Metal Gear Rising spoiler thread: God Bless America!

Is lack of development time the reason for having Wolf run off everytime there was potential for a tag team battle?

Ill say yes. Vanquish was going to add a similar dog companion but was scrapped. I think it was going to combine with Sam.

Speaking of things scrapped. I think MGR had a lot of potential but ideas were dropped because of time.

Motorcycle minigame, Playable Bladewolf, Robo Jet mini game, obviously ninja run walls, are all things that could've been added. The game felt rushed to me or at least a game with many opportunities.

So awesome... Good thing the game is apparently selling well. Rising 2 needs to happen.
I thought with armstrong, we were having a No More heroes 2 moment with the final boss being pretty lame. Luckily, i was wrong.

Damn right Rising 2 needs to happen, especially with that cliff hanger after credits scene.

"Nanomachines, Son!" LOL

Only Platinum could make me love Nanomachines again
To me it felt like a joke with the people who have gotten so annoyed at the fact that nanomachines are used to explain everything in Metal Gear, so here the final boss is nanomachines.

You know, it never really sunk in that MGS4 lacked an endgame Metal Gear.

The way I saw it at the time was that the new Metal Gear (err Gekkos) had finally been mass produced (the main fear throughout the series), patrolling levels as a standard enemy.

I remember when the first trailer leaked and they showed Gekkos, it was a "Holly shitsnacks" moment. Having one at the end would have been overkill for that game.

In a way, that Metal Gear at the end of Rising almost seemed redundant and shoe horned in. It's ironic that fighting Armstong posed more of a challenge.

The Metal Gear at the end of Rising is a fake out.

I don't get a cliffhanger impression from that at all. Just came across as Raiden going around fucking PMC groups up who are involved in dodgy activities. No reason it can't be used as a hook in to a sequel though.

I'm just curious as to how they can progress his character after Rising.

I can't remember the exact line, but he said something along the lines of "I have my own mission." To me it felt like there was more there than just going around kicking random ass.

"Are you a sighborg?" always makes me laugh. It's not spelt that way at all, that's just what he sounds like.

I actually really liked George.
I liked George. Accent and all. I'm glad he is in this game than some loli festish type of girl. Sorry Sunny.

Move to his back and blade mode.

Gotta Zandatsu his back on the spot targeted, it takes him out of it and allows you to pile on the hits while he's stunned.

Oh thanks, I had the right idea of hitting his back but I didn't think to try blade mode.

It's really hard for me to shake the feeling I should be conserving energy/battery/mana at all times, but the truth is I should be snapping into blade mode at every given opportunity since a successful zandatsu recharges me in full...

Is it just me, or has this been said already?: Sam in Revengeance bears more than a passing resemblance to Sam in Vanquish. Or am I just a big ol' dummy?

George's voice sounded way too old. It was the only voice I really hated.

Same here. Everytime he opened his mouth he sounded like a 30 year old white guy trying to imitate Short Round from Indiana Jones. Luckily the rest of the performances are spot on. I really hope the DLC has more lines from Sam.

She's also 10 and has breasts.

Where was the logic there?

Nanomachines, son.

yes, I know it's probably been said before, but it needs to be said over and over again.

By the way, the whole BRAINS thing had me thinking of Psychonauts the entire time, haha

The bit where Raiden picked up the Metal Gear Crab by one sword arm and threw it had me rolling on the floor. Total defiance of physics but who gives a shit

The thing about George is that despite being from Guyana, his accent is a mishmash of other accents which makes him sound like he's speaking gibberish(if he wasn't already sounding like that to people before lol)

I think the funniest thing is that they acknowledge that he's speaking unintelligible gibberish by giving him subtitles, but every character in the game seems to understand him perfectly as if he's speaking normally

So I don't get what the purpose is of having him speak that way.

It's like the opposite of how MGS3 handled language, where they acknowledge that everyone is speaking Russian in dialogue while they're really speaking a language the audience understands.

George for all intents and purposes is speaking perfect English in the context of the game, but for some reason he's speaking in a way that the audience needs subtitles to understand.(Like even if you're able to understand the words he says, you still need the subtitles to understand how the other characters interpret the meaning of them. Like the "hot fa days" comment towards Sunny at the end of the game.)

It's weird. Not a fan.

I think he was just stating that he would only fight for himself and his own ideals instead of being used to fight other people's wars like the rest of the PMC Cyborgs

Just beat the game again, the line was:
"I've got my own war to fight." and then he smiles.
To me that just feels like sequel bait.

We need a version of this without the text. Just plug that baby into threads where something amazing happens.

Not too sure why Raiden isn't associated with Maverick though. They clearly went full on philanthropist, but I guess they can't officially associate with a guy that is pretty much a "terrorist" (he fights PMCs/Corporations doing unethical things). I like that Raiden is now at the same place Snake/Otacon were post-MGS1/beginning-of-MGS2.

Can people stop calling George jamacian? He even states he is guyanese. He doesn't sound jamacian at all.

The accents may sound similar but it's like calling a Canadian American.

That said, even as a guyanese accent, that is pretty bad.

MGR:2

Set 15 years in the future.

Raiden is in his 50s and teaching his son (the playable character) the way of the blade.

John is 24 taking up his fathers mantle of defending the people
Sunny is 25 serves as a love interest for john and his tech support
George is a kev replacement.
Otacon is the old grizzled team leader

I've never liked the idea of Raiden's son being a replacement. Why does anyone want that? I'd rather the next game show what Raiden does next.

Hell nah.

Raiden should be the focus of the Rising series, everyone else should be put on the side. Plus Raiden is now a criminal on the run, he's probably going to keep distance between himself and family.

I'm down. Then again, I'm always down for something new rather than a "continuation".

Also, I listened to the OST yesterday on my way home. That was a terrible idea. "My Own Master Now" should not be listened to while driving. Nearly ran off the road from hype thinking I was in F-Zero.

I was hoping Wolf would transform in to a body armor/jet pack for Raiden in the final boss battle which would take place in space just above Earth against the space station from Vanquish which transforms in to a massive Unicron-style Metal Gear.

RISING 2 BELIEVE.

It'll be a repeat of the fakeout in MGS2 where you think you're going to play as Raiden for the whole game, but then he disappears pretty early on and George becomes the main character

Raiden vs Gundams

nevermind I read Unicron and Unicorn still I want

Just finished it. This game is awesome. Loved when Bladewolf played the Sam audio recording. I was wondering what they were talking about on that street. Everything from the boss battles to the slicing mechanic was very fresh and enjoyable. I'll be purchasing all the DLC they put out while waiting for MGR2! Great job Platinum!

Rising 2 should wither be a sequel to Raiden's story or a prequel that tells Gray Fox's story. Pre MGS1.

Would you guys be down for a sequel that had more of a MGS/Ninja Gaiden 1 level layout with one interconnected world?
