Devil Survivor 2 Break Record (3DS) announced

So is it bad that I:

1. Bought Devil Survivor and never played it
2. Bought Overclocked and eventually played it for 6-7 hours before it getting lost in the shuffle
3. Bought Devil Survivor 2 and never played it
4. Will buy this game

I did/am doing the exact same thing.

You are both terrible people. :(

The announcement from the beginning was "new Devil Survivor 2 game project." Unless Devil Survivor 3 would be called Devil Survivor 2 3, then your expectations were out of line!

Oh hah, I never even saw that. :o

Only heard about the anime.

Somewhere in between SH, EO4, and Pokemon Black/2 and X/Y I'm going to have to find time to finish overclocked.

Stop taking all my money and time, handheld jrpgs.

It's pretty much the same for me. Though I did play a little bit of the original Devil Survivor.

If you guys haven't played the original, you simply owe to yourself to play this. Devil Survivor 2 was absolutely fantastic.

Assuming SMTIV releases here in North America on October, then this should be out around February 2014, right?

Long ass wait, but I think it will be worth it.

Hahahahahahahaha. I wouldn't count on it. We'll be lucky if SMT4 is released this year. :P

How substantial was Overclocked, anyway? Never ended up picking it up because I already owned/beat (well, got one ending at least) the DS version, but I've always been curious. Mostly talking the extra days. Trying to figure out now if it'd be worth hunting down/paying for even though I own the original, and trying to gauge how sad I should be that I had just picked up the DS version of this game around Black Friday (still have yet to even play it!)

I have Overclocked and DS2 sitting unplayed in my collection, haha.

I just want to "start" with Soul Hackers for some reason. Different sub-series and all, but I want it to be my first SMT game.

Isn't there like a 6 month delay between Megaten games?
-------------

I'm also very looking forward to the anime. Looks great:

Sweet. More Megaten goodness for the 3DS.

And I'm all for this team getting more practice, since they're likely the ones making SMT x FE.

Oh sure, I've already beaten the first Devil Survivor 2 for DS several times, and clocked in 100~ hours to get all the endings.

But sure, I'll get this game too when it comes out. Also, Io >>>*

According to the people who were at the event and saw the trailer, it seems the characters in the event scenes are in 3D now. It doesn't seem like there's a clear confirmation, and there was no gameplay footage at all, just character scenes. It'll be interesting if they've indeed gone full 3D and done a full remake instead of a port.

This will probably release in NA this year. I wouldn't be surprised if the release date is somewhat close to the JP release.

My guess is that SMT IV will be Q4 at the earliest...probably Q1 2014.

3D models. How can anyone tell 3D effects from a non-3D trailer at a screening event? :P

That's what I was wondering, lol.

Great if true. I love how Atlus is investing a lot in this world with the Anime and this game. I think the lore in Devil Survivor 2 has tons of potential.

I'm completely fine with that. Wallet needs a break.

Never played the first one, are the stories exclusive to each other like persona?

2013 year of the 3DS x), I hope for a 6 month wait for us NA folks

Ahahahaha I made a joke about it using 3D models and welp here we are!

Well, yes, of course it does. They're still making Evangelion stuff over a decade later, after all.

Very nice

Yeah, I'd totally be ok if this made it over here this year instead of IV. I think Atlus can get a lot of people interested in this series if the anime is also good, which looks very promising.

Yeah, different stories. Devil Survivor 2 takes place in a different world (although similar setting) as DS1.

Same. Why would anyone want a new game when they can have the same game from two years ago rehashed through two separate vehicles?

If the 3D models thing is real, the presentation of this could be like Fire Emblem Awakening, and it would be amazing.

2D during the maps, and switch to 3D when going into battles.

OC was quick launch window game and left a lot of people disappointed, I don't think Atlus would follow that route again.

The anime is next season right? I wonder if I should play DS2 now in time to watch it, or wait for the remake and not watch the Anime until I give up on the game.

I hope they even bother to bring it out to NA, considering Overclocked's sales.

I think this game would sell better due to a higher userbase plus the fact that people probably skipped out on DS2 because it came out late for DS.

I hope it has 3D demons. Then we can get the final bit of SMT4 outrage out of the way already.

Would be funny but I can't imagine them not reusing the animated sprites from SMT IV now that they have 400+ to choose from. They skipped out on animated sprites for regular DS2 even after Strange Journey but I don't see that happening now.

Apparently there's been a mistype; the game is called "Break Record", and not "Break Code". Suzuhito Yasuda (character designer for the games) corrected it on Twitter.

I hope the 3D models are just movie scenes; I love Yasuda's designs, and Atlus' modelling team isn't anything to write home about.

It really depends. Did you saw the Catherine models? Of course, I'm talking 3DS vs PS360 so the comparative isn't totally fair

Also, excited for this, even if I already finished the game

Good God. How do you plan for a big reveal to core fans of the franchise and fuck up the name? Did the trailer not have a proper logo? This is fucking hilarious. I'm just going to leave the name as it is until they announce it properly in Famitsu, and we can have another thread. It'll be funnier that way. :P

I enjoyed DS2, but I'm not sure if I want to replay it. The story's not as compelling as the first and I only find one ending appealing enough to pursue
Anguished One
. Might give it a shot, but I already have the DS version so I don't know if I'll bother. Depends on the depth of the extra content.

Never got to playing Catherine, but I'd be surprised if the modelling team who worked on that weren't working on P5. I just can't get the Digimon Digitize game out of my head (different developer, but the same character designer; the models just don't capture his style). If they can get the models looking near exact to the art when static I'll love them, but if not it'll just disappoint.

Seems likely that the original Tweeter just missed out the "re", I'd guess. The original tweeter corrected their mistake too.

I just thought about the VA's for the anime again, and I'll really need to get used to it. I imagined Yamato as slightly feminine, say Romi Paku, but he has one of the manliest voices I know in the anime (and likely the game). I know, it's probably just all that Yamato x MC fanart out there, but still.
