically take a look at character models, shall we?

Killzone 3:

Killzone SF:

The geometry detail in Shadow Fall is insane. From the character models to the rubble to the shrubbery. The shaders are excellent, the shadows are a lot better, the particles, the textures... Everything is a huge step up. Could there potentially be a scaled back PS3 version? Of course. But you could say that about any game, really. There's nothing on PS3 as detailed as in that demo though.

I really wouldn't mind if GG has deemed the M82 unchanged aesthetically in 30 odd years. Such a sexy rifle. Then again, you could probably transpose any gun into KZ2/3/SF's weapon model and have it look amazing. Easily the best weapon modeling in the biz, in my opinion; and some of the best design, too. Their use of DOF, blur and material shading/reflection is beautifully unique.

EDIT: It wouldn't make much sense, though, so maybe some sort of throwback a la
Snake reuniting with his Socom in MGS4
?

The M82 is in the demo. The VSA NPCs have them. It looks a bit different up front. Looks like it has a foregrip on it. Couldn't tell if the grenade launcher was back. I can't wait to see that reload animation again.

We saw what Guerilla Games could do on the triple and as wonderful as it was, it wasn't Shadow Fall.

Love the Berlin wall, cold war tension used as a backdrop here.

I wonder if you as the Shadow Marshal have a counterpart on the Helghan side that you're supposed to work with as part of the peace aggreement.

They should make that counterpart a chick.

She escorts you on missions when you visit the Helghan side.

Killzone rubble wars! More KZ3 vs KZ SF comparisons lol.

Tessellation makes a world of difference when it comes to detailing. I just watched the demo again and they're definitely using silhouette smoothing tessellation as well. The player's fingers were totally round when shown and the NPC helmets had a very realistic curve to them.

Yeah! Good catch.

Why not a device that causes molecular disentegration, dissolving matter into a billion particles a la the de-rez'ing effect in Tron. Or an imploding singularity, a la the red matter in Star Trek. Limitless possibilities!

I would like to see GG push their imaginations in regards to stuff like this. The railgun is a great start :)

I recall an interview about how GG wanted to keep things like bullets in Killzone instead of opting to go for some space age lasers and stuff because having bullets eject from your gun looked and felt much better.

I would imagine they still follow this train of thought with things like C4.

That's not to say they don't experiment. That massive green laser thing in KZ3 was fucking nuts.

I know many dislike KZ3 but I really took to it and I don't have much time or interest in FPS games. The art style, the weight in seeing enemies crumble from your shots, the sounds of gun fire and I really enjoyed the multiplayer too (same with KZ2).

Impressed with what was shown :-)

Killzone was actual gameplay. Dd was a cutscene. Show me gameplay, then we'll talk.

I think the visual fidelity of Deep Down is certainly possible on PS4. The thing I question is the unique animations constantly happening and camera work.

The animations are in large part to why it's so impressive much like the Killzone 2 reveal trailer.

I'm surprised over the lack of discussion for the new gun showcased in this demo. That gun is absolutely mad. Pay attention to the details when its shooting. You can see the almost laser like projectiles propelling from the magnetized coils in the center of the chamber.

Just insane amounts of detail packed into this game and it impresses me the more I watch the demo.

Heh, some days ago people were sceptical if we got 1080p. I think if this is what we can expect from launch title with locked 30 fps and still looking so good I guess 1080p indeed will be the new standard, even for 60 fps titles.

NeoGAF has been double backing on next gen hardcore.

First it was, we'll be lucky to get anything with more than 2Gb ram. Then it was 8gb is impossible. We heard that we'd be lucky to get anything more than 720p/30fps. Then it was next gen games won't even touch Crysis 3 or come close. Agni's philosophy, Watchdogs etc (previously running on a GTX 680) would never run on Nextbox or PS4 or look nearly as good etc etc. Each time the goal posts seem to be moving further and further lol. I guess that's a good thing though.

We should be able to get CoD games 1080p 60fps, shouldn't we? Those games aren't really nearly as graphically intensive as a Killzone type game, so it should be easily possible I would think.

Then again, they couldn't even get it running close to 720p on PS3. So who knows.

It's very irritating. It's almost as if people want next-gen to fail so they can justify their PC GPU's.

So true lol.

Yep...

No one is ever happy. :(

I do remember StevieP saying that WD would run on consoles with certain sacrifices at 720p30fps. Ahh.. the good days.

I think Wii U is kinda at fault here. Everyone expected it to be the weakest of the new consoles but it fell short of literally every expectation I saw people having in the old speculation threads. Then there was this age of pessimism after that where people were concerned Sony and MS would certainly take the ''Wii route''.

I don't think they understand the focus and important fact is, it is a leap over previous gen. A big one when it isn't sub HD. Nothing about PC in this case.

I'd prefer it if Killzone didn't stray far from the Paul verhoven esque look at the future. We don't need another Halo.

What I love about EVERY graphics thread is that there's still people who don't understand what bullshots are and get indignantly offended when someone points them out.

We probably will get 60fps CoD games on next gen consoles, yes. What you have to understand though, is that it's simply depends on what each individual developers chooses to prioritize. the CoD games were 60fps all of this gen I believe, so it's clearly a big priority for them, and it's clearly working based on sales.

It seems like most of the game will take place there.

Considering how great that city looks in motion, I'm totally okay with that.
