Kojima: Metal Gear Rising is selling well worldwide

Well deserved. Game is a fucking blast and Platinum deserves to have a real hit. One of my favorites this gen. Just pure fun.

GO NINJA GO NINJA GO :D

Kojima is the man and I look forward to a lot more Metal Gear goodness next gen, be that Solid or Rising.
Still prefer he make a new IP over MGS games.

Action game? Can you be more specific? That can describe every game from Zelda to Heavy Rain to Infinity Blade.

Really? I would never describe Zelda or Heavy Rain as an action game.

But as the other poster mentioned: Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, or Bayonetta would be the most appropriate comparisons.

They're going to have to really step up their game for the sequel for me to buy it. It was just profoundly uneven and fell flat on it's face outside of core combat and boss combat.

I am extremely happy this game is doing well. I was nervous for them at first, but man did they really do a damn good job with the limited time they had.

Rising needs more kojima and a little less platinum.

No its needs more batshit crazy like the last chapter and end boss section of the game. Kojima left Rising in other peoples hands so he could concentrate on other things no point dragging him back for sequel

ok thanks. I play Metal Gear mostly for the weird ass story. Am I gonna like it?

Story is generally awful, but in a good way.

Lots, and I mean LOTS of optional codec calls. They contain some really cool info and references to older games. Sometimes they drag on though.

All in all, you should buy it for the amazing gameplay more than anything.

Great.

Now let's hope you give them more than like a year and some change to churn out a sequel, Kojima.

Platinum is finally making money *sniff*

Eh. Konami's certainly going to make (more) money, at least...

No, you're going to rike it.

If I recall correctly, the majority of the story was done by KojiPro, so it still has that distinctly Metal Gear flavor to it, but with more absurdity. One scene in particular from the third mission is absolutely outrageous way that you're not sure if it was a Platinum or KojiPro call. It's got the codec conversations and there is plenty of philosophical dialogue throughout, so if that's the part of Metal Gear you love, it's all there waiting for you.

Good news! I just finished the game. What a rush. I can't even imagine what Platinum could do with a sequel given the post credits scene.

Someone should tell Kojima about the ZoE 3 - Platinum idea, maybe he didn't realize it.
It would be glorious on next-gen.

He said "non-spoiler", as epic as this trailer is, it has MAJOR SPOILERS in it.

Yeah, the Kojima trailer basically shows everything in the entire game. Not what you want if you haven't played it yet.

This game is already a classic. It deserves all the success it enjoys and more.

And this is PG doing a rush job to replace a broken product, yes? I'd love to see them do a Rising 2 from the ground up.

I might be annoying people by bring this in this up in every thread but I think its worth reminding people that this game was built from the ground up in Platinums engine in

Less than one year.

In some ways that makes Rising their greatest achievement.

Action game? Can you be more specific? That can describe every game from Zelda to Heavy Rain to Infinity Blade.

It seems closest to a mix between Ninja Gaiden and Bayonetta in terms of the gameplay system but it's a pretty unique action game (which is why I'm struggling to think of anything it's comparable to). You really should try the demo if you aven't been convinced by the huge praise surrounding it or, better yet, just go out and buy it right now and experience the amazingness yourself.

EDIT: Oh and one thing I'd say is that the story, I feel (others seem to think the exact opposite so take this as you will) is a parody of Metal Gear Solid games in many respects. If you're buying it, do it for the incredible combat system and huge amount of combat (keeping in mind that it is a short game). I was hugely hyped for the game before release and I was expecting to be disappointed but I can confidently say that it has surpassed every one of my expectations (particularly in the game's pacing). The only caveat is that it is a short game in a single playthrough but there is such a large amount of content in the form of collectibles, upgrades, new game plus and the ranking system that, I feel, it's negligible.

Anyway, I'm glad to see this selling so well. Hopefully it increases awareness of Platinum as a studio and provides them more leeway with publishers. I really do think Sega should release a cheap Vanquish-Bayonetta bundle in a few months to take advantage of the buzz praise surrounding Metal Gear Rising (emphasising that Platinum is the creator of it, if possible).
