Eurogamer: Lego City could blow the franchise wide open/save the WiiU [Dont port beg]

Dont get me wrong this looks good.
The first Lego game I actually even care about, but seeing it as something that'll boost WiiU sales alone I just can't see happening.

Maybe I'm just jaded but I really can't imagine any Lego game helping system sales even if its exclusive and ambitious.

Do you guys know if this game will have some sort of online co-op or any other online component?

I really want to use my Wii U on an online game.

Despite all the good things they are saying about the game, if a Super Mario game couldn't pull it out of the dregs, what makes people think a Lego game in a world of a dime-a-dozen Lego games is going to make people go out and buy a Wii U?

Come with me, Dinosaur
Run quick see, what do we have here
Now, do you wanna ride or die
La dadada, la la la la

I ain't a killer but don't push me
Revenge is like the sweetest joy next to getting pussy
Picture paragraphs unloaded, wise words being quoted
Peeped the weakness in the rex game and rode it
Bow down, pray to God hoping that he's listening
Seeing dinos coming for me, to my diamonds, when they glistening
Now pay attention, rest in peace father
I'm a ghost in these dino fields
Dinosaur catch me if I go, let's go deep inside
the solitary mind of a madman who screams in the dark
Evil lurks, like t-rex, see me flee
Activate my hate, let it break, to the flame
Set trip, empty out my clip, never stop to aim
Some say the game is all corrupted, fucked in this shit
Stuck, niggas is lucky if we bust out this shit, plus
mama told me never stop until I bust a nut
Fuck the world if they can't adjust
It's just as well, Dinosaur

I am so custom soundtrackin' this shit somehow. I will mod the game so this can play while I rampage about town on my t-rex.

Not that I think Lego City will do anything special sales wise, but it's never the games we expect that make systems hot. It wasn't Mario that made Wii hot; it was Wii Sports. And I don't think anyone expected a revival of Call of Duty to become the hottest franchise around.

Unfortunetly, it won't.

I think the better option would be for Nintendo to just re-launch the system once they have a lot of games, and third party games should wait too.

I don't mind waiting a little bit longer.

They might as well not release any games at all.

I don't know where people are getting this idea this thing will save the system. We are amidst a huge dryspell for games... it will appease the current Wii-U owners, but not enough to get people to buy a new system for this alone

Well, that's true, but it is not a good business decision. They should wait and release a trifecta of games at the same time...

PS. Who is the girl in your avatar? She is very pretty.

Do we live on the same planet?

Gillian Jacobs, aka "Britta" from the NBC sitcom "Community".

Edit: thanks deviljho

She looks very different with brown hair. Look way prettier.

She's been dyed blonde for the past few years for this role, her natural hair color is brunette.
Though I do love her hairstyles from clips like that pic, during the first season of the show.

But hey yeah...LEGO...W000000!!!

No, because it's based on a world made of plastic toys. It doesn't need next gen graphics to look like Legos.

You wouldn't want a Lego game that is indistinguishable from real life?

Anyways, I tend to suffer from "Grass is Greener on the Other Side" syndrome.

There is a zillion things they could do to make the game look significantly better even with its chosen art style.

Not that I'm advocating for a PS4 version, I'm not, but the long standing myth that stylistic games don't benefit just as much from tech power as the realistic ones or whatever is just one that needs dying.

This, Pikmin and W101 are going to be a great prelude to the holiday lineup. Yes, the console is absolutely bombing, but there is a lot of quality software on the horizon.

No one mention the possibility of more delays. T_T

If they delay Lego City of all games... all hope is lost.

Heading to Nintendo right now!

The buildings could be really shiny.

Speaking of delays, when's the last time Nintendo delayed a dated game?

This game might sell 100,000-200,000 copies. To say it will save the wii-u or even move a substantial number of systems is laughable.

No off screen play, like ZombiU. Game looks pretty good. Nice lighting/shadows, and motion blur. Framerate seemed 30fps, some dips. Atrocious loading times, but it was a dev build so *shrug*.

sounds good then when they fix the load times and framerate.

Clearly the ability to use a gimmicky feature with the Wii U pad is worth not adding off screen play.

WHY.

Are the textures as high resolution as they appear in recent screens or is that pure bullshot?

I mean sarcasm can often be an effective way of getting a point across, but it's simply not right here. One need only look at the vast improvement stylistic games have received in every gen previous; or how far stylistic games are from the stylistic heights of other mediums. A simple way of looking at it is if people think game realisms goal is to be as 'photorealistic' as possible as the ultimate goal, then the possible combination of stylistic games height should be to match the visual splendor of, say, a real cartoon or CG movie (such as they are, to prove my point, there is not even a single stylistic game that even comes in the same fucking universe as any Pixar film or virtually any other cartoon of choice, and not a one of them have a realistic style or can be defined by a ridiculous thought like BUMP MAPPING LOL)

And then once we get to this obvious point, the only question is why anyone would think stylistic games deserve less power than any other genre.

People who say it can't look significantly better on stronger hardware simply don't know what they're talking about. But that's fine. A lot of people have no eye for 3D artistry and rendering technology.

Can you give me an example?

Nice to see when effort is pumped into a game.

Nearly time to jump on the Wii U train for me.

Dat diminishing returns. O.o
