One month from today: BioShock Infinite

Even though I have never completed the first one, I am somewhat stoked for the release of Infinite. The trailers captured my attention and I love the whole 'city in the sky' theme, great art direction and beautifully animated Elizabeth. The deal at GMG right now seems pretty good, but I'm kind of unsure whether I should get it straight away, as my backlog is already quite big...

Been watching some footage the past couple of days and have started to warm up to this game again. It's really got me curious and I am thinking that it may be one of the rare cases where a game comes out of development hell for the better. I may pre-order it on PSN.

I'm wanting to get this on PC and would be running it on my iMac via Bootcamp. How do these specs hold up?

I have a imac too I was thinking of getting it for it but I don't know I don't play a lot of pc games. My specs are:

i5 quad core 2.5 GHZ
12 GB DDR3 RAM
512MB Radeon HD 6750M

I don't know how this will run as much as I know about computers and stuff or if its better to get on 360 or PS3.

Also that new IGN gameplay OMG!!!!!

That's not what I was asking...Is this deal available up until release or will they stop offering it soon?

I'm hoping
1. No excessive, unskippable first person cutscenes. When I replay the game, I don't want to watch "heartfelt" scenes of Elizabeth over and over again.

2. No bullet sponge enemies. If you didn't have Anti-personnel ammo in BioShock, you had to use the wrench. Bullets, explosives, sustained flamethrower, barely anything. Pull out your wrench, have some good perks on, and you're the terror of the ocean.

3. No GFWL or 12 fps physics bullshit.

Well it seems, instead of the wrench you get
to use your Skyhook as a melee weapon. In the recent 38 minute interview on GS, you can see Booker smash someone in the face with it a couple times and then literally grind the blades into the side of their head. It was fucking glorious.

Hopefully Schyman's soundtrack for Infinite is closer to his work on Bioshock 2 than the original. If Bioshock 2 had one thing over the first game it was the soundtrack.

the graphic settings for bioshock 1 on pc, really illustrate how far pc gaming has come in the last five years....

Still a beautiful game. It was really 'holy shit' beautiful at the time, especially for a multiplatform, but it still looks great on max settings; better than lots of today's non-AAA titles.

I find it astonishing that I still hear the sound clip in my head every time I read "Circus of Values".

Fucking hell dude, the jingle was just playing in my head when I begun reading your post. Iconic stuff.

Sorry, I must disagree.

So what exactly is Elizabeth's role in the story? Love interest? Morality pet?

None of us really know for sure. Have you watched the second Modern Day Icarus docu teaser? They kind of hint at her being extremely important and crucial to Columbia. Hence, why she is constantly protected/trapped by the Songbird.

Ah, so she's a MacGuffin Girl. Interesting.

I'll be pleased as long as she isn't a shallow love interest. Ideally not a love interest at all.

It doesn't appear to be that way. Especially from this:

Elizabeth: "Booker, are you afraid of God"?"

Booker: "No. But I'm afraid of you."

The theme surrounding Elizabeth that I'm most looking forward to seeing explored is her Stockholm Syndrome towards the Songbird (don't worry, this is hardly spoiler material). She desires to escape from it desperately, but apparently if you try and harm the Songbird, it'll influence your relationship with her negatively. I'm wondering if Irrational will approach it from a position where Elizabeth is entirely aware that she is under the infuence of the syndrome (seeing as she has read a lot in her captivity and has an interest in more complex subjects like Quantum theory, so she must have learned about it in some fashion), and then explore what her attitude towards it is.

Quite an interesting predicament for the player to be in.

Dude I didn't know that. You've totally ruined the game for me.

=P sounds awesome!

All the parts where you're just walking in Columbia and exploring the world look great. The combat we've seen so far though looks rough. Hopefully it lives up to its huge potential.

I suggest you check out that link, fast forward to the combat scene and tell us what you think looks "rough" to you.

I watched the video recently. I believe the combat part was pretty much the same as the VGA reveal. It just doesn't look as awesome as the other parts they showed in that video. There's too much UI, enemy health bars and the shooting doesn't look super great. I'm still excited though.

For one, you can turn off enemy health meters. The game will be highly customizable to how you want to play.
